What do you guys hope the next class will be?

with the Arbites coming next month and with it, the new story elements, what do you think the next class will be?

we know that ratlings will never come and thus neither are squats, but beastmen are possible.

there ARE loyal beastmen in 40K AND there are also heretical beastmen who worship khorn. they’re never in the astra militarum anymore since the inquisition thought that they were all chaos corrupted by birth due to them looking more like goat people than people people, but they’re still used as slaves and are sometimes bounty hunters as well, among other things. then again, they could just be a reskin for the zealot with different voices.

another abhuman we could see is the Pelager, who are basically just fish people. i can see them being very cool to have as playable and as great way to expand the game to a more wide range of players.

then there is the felinid, then again, i feel like that would just be a reskin for the veteran, actually, fatshark should add a felinid for 6 dollars that just adds cat people, i would buy that, it’d also give a canon face for them, so that’s an upside.

finally, the goliaths, i don’t really see them as something possibly different from the ogryns, but i feel like the same could be said for the fish.

those were just abhumans, the mechanicus could be the next DLC class, though, i would assume that they’re far off from coming any time soon, so we could also reasonably assume that the next class will actually be a bounty hunter of sorts like from necromunda: hired gun.

one other likely candidate is the combat servitor, having many different attachments such as heavy bolters, heavy flamers, and even power swords and fists. some even have assault cannons as weapons! that’s why i think they’d be a good fit, or at least one to consider.

Not needed. We already know exactly what felinids look like.

Thematically, I don’t really much care. There are so many cool options in the universe and specifically in Dan Abnett’s novels. We could have various Xenos, ex-Hive Gangers, bounty hunters, Sisters of Battle, hell even Nulls could potentially be interesting.

And that’s the thing I’m most interested in: that whatever we get offers unique gameplay.

I believe we received Arbites because GW wanted to promote them.

The same happened at Rogue Trader.

So, most likely our next class will be whatever GW gives for cheap again.

Beastmen could work, but I don’t really think they make much sense to be picked.

Any of the other Abhuman doesn’t have set appearance and GW is zealous and wouldn’t allow a 3rd party to set how they look like (Look at the Femgryn situation for example)

Goliath do have a set appearance, but they’re restricted lorewise to Necromunda.

If we look at the 4-5 current archetypes, we have 5 set organisations:

  • Astra Militarum - Imperial Guard
  • Adeptus Ministorum - The Ecclesiarchy
  • Astra Telepathica
  • Militarum Auxilla (A sub division of the Astra Militarum)
  • Adeptus Arbites

If we look at other such factions, and sort them into “sensible”, too strong or valuable, and not militant:

Not sensible:

  • Adeptus Custodes
  • Officio Assassinorum (Adding to that Officio Sabatorum)
  • Adeptus Astronomica (though having our Psyker learn Astropath’s Voidfrost could be nice for a side branch)
  • Imperial Fleet
  • Adeptus Astartes
  • Rogue Trader

Which mostly leave:

  • Adeptus Mechanicus
→ Tech Priest would be strange, but seeing Arbites we could see something like that, even if just lower levels ones
  • Adepta Sororitas
→ Same manner as the Arbites, being built in a way that is different from the Zealot via Acts of Faith.

I wish to see our 40k Kerillian, elf is so cute

I really believe that GW has not much power. They negotiate their price for the exploitation licence. They could oppose to something I guess…
But I don’t think that they intervene like a lot are thinking…
And I am sure they cannot dictate to a studio what they will work on… they could if it was GW that was making these games. But they are not.

Admech is the most obvious, and the most popular that can be. In fact it’s more obvious to have than arbites, but arbites is less complicated to create.

Basicaly branches

Your classic engeener - servoskull/turrets.

Skitarii - combat oriented.

Either electro priest - another caster, so psyker isn’t the only one. Or biologis as medic/healer/buffer.

It’s almost certainly going to be mechanicus as the next class imo, only reason they did Arbites first is because of the Cyber-mastiff, pet skins sell like hotcakes, and they wanted to be sure the player base would accept a paid class after DT’s rough history.

If you think about this in terms of money (making a new class costs a lot in DT) then they are only going to pick stuff that they know will sell well to recoup the high expense. Mechanicus and Arbites with Cyber-mastiff are the only two that are fitting for the setting and are very likely to make a lot of money.

You can name the mastiff, pet it, customise it, and it walks around on the mourning star with you as literal walking FOMO that all other players are going to see constantly from now on, constantly in their face FOMO. Yeah, they wanted something they could be very confident would make A LOT of money.

So I’d give the probability of the next Class being something Mechanicus around 90%

Also a mechanicus class could be an other “pet” class, with various servitors following you around.

In 2027 GW goes back to its roots, gets silly, the warp gates between Fantasy and 40K finally open, and the U5 come to the Mourningstar.

Hijinks ensue.

Honestly… I think that they have developed the class between the PS5 release and now.
This is really promising for what could happen now for Darktide.

I agree about Mechanicus… but I buy more the “it was easier to create” than the pet story.

Honestly I don’t care anymore. Not excited about the Arbites and if they’re not going with unique species it’s not so interesting to me.

Could be that they can negotiate for it to happen, do have to admit that both games having Arbites at the same is a curious happenstance

What do you mean by unique species ? Like Xenos ? Or Abhuman ?

I’m still holding out hope for the felinid maid café being opened in the hub for buffs before heading out to the mission. Make it happen, Fatshark!

personally, i DO believe that they mean abhuman, they likely know xenos would never be common enough in the service if the inquisition for more than 20 people to have them at a time, even then, they’re very unlikely to all be the same, like, you’re not gonna have 20 kroot, tau, or eldar just runnin around, they’ll be on special missions and all that stuff. so that’s why i believe they mean abhumans.

I don’t think canonically the thousands upon thousands of players are all meant to exist in the game world. Just like how there are thousands of people playing the SM2 campaign but there aren’t thousands of Tituseses running around.

Our characters are pretty close to the inner circle of the war effort, getting direction from the top brass in the warband on every mission. We never see more than ~15-20 other players in the Mourningstar. And all the cutscenes show a pretty tight-knit group.

Although I don’t think there has ever been a definitive answer on this, all signs point to the warband being pretty small.

In light of that, I don’t see why we couldn’t have Xenos working with us.

No class. I’d rather they focused on balance and new content.

i do agree that Xenos working WITH us would be plausible, but not us playing as them. they are just too uncommon in the inquisition to have them be basic boots on the ground suicide troops like we are. kroot, eldar, tau, or any other Xenos race would just be too rare to just send to their deaths in a strike team of four people against hordes of heretics. even if we ARE the small minority who’re in the inquisition, that doesn’t mean we aren’t still expendable, as a matter of fact, part of the reason we’re used is because we are expendable and are treated as such, no matter how liked we are by the inquisition or the NPC’s. Xenos are not expendable for the inquisition, they’re more akin to agents than anything, more than we are anyway.
