Judging by their last Skulls announcement, this is probably going to be a nothingburger. I very much doubt Fatshark has anything actually big in the works.
If it’s something new, I hope it’s not something nobody asked for (it totally will be).
I expect them the nerf a little the DS, and that’s all. Maybe a little buff also. But I cannot vote for “Balance pass”. Because, even if I expect them to nerf DS, I don’t expect them to balance other weapons like the PG, boltgun etc… or buff all too weak weapons.
Based on last year’s Skulls event, they are gonna announce 1 new map/mission, and some new weapons.
Since that’s what the Secrets of Machine God amounted to.
We just got these from it.
-Clandestium Gloriana (The ice map)
-bolt pistol
-double barrel shotgun
-shock mauls
-pickaxes
There’s probably gonna be a new enemy as well, probably.
As a for a new archetype/class? It’s possible, I won’t deny it, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.
I don’t know if I would call it expectation, but my estimation of what we will get is a new class with a cyber mastiff, you ping enemies and it pins them down, your ults are related to the dog etc. Unique weapons include a riot shield probably. Perhaps the long teased melta is class exclusive to them.
I’m mostly basing this being a doggo class on
Fatshark’s marketing department would have to be absolutely unhinged to release such a teaser that is headlining the Skulls trailer and for it to turn out to be something small.
It makes little sense to tease a new chaos enemy this way. Small chance it could be a new enemy hound of some kind, maybe a khorne hound, but if that were the case it would make way more marketing sense to show it attacking soldiers on our side not the cult.
I might think it is gene stealers, but I browsed through the entire Genestealer miniature line and I didn’t see anything that suggests to me something that small and low to the ground and moving that way, and hormagaunts do not come with gene stealer infestations, also if it were a hormagaunt we would see the scythe arms from that first person perspective.
Rogue trader doing a arbites pet class soon and that Rogue Trader and Darktide had a recent crossover event suggesting that the two companies are communicating.
I really don’t see what is huge with this trailer of few seconds that show nothing…
I think you are expecting too much… time will tell. But even if I would love a new archetype I don’t believe in it… and even more for a class that relies on pet.
It was the singular and only game to get new footage shown in the trailer, and just looking back at the Darktide communities reaction to disappointment, no way in hell would I release a teaser like that if I were Fatshark’s marketing department and only had something small. That would be such a bad move marketing wise, and I’d like to think they have some higher level of thought process and awareness going on in their minds.
But yea, could be wrong and they have something small, in which case I’m sure there will be fireworks on thursday lol.
e: also the teaser was pre-rendered not in game, that is quite a bit of extra work for something small, it’s been a very long time since we had something pre-rendered.
I think something significant (class or enemy faction) is very likely. The least I’m honestly expecting is a single new boss enemy.
But what I hope for is for a new class and, since it’d be the absolute best time for it, a rework of the shop and commissary…and an extension of the penance track (which would be fairly strongly implied by a new class imo).
Not following through with some sort of doggo would be like … it’d be like, I dunno, having a 13th century sabre outperform a 40K power hammer.
So:
It could be GW’s marketing department that is unhinged.
I’d estimate that the odds of either FS’s or GW’s marketing department being unhinged is at least 50%.
A further complicating factor is that with GW one should reverse Hanlan’s Razor, and never attribute to stupidity that which is adequately explained by malice.
A FS fan’s version of Pascal’s Wager: Cling to the lowest expectations possible. The rewards of pleasant surprise greatly outweigh the potential pangs of disappointment.
NB: Sometimes I fear that this forum’s culture of cynicism is insufficient. But threads like this one absolutely fill me with bright-glowing hope.
I was looking for the “nothing” or “disappointment” options for “what do you expect”. I have zero expectations for Fatshark these days. If they can’t honor 2.5 year old promises over new game modes no one wants, why should we expect anything this time?
