What is Darktide missing?

Chaos Wastes analogue would be cool. I tried Mortis Trials finally recently and no offense, but I find the modifiers you get to be largely a little uninspired and lacking in good options for every build on different classes. It also gets old playing the same map fast. I enjoyed chain reaction brain burst, some of the zealot’s FotF options, and shocking scum crates were alright. There’s probably a few others that are cool, but by and large I found Chaos Wastes superior in terms of the crazy builds you get going, as well as the maps. Honestly, FS did a great job on CW.

Mortis wasn’t meant to be a CW, buy rather FoW

Trying to think of something original or that hasn’t been said and not getting very far.

I wish there was more to do and places to go on the Morningstar honestly. A mini game? I miss VT2’s castle shenanigans with teammates.

Even more penances and penance rewards would be cool. I finally maxed mine out a month ago. A little commisary love for the scum and arb would also be nice.

Some mission ideas: Missions with friendly npcs that fight could be good (help out the hive scum, or relieve some other defenders). Missions with stationary, operable defenses and/or vehicles could be neat. Missions in other locations (space, different habitats in the hive, or outside).

A new boss and a new enemy faction would be great.

I also really want new psyker staves.

New weapon types are always nice in general. As are new classes. Gotta say, I’m really stoked they released two in a row so recently. Excited to see what they do next. Tech priest would be legit. Another abhuman, rogue trader or friendly xenos would be cool because of the weapon and aesthetic variety, but not sure if it would work lore-wise (I’m sort of a casual 40k lore enjoyer). My zealot and arb really don’t seem to get along with xenos.

An option to just choose the stats on a weapon you buy from Brunts would be nice, instead of spam buying them. Also kind of wish I could just spend the materials to level mastery without needing to buy a ton of weapons, and spam upgrade them then sacrifice. It’s a bit tedious. Especially because I’ve done it for almost every weapon in the game at this point, like I’m tired boss, but it would help others and myself when new classes come out.

Beating a dead horse, but I still wish the shop wouldn’t rotate. My one man boycott since the beta remains strong, and will likely endure further years of self-deprivation if necessary. It’s why I also don’t get the premium versions of DLC classes. I’m in too deep at this point to go back on it.

Scriptures and grims could use some mechanics added to them. A little drop of aquilas for grims perhaps, and maybe psykers get a small buff of some kind from them. And scriptures buff the zealots a little?

Also maybe my PC is getting oldge, but it does take a while to load the game sometimes. Any sort of optimization there would be nice. 8700k/7900xt are my main specs.

Optimization a 100%

Game was clearly not built for Havoc, but Havoc does exist so we need optimizations rn

i’d rather have mods and not a le epic pvp mode that would be instantly abandoned after siphoning all relevant rewards by most of the community

Honestly I feel like a few things could be done to make the game feel a bit more finished to modern players and also keep people around.

  • A proper campaign
  • More level variety
  • Various social improvements (Went into that in this section of a post recently. But I really think the games poor social functions make it still feel like a beta especially compared to other recent hoard shooters)
  • PvP mode
  • Weapon customization (At least scopes on guns, this is like bare minimum for modern shooters)
  • A way to earn premium currency (Maybe havoc rewards)

I dont think all of these are realistic to expect in the short term but I do feel like having all of these would make the game feel more finished, or at least at the same level of “finished” as vermintide 2. This game is still in its vermintide 1 era. In terms of level variety, campaign, and social elements anyways.

Also having a way to slowly earn premium currency would be a good way to keep people engaged with the game long term. At least for those who aren’t taken by just the good gameplay.

i said somewhere that leveling a new character now is easy compared to the dark ages when we had wallets for each character, and blessings were at the mercy of RNG.

still, i would have liked if i could just skip leveling my arby and my scum by buying a premium-plus pack with the character already at 30 and full mastery so i could spare me the clicktide.

so what was the easiest way to level quickly? speeding through maps at low difficulty with bots, before some newbies could get in and think i want to actually play with them

Most obvious things was already mentioned. So i will go with interesting perks and blessings.

If only weapon types had unique perks like +aoe +less perill +active vent speed +passive vent speed for staves, as an example.

