Definitely no new classes for now. At least one new ranged and melee weapon for each base class.
New maps—it doesn’t necessarily have to be a new biome, but that would be nice.
And a new enemy faction. There’s a good selection that FS could draw from, along with new bosses.
I’d really love to have a Plague Marine as a Captain boss.
Better tooltips. Like being able to see all weapon and character stats.
More significant events that might have a bigger impact on the maps and offer better rewards.
Oh, just so many things…
Bug fixes shouldn’t even be on this list, because that’s just part of the deal, actually…
I’ve een looking for a roadmap for the game and instead came accross this forum and thought it would be a good place to at least share my thoughts. I’m not sure if it wiill be read but appreciate being given the opportunity to share my thoughts regardless.
At this stage I’ve invested 35 hours in the game. I’ve played 3 classes with the most spent on Veteren. I’ve also played both Vermintide games so I am farmiliar with Fat Shark’s track record. The music and atmostphere for me as Warhammer fan is bang on. I think that’s nailed. For me one of the crucial failing points of this genre is a lack of ambition. Without left for dead there would be no Darktide, but what sets this game apart is the lore and it’s rich universe to draw from. There is endless room for this game to expand and I think there is so much potential to grow and itereate meaningfully.
I think there are several longer suggestions I could ellaborate on but off the top of my head here are a few that I frequently came back to whilst playing my first 35 hours on:
Feedback loop.
Beyond getting an operative to level 30 I felt like there Isn’t much to keep me playing besides curiously working my through he other classes. I’ve stated playing Psycher and am enjoying that but once i’ve played every class what then? I think what this game needs to do is look at what makes coop games unique. This afterall is a coop hack and slash. What if it leveraged aspects like it takes two where only certain parts of levels can be carried out by certain classes?
What this could look like is something like:
Zealot - reads a scripture or is on a zealous quest
Skitarri - has to pilot or hack into some old tech
Hive worlder - has to settle some sort of fued
Ogryn - something strength based e.g. has to keep some sort of gate open to allow the rest of the party to pass
Psycher - Connect to astonomicon acting as a guide on a level (like to auspex) but only the psycher can as they have connection to the warp
These are only a few ideas but the potin is to make the classes unique linking between the events, quests and level types. Maybe this could be randomised or players form thier own partys on a job hunt board etc.
Solo play
I feel like the ship we have as the home base could have more opportunities for different modes. Namely, soloplay. I would love to see a quest line on this story that caters to single play using the excellent music and casting and dive more into the hive world from the perspective as an inquistion operative. Perhaps an assasin as an example.
Crafting
The crafting for me is sligthly improved from Vermintide but I feel like the cap is hit really early so I’m spent. What if weopns had thier own tree like the talents only accessible after level 30, or mods that you picked up in the game. More crafting for items in the expeditions, and linking up the purpose on that type of mission. The Warhammer 40k world is rich in different weapons so it would be great to see more of these in time but only if there was a more detailed plan to make them more that just get them to orange and 500.
Communication challenges
While I commend cross play for a more diverse setting, It can be quite the jaring experience when someon in your party clearly doesnt have a way to mute theselves so all the audio in game get’s echoed. I would love an opportunity to mute players (for you personally not everyone) and make the communication wheel better. Some suggestions I would include are:
You lead
I need help
Wait for me
Sorry
Stick together
Regroup
Basically there needs to be context to the social wheel whilst being more accessible for players without headsets. I find that most of the time all I say is, cheer, need health, need ammo, go there. Middle mouse is tag, rending most of the wheel redundant. Perhaps there could be a lot more options and the player decides however many to have. E.g the basic 6 but no more than 9.
Commending players post game (1 vote per player)
5. Better optimisation
This goes without saying, as the price of PC’s has sky rocket i think if this game had some better optimisation, the frame rates would be better, seemless, less time pent loading and address some of the tech debt that this game has. I have on multiple occasions just suddnely disconnected for no reason or the game just crash.
Knuckles for Ogryn seconded, thirded, however many times it’s been requested I would like to add my request to the pile. If you let me throw hands in Tertium, you’ll never get me off this game.
Not powerfists, to be clear. Powerfists is too much. Just a set of nucks is fine.
New maps to progress the story. More weapons for the base classes. Most of all, I want nurgle daemons like plaguebearers and nurglings. Plague toads and rotflies would be awesome too. If they can’t do that, just give us more Nurglish mutated heretics.
1: New missions and maps.
2: New class-specific weapons for everyone. New marks of existing weapons too.
3: Adding an enormous variety of free cosmetics to the Commissary and generally tossing the current FOMO garbage trash model as it exists where it belongs, the dumpster.
4: Fixing the power creep (Skit is honestly seeming to be pretty balanced in this regard imo, but time to tone down things and rebalance).
5: Add a proper ‘build your own mission’ modifier+level selection and a solo mode.
6: Make Expeditions and Mortis actually useful for something.
personly? i would like more interesting ideas for how to blance the game to get added instead of “make the game harder? okay” proceeds to grab the HP and Damage sliders and crank them up and call it a day
i would prefer there harder because they got more skillful rather then just a stat upgrade, I.e. they move smarter using their numbers smarter set up in ways that combos their strenghts together to force you to use your kit smartly.
rather then just Hur dur we’ll make it so you die in one hit and they take 30 more hits per unit. its just borring, like take starcraft 2 for exp ( im aware its a different game gerna all together but stay with me) in that game when you up the hardness scail you dont just increase damage they deal to you and how much hp they have, all that is the same for every level how ever they get smarter, and faster with their build orders and uses its units better. so they get harder because they get better at the game, making you have too. thats how you make it interesting. and thats what i want to see for this game.
Maps, or - even better - proper random map generation engine for the base game. Repurpose what they created for Expeditions to use assets of maps from the base game, make it build various complex layouts, may be even train some AI model to do it (supervise it first) - and add few of those missions with random maps to every difficulty on Mission Terminal, in every rotation.
Then new foes - and I mean NEW, not just “bulwark but smaller” one, or “gunner but it shoots in bursts and takes 2 times more hits to kill”, NEW. Like, a Gene Stealer cult enemies with unique abilities (wall/ceiling walking, long-distance pounce, flying, sudden attacks from around the corner, parrying your melee attacks; or you fight a regular-looking elite - but it happens to be gene stealer in disguise and instead of dying it turns into another, stronger foe), or chaos psyker foes, specialist and/or elites which can use surrounding objects to attack you and disrupt your formation while staying in some cover, can set kinetic shields around gunners they protect and blast your group with AoE CC explosions.
Everything else is irrelevant, all those classes, weapons etc - you still have to play them on the same 20 or so maps, vs the same foes that have bored you to death at this point, it’s meaningless.
And yea, we need QP option in Havoc, so that more people could enjoy the mode. The best way to do it is to add unranked Havoc mode of play everybody could use for training, where your rank doesn’t change and there is a better selection of maps and modifiers than in usual Havoc. Make QP enabled there (leave the ranked mode Group Finder only) - and much more people will be interested to play it.
FYI Fatshark rarely ever does roadmaps because they tend to miss all the dates. The only time they do release date is when they have it locked down hard.
