Why assail is bad and horrible to play with

because of its targeting method it almost always targets things that are being meleed not the dangerous enemies further away.

so it ends up denying the melee the needed sustain while leaving you open to long range enemy damage.

I love Assail because I used it for hord, and I build my other weps for specials and elites. But since the update, they decreased the regen speed by quite a lot. I kinda hate it but it’s still usable. Initially, I suggested they reduce the amo from 10 to maybe 6-7 instead of decreasing regen speed. That would be much nicer.

Aimed Assail needs a massive buff, whilst Assail as a whole needs to probably get brought down to, like, 6 shards instead of the current 10. I used to think Assail is good as is, then I played as my Zealot with multiple Assail Psykers in my party and truly realized how broken it was.

Personally, I think it’s in an ok place right now.
I’d prefer if Empowered Psionics was changed to fire 2 shards at once, instead of +50% dmg, and there’s a lot of tiny tweaks they could still do (+ first target dmg or rending on aimed, slightly more cleave against unarmoured and infested and maybe less dmg vs. infested on unaimed, and maybe a node that allows you to recharge a bit faster on reload at the cost of reducing the peril you vent),
but overall, it works as a ‘Grenade’ for Psyker, better than Brain Burst: You pull it out, you thin out a horde wave or target a long distance special, and then you usually switch to another weapon.
And you can still use it consistently, if maybe not quite continuously.
Changing the targeting to not annoy teammates is obviously always welcome on anything where it applies.

yeah its fun to use, im talking about the pita it is to be in a group with

Assail and Smite both need to be reworked imo, they’re both very brainless low effort abilities.