And like +less recoil +less sway +swap speed +less spread in ads +less spread with hip fire fore guns.

Something that would make you scratch your head than just slap vs carapace/flak.

The same thing with blessings. Deflector is the best designed blessing, imo. It’s change your playstyle without bringing stupid damage numbers.

Curios don’t have proper blessings.

Leveling is boring as hell. Lower difficulties barely have any enemies, instead of being a power fantasy where enemies die easily, deal poor damage and med/ammo crates spawn in higher numbers.

No wonder casuals and noobs jump on higher difficulties they can’t handle.

This is an unhealthy graph for the live service game. There is no uptrend. Like maybe it’s ok for FS cause initial money influx with mtx.

But you have instant drops after online spikes. Means people don’t stay.

Look at the SM2 last year chart, you have an uptrend channel with higher lows and higher highs + secondary spikes and less sharp drop angle.

More enemies
More guns
Buffing still underperforming weapons AND class abilities
Standarization of talent trees where you dont need extra points to switch between auras and class abilities
and yeah, more maps

They need to bring back Auric Heresy. I want the the horde density and intensity of higher difficulties (I can do Auric Maelstorm fine on all classes, but don’t want to) without the enemies turning into sponges.

Well these graphs are a little misleading. Darktide is gradually trending up in player count over time. Post launch it was down to about 4k monthly average, now we are at around 6k monthly average. Its pretty common for games like this to have that sort of playercount curve, slowly gaining a consistent playerbase as the game improves over time. The sharp spikes you see at the max chart are more of a artifact of the chart’s scale then a serious indication of poor game health. If you look at lifetime playercount of DRG it has similar spikes

Anyways just to compare DRG and Darktide at similar points in their lifespan and its pretty much the same:

Of course this relies on FS actually consistently improving the game over time. So far they mostly have. Time has yet to tell if FS will continue a solid consistent improvement of the game. I think at this point dropping/slowing/outsourcing development for Vermintide 2 basically needs to be done. We would probably see much more rapid improvements in the game

Yeah you have to zoom to see upward trends i should have cut out the release spike it has a similar look to SM2…

Darktide’s been interesting it actually has higher players spikes on content release but less sustain in the dips after compared to SM2… these spikes also make them harder to compare 1:1 due to y-axis difference

Darktide’s peak player base has been getting close to SM2 level; who I think only maintains higher average due to more consistent content drops and Darktide does despite the content… and then… compared to the launch drought of 2023 getting as low as 2.8k players to today’s 12k

Dang it also forgot to mention age… Space Marine 2 is 2yrs newer it may not compare as well to Darktide as its loops get more stale in 2yrs time? will its numbers be better than Darktides now? Darktide was a terrible launch but now its the rising underdog

Average breakdowns show them much closer as well… really wish it was a toggle in graphs

the old dudes from release era back in charge of balancing and combat design

right now it feels like an open stew pot and every passing by “new cook” has his one off spitting in.

hence the power creep and rainbow mode called havoc

In case with DRG you have those spikes on the whole lifespan scale graph. In DT you have spikes on the small time frame scale like a year. And that’s why i compared it with SM2 on a lower time frame.

Besides the fact DRG was pretty dead last year afaik. DRG example is a game history uptrend, the same with KF2 (when it was actively supported) or PoE

DT last year graph, compare it with SM2 year graph i posted, no secondary retention, the uptrend is barely visible on a 1 year scale.

Yeah, because a lot of people are interested in, but they find no actual new content, no bug fixing, no player agency while anti customer practices are still there.

We can see how crafting change has a proper shape of prolonged players online and overall changed the lower low to stay at ~9-10k, instead of ~3-4k, while class DLC’s don’t keep players interested.

The problem with classes, they don’t create new combat scenarios, unlike enemies and maps. They only serve to solve scenarios.

Here’s a nice side by side 6months, they all look roughly similar while competing for same coop players. All Darktide needs to do to compete/surpase is release more regular updates

For the weekly cycle, More interesting Darktide has some very balanced markets on the daily peaks ( I think its Europe, USA, then Asia) its very balanced hard to see at all compared to DRG & SM2 lacking in 3rd peak market… and SM2 being more popular in the 2nd USA USA USA…I mean SPACE MARINE
