Rigger Chain - A chain with a hook on one end and a weight on the other. the orgyn can swing the hook as a bladed melee weapon with its special attack be a long range “poke” with the weighted end. perhaps other marks that have another hook for pulling non-ogryn/monster enemies and another that is a heavy overhead slam that can knockdown crowds.
Brute Shield and Scissor - A bladed punching weapon and an energy buckler. the scissor is bladed weapon for dealing damage to a single target and the brute shield can block like the slabshield but its special ability is like the Devils Claw blade parry but instead of a strike back instead the energy shield knocks enemies down in front of the ogryn like if they were hit by the power maul charged up. would be a great dueling weapon against more dangerous enemies like Ragers, other ogryns and maulers, especially when in groups.
Ranged weapons:
Brute Slugger - An Ogryn sized hand cannon so to speak. has three versions each with a different special attack. one is the upper cut like the chopper, another is the slap like the bully club and the other is a bayonet stab like the ripper gun. just felt the ogryn could use a quick swap sidearm weapon to their arsenal.
Multi-laser - While i don’t think it will stick, i figured why not a suggest a multi-laser that acts like a minigun style weapon, needing to spin up and has an overheat as it fires.
Ability Tweaks:
personal opinion but the loyal protector baseline ability needs to do more than just taunt. what about adding bonus toughness for each enemy taunted/the quality of enemies taunted? what about lowering their damage output? just taunting enemies seems lackluster no matter how useful it can be. while their are upgrades to the ability, the baseline ability is just so lackluster and unappealing to me.
There might even be precedent on that one, as Ogryn can have Flails, and not so long ago Necromunda got a new Ogryn miniature who is holding a hook in one hand
kind of my idea. i was thinking more of a crude rigging chain with the pulley on one end and the hook on the other. i also want more bladed weapons for the Ogyrn as all but one weapon is blunt, thus why i was leaning to the hook side of things.
Made me think of it with the hook part, otherwise ye, if GW permit FS to use some Ogre Kingdom we could see quite a few more bladed weapons
1handed and 2handed Swords
I just hope they lean more into the half-human half-ogre fantasy than into making them space marines or kratos from god of war. So far they’ve been quite good about it though. Every game has a berserker/warrior archetype, but very very few games let you play as an Ogre. It’s way cool
In that sense, I’ll take any sort of club, tool or brick over any sort of axe or sword, any day. The more scuffed the better. The best idea I’ve seen personally beyond the obvious is similar to what OP also suggested, just a big iron chain. No flail or spike at the end, just the chain
I love this idea , or a chain with a piece of concrete still or anchoring eye/ link attached where it was ripped off (like crusher’s weapon), and maybe even ogryn’s holding it the wrong way and using the concrete chunk as a pommel instead of a flail head.
Ooh ooh ooh, or flipping the chain ends depending on (special) attack.
For me, give me a wrench, a really big wrench. (I don’t mind a Skin to make it easy for FS) This weapon profile could be a blunt version of the 1 hand pick-axe.
And instead of a chain weapon (Chainsword-esque I mean), Ogryn could use a huge industrial circular saw that could use the same rev-up mechanic as human chain weapons.
This was the idea for one of the Rigger Chain weapon ends. one was the pulley(the poke), another was a flail of hooks(grabber) and the last was a chunk of concrete(overhead smash)
I had the idea of using the weapons that Genestealer cults have like the industrial saw, drill and cutters too but i was worried we have simialr weapons in the game already.
A javelin would be very cool. Since big man can throw things very well (rock) maybe he can throw a sharpened pipe too. Special attack could be a melee jab. Kind of like how the grenadier gauntlet works. Except, way more primal.
Let me pin a rager to a wall. Please.
Drawbacks: slow travel time like rock,
not much ammo (10-15, +3 from small ammo, +7-8 from big ammo)
Not very good against groups. But high cleave into soft elite/specialist targets. Line em up.
And an arcing pattern that limits range.
Strengths: haha 25kg pipe go through heretic like butter. And it should have high stagger on carapace. Poke for high damage to carapace.
And I feel like it should have a slow regen like rock. Since the ammo pool is so low already. It shouldn’t feel bad to throw one.
