What the heck happened here?

How did this travesty happen? Compared to Darktide this game is complete trash from a gameplay perspective! I get that this game came out before darktide but with how long it’s been out there is no excuse for lacking these features and the fact they weren’t added in retroactively.

1 no sprint, crouch or slide key or option period.

  1. dodge is unbelievably underpowered and short.

  2. no audio cues from attacks coming from behind you or any audio cues at all like in darktide so if it comes from behind well F*** you.

4 healing is far too limited and way to spread out there is NEVER enough for the party.

  1. along with this barely existent healing there are enemies that can cause bleed damage or if you get downed AT ALL it applies it to you and the only way to get rid of it is a potion or medpack but since those are rare once you go down you’re gonna keep going down even if you don’t get killed by an enemy because you’re bleeding out as soon as you’re revived and you only get half of your health back with that bleed effect tagged on.

these sound like small things but these break the entire game and ruin everything about it. Art? Great! level design? Great! weapons and their variety? Great! voice acting? Great everything about this game is great except the gameplay which completely sucks and is a massive disappointment coming here from darktide. If there is one thing darktide has taught me it’s that positioning maneuverability and speed are 100% required to survive in these types of games but this game gives you 0 of the tools needed to do that. Imagine how much harder darktide would be if it had Fallout 4’s outdated combat and this is what they did here and even skyrim had a sprint button! how? How were these things left out and this game deemed good enough to sell? HOW?

As someone with 1800+ hours in Vermintide 2, imo the gameplay is pretty good

Vermintide 2 has great gameplay. It lacks in other things but definitely not in combat.

Lets just say Darktide is a more forgiving experience.

Cause it’s not the same type of combat

Depend on the weapons, and block/push are stronger in both game

You have Thp, it’s stronger than toughness

Some things doesn’t even make sense, or not true.
V2 is fatshark’s gameplay foundation, if you can’t handle absence of Darktide’s additions,
you don’t understand the formula

The games may appear mostly the same at a glance but they are quite different.

  1. If you like higher movespeed, there are builds&careers that move faster, at times quite a lot so, than many others but yes, its more limited by default. Our characters be conserving stamina.

  2. Dodge-mobility is highly based on the weapon in question, and to some extent, on the career using it. The Elf, especially the Handmaiden career, typically has more dodges&better dodge distance at the expense of stagger, cleave and durability.

The opposite end of this spectrum is Kruber, typically slow, heavy and good at wide strong swings.

  1. No audio ques from behind is…kind of a bug, i can only suggest fighting with your back to a wall or some other such object when possible. Positioning is important.

  2. Healing is basically a skill issue most of the time, a large part of the game for melee is both the skill to avoid damage and the ability to generate “white health” or “temporary health” by doing something determined by your careers lvl 5 row. Like killing or staggering enemies among others. A proficient fighter basically generates more of this health than the enemies can deal to him under ordinary circumstances.

  3. Getting downed means you enter a “bleeding out” state where your THP decays and you die if you take a second hit that would down you. The way to cure this is either healing yourself with a medkit/healing pot or healing someone else with a medkit and then go generate enough THP to offset the decay.

This is such a baffling thread, have TC ever played Vermintide before?

  1. Because these moves never existed, they were created on Dark Tide’s release. Do you see people complaining about Vermintide 1’s lack of Career skills?

  2. How so? It’s extremely powerful and more than gets the job done against all enemies.

  3. There is audio cues, you’re not paying attention or you were playing with sound off

  4. Objectively false, even in Cataclysm you’re given plenty enough healing. Just stop getting hit so often and generate some THP.

  5. Problem with that? That’s your punishment for getting downed and makes it so you have to heal yourself. Without a bleed out there’s barely any threat to getting downed.

  1. Even if they never existed here originally that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have been added retroactively darktide has been out some time and mobility in melee in this games formula is life or death based on your speed dex and positioning and if you don’t have sprint or adequate dodge melee is gonna get you killed fast. bare minimum give me a sprint key.

