Regular missions on legend difficulty or below.
When I plan for a session of Vermintide I usuall plan for a map to be about 30 min in length if its a success. So that’s what I’ve come to expect and I think its about the right length.
Several of Vermintide 2’s maps are too long for their own good, especially the newer ones and some of the DLC. But length alone is not the issue. Skittergate is also very long but it is, imho one of the best maps of the game. Why? Because the reward scales with the length, and it is pretty much guaranteed that you get an emperor’s whatever out of it even if you miss a book or two. The finale is also hard but not outright unfair BS. The problem is with maps that are not just very long, but also don’t give nearly enough loot dies to justify it, and have finales that wipe 90% of PUG teams, leaving people empty-handed after a prolonged and unfun session, or with a generals-garbage at best. Tower of Treachery, Trail of Treachery, Kaza-kaz -whatever Kazakhstan, Mission of Mercy, are the worst offenders here. Honorable mentions to Enchanter’s Lair, which actually does give good rewards, but the final boss is a guaranteed wipe without a coordinated and build-optimized team, and to Parting of the Waves, which is not particularly hard, but excruciatingly long, poorly rewarded, and plagued with horrid FPS-consuming lack of optimization, and Grudge Served Cold, which although long and poorly rewarded, at least does the courtesty of wiping most teams with the mid-event rather than the final one.
Great and interesting poll.
I think about this many times.
I agree with everything you said. I just want to say that I really like “Grudge Served Cold”, “Mission of Mercy”, “Khazukan Kazakit-ha” and “Trail of Treachery” even though they are longer and have no special reward simply because they are very well done, beautiful and fun.
It depends on the mission stakes, I’m fine with Skittergate being as long as it is for instance. And I wish Into The Nest was WAY more densely packed with Skaven.
But missions like Blood in Darkness overstayed it’s welcome a bit
For the vet V2 players, we have reds of all our favorite, Its interesting to see that reward is a factor for maps,
I love Skittergate because of the change of scenery, it goes from skaven-cave to ice shores.
As far as ideal length, this is very interesting. V2 doesn’t display mission time at End of match, but Darktide is typically 20-40 mins (depending on diff). I think the main reason V2 feels faster is the simple efficiency of the community, we own rats!
Should take into account that a mission that’s too short ends up unfun and uneventful… case in point the very short side missions of V1 that lacks lore and character interactions
I think we should have 2 type of missions:
25-30 min is what i would expect typical cata run to take and where i do think the sweet spot should sit at.
Interesting comment.
I agree. Specially because I like when Cata games have that length time.
