In the patch nodes it says auto aimed damage gets reduced from 250 to 200. What it needs is additional longer recharge time to reduce spamming capability and to encourage players to use the buffed aimed function.
If a psyker can easily run through a level on damnation only using assail with 250 damage, they will still spam around with 200 damage and do fine. It should be good to use but be on cooldown longer so it is a situational ability, like blitz abilities are supposed to.
How about we wait for the update and see if the upcoming change is arleady enough?
Even this nerf was not needed. No more nerfs are needed either. Those who spam assail, are bad players, constantly die and are consistently the worst performing ones.

Players just think new tools are better, cuz they are just new.
When they return back to vanilla tools they will find out that brainburst is still the best.
That or halve the total ammo they have from 10 to 5.
Assail’s biggest flaw is that it is very conspicuous, and so people knew (or thought they knew) what to blame when they saw the kill feed light up, or their target die in front of them. Really it is the combo with perilous combustion that makes it possible to take out squads of mixed elites and all chaff. Both have been nerfed now, but I’m fairly sure if assail didn’t have such an obvious visual then no one would have really complained that Psykers were over performing, because even still most of them really are not.
We needed 10 months to see if pinning fire was too good. I think there’s no unhealthy amount of skepticism when dealing with this company.