  2. looking over the comments i stand corrected on dodge I didn’t think it was linked to weapons like in darktide because the ui doesn’t give you any indicators of it being a factor so I thought this was one of the features that was different but stand corrected.

  3. if there are audio cues I’m not hearing them i mean i hear the knife guys gunners and flamers but for fodder I never ever hear anything at all and in darktide that feature is one of the only things keeping you alive in hoards. I turned off music and everything and my audio works fine and I’m hearing nothing the only thing I can think of is either it’s bugged for me or the sound is so quiet I’d need headphones if its there at all for fodder.

  4. I still disagree on this at least with how punishing bleed damage is if it took like a 1/4 or even as much as 1/2 your health id be fine with it but between scarcity of healing and the fact that it kills all but 1 point of you’re health bar the moment you get it you’re screwed. I have plenty of times where another player nabbed healing I was desperate for and died as a result when there isn’t enough to go around for the team and some stretches seem to be well prepared on a lvl by lvl basis but a lot of these lvls are so scarce with healing it’s maddening.

  5. it would be easy as heck to remedy this just take a massive chunk of health an apply corruption like with grims each chunk till death on your last life. The whole reason I keep bring up dark tide is because there are so many quality-of-life improvements in the gameplay that aren’t here and these could easily be added retroactively. The systems in darktide are harsh but fair which is why I like the game so damn much for every 10 times I die I typically only feel like 1 out of those ten on average was unfair. failure in darktide is almost always you’re own fault but this kinda feels like there are limitations on the player for no reason that hurt the quality of the gameplay.

  1. I’ve noticed some are faster than others but I still want a sprint even if it’s a limited boost and if nothing else it would make getting around the map less tedious between hoard attacks.

  2. I didn’t realize this until looking at it in game after you mentioned it so I stand corrected. The differences are subtle depending on the weapon and the ui didn’t indicate this was a feature of any of the weapons, so I assumed it was another thing darktide had that this game didn’t.

3,4 and kinda 5. then it must be a bug I’ve been actively trying to listen for trigger noises and I’m not hearing them I even turned off music I hear the special units with like the flamer and sneaky knife boi but no warning sounds from fodder or gunners until after they’re already dumping fire. also the hook guys and the fat wizards never have noise either at least that I can hear and part of what I find keeps causing me problems with bleed is normally I can do ok even at my worst in melee I might still die fairly from that point but when I run out of health and get 1 shot because I ran out of people to kill at all in the stretch between fights that feels unfair to me. I’ve got nothing wrong with bleed damage but I mean you’re entire health bar except 1 hp feels excessive.

other than this stuff I love the game. level design, art, the feel of the weapons, voice acting and graphics are all fantastic and even though I may sound bitchy I think these are important issues but not ones bad enough to ruin the game entirely, but they are a source of immense frustration at times when you get a death that felt unavoidable.

  1. I’m aware its a different type of content but this is a feature I think belongs in both and I think it would empower the player with more tools to use their skill the motion in melee combat of darktide could flow even better in this game since there is a heavier emphasis on melee I use sprint crouch and slide a ton in my melee flow in darktide and it would be just as applicable here

  2. as said in the other to replies I indeed missed this the ui on my equipment never mentioned anything about move speed or dodge penalties so I didn’t know it was a passive effect and how subtle but significant it was. I assumed it was another feature in darktide that wasn’t here in vermin.

  3. I would agree with you if it were not for how punishing bleed damage is. if bleed was brought you down to like 1/2 or even 1/4 of you’re hp I’d be fine with it but 99% of you’re hp feels unfair especially when you die because you run out of health not due to taking hits but instead you ran out of people to kill. That makes it feel unfair with the amount of hp potions factored in I’m not against bleed but I feel like it either needs a small nerf or we need a few more potions a mission part of the problem here also is not all your team mates are reliable and there are some who will hoard resources including healing to the detriment of the team as a whole.

Vermintide 2 is just different than Darktide. It’s like comparing an apple to a pear. Quite similar, but different.

For me, Vermintide 2 is more difficult, but also less random and more… predictable. I can assure you, majority of bad situations can be countered or avoided altogether with experience, the resulting skill and the tools your character provides you.

The disablers are more punishing but also more predictable (except assasins, where only predictability is that they are unpredictable). Give yourself some time, and you will be able to dodge a leech without even turning to see him or dispatch a hook rat with a melee weapon during the normal flow of the combat in the horde.

Vermintide 2 is quite specific and an aquired taste, if you are struggling, try to watch some decent gamplay videos on YT, there is plenty of good guides in there, solo runs, whatsover. If you consider it to not worth your time, then it is also fine, I also dropped few games that just didn’t click.

While I also like some QoL features (or simply stuff that makes the game easier, period) from Darktide, they would dramatically alter the Vermintide 2 formula and would just turn it into fully different game.

It’s weird to me to say dodging is underpowered in VT2. Unlike DT it doesn’t pause stamina regen which means you can combine dodging and pushing WAY more.

Also unlike DT stam regen property on trinket BOTH increases stam regen speed AND reduces delay before regen starts. BCR also feels more powerful so it’s quite easy to make stamina management orders of magnitude more forgiving than DT.

Sprinting and sliding have no place in this game, they would make it way too trivial to avoid enemies altogether when you want to, and you can already kite very effectively on decent mobility weapons with just a little terrain use. That’s part of the skill curve. It’s fun.

THP in this game is also insanely strong on any frontliner class which makes enemy damage a lot more forgiving than you’re making out. If you’re struggling with burst damage barkskin exists and is quite popular to defend against it.

This really all reads as someone who has made no effort to understand the mechanics of the game complaining it’s not identical to DT. There’s a lot of crossover but it’s not entirely the same skill set or approach to encounters. Both have their merits, VT2 feels a bit more methodical and calculated which is its own fun. Both games give you quite a lot of tools to approach encounters, you’ll get a feel for it with time.

An understandable view, mobility is fun.

One thing Vt2 definitely is bad at is relaying information, a mod like “armory” from steam workshops can help. Some people have also uploaded most of it up online to both these forums and reddit if you google “vt2 armory” or such.

Specials like flamer, assassin, stormer and leech not making any noise at all? Not even when they spawn? This is definitely a bug and you can make a report about it. I thought you only meant that some random enemy hit you from behind, this trigger is notoriously unreliable.

As for bleeding out from lack of enemies…ehm, well, keep moving up in difficulties, enemies get more abundant. And remember that there are people out solo’ing cataclysm 1,2&3 + other crazy ass mods. There is a lot one can do up to that point!

I’ve finally started hearing them it seems to depend on luck of the draw when I boot the game up but its working much better I’m finally getting the chuck chuck noises from the hook boys and now that I know what I’m looking for I can confirm it seems the issue with some of the specials is some kind of bug my guess is its a server issue or something since I’ve learned fatshark games love to crash

also suddenly I’m finding all the healing I need instead of constantly dying to bleed playing the same maps again I’m pretty sure in hindsight I had some greedy players with me who were health hogs given the difference I’m seeing in volume its the only thing that makes sense now.

There are also audio cues of hits which are coming from minions you dont see on the display. It is a “swoosh” sound.

I’ve been listening but I’m not hearing them I think I’m having bugs but I’m not sure I’ll keep listening closer but I’ve been trying to figure this out for days now and I don’t know what’s up with it. Players keep saying its there but I keep not hearing it and I never have this problem on darktide just hear so unless theres a bug Idk what’s going on. I mean my hearing isn’t great but its good enough to play games

Its a really common and big problem for many that the backstab sound que doesnt work, i i think i saw a post on the vt2 reddit about it just earlier too. I’ve had it occassionally for years now i think, at times more or less.
