why weren’t there any weapon based penances with the penance rework? we got challenges for very specific map/heretic based challenges as well as niche plastyles but theres no penances for getting ‘x’ amount of kills? seems like a wasted opportunity to get players to try out a new weapon?
Good call - and unlike maps you actually can choose what weapons you wanna use.
Frankly, weapon penances should be what drives equipment progress.
If you want to max out all weapons, you have to play with all of the weapons.
Reloading, let’s say bolter enough times gives you some proficiency and decreases overall reload time permanently (for bolter). Kills with ADS decrease recoil when ADS etc.
But unfortunately it’s not what any tide games are about…
It would require extensive rework of already established Talents tree, weapon and class balance so there is no chance in warp this will happen.
Shame…
That would actually be nice.
It could be combined with the crafting rework.
We could get the ability to upgrade all of our weapon stats to 90% by spending diamantine.
And the weapon penances could improve each stat by another 10% to let us reach 100% on each stat.
Each weapon family could have 5 penance types for the 5 stat bars.
Those could each come with 5 tiers, which each grant +2 to the related stat.
Either as direct stat bonuses that automatically apply to all weapons of that family,
or as an increase to the cap to which the stats of each individual weapon can be upgraded.
Yeah, it does sound nice, doesn’t it? Unfortunately it would be a nightmare to rebalance.
Also I don’t think this change would be too popular (I tend to be unique when it comes to some of the ideas).
To discuss this on example:
Let’s take Bolters slow reload. It can be fixed by Zealot and Veteran with proper talents (you have to give up other talents for them).
Zealot up to 30% speed, Veteran up to 55% (not including buff that could be on the weapon).
Now we remove talents speeding up reload or remove that part of the talent from keystones.
That makes your focus on rebalancing two trees and a gun instead of just one gun.
See where I’m going with “the nightmare on the rebalance”?
It would have domino effect which would require to stack everything against everything including other classes and among shared weapons.
If it were up to me, all guns would have “fixed” damage which could only increase if a proper part or ammunition was changed with possibility of other negative effects (or not - a bit bigger mag should not influence reload time. Unless it’s a drum, then we add feed malfunction to the mix).
Also there would be exception for psyker in terms of upgrading damage - you know warp shenanigans.
All talents could be focused on survivability of our rejects (stamina regen, toughness regen, carrying ammo capacity ect.). The damage part would be only connected with melee and warp weapons. Maybe special attacks (grenades, shouts etc.) too.
This way we could avoid things like… AUTOGUN OUTDAMAGING BOLTER ON A SIGLE TARGET.
But it’s not up to me, so I’m just here to grumble and meme.
The best way for gun progression, that would not breake balance, is to unlock new skins for those weapons. Apart from skins, maybe get special tokens to unlock specific blessings, and discounts on upgrades and new purchases of said weapon.
It might have at some point been planned
As we had the weapon insignia that were leaked previously
Weapon penances would be great but they could be more creative than x number of kills. They should encourage players to practice specific techniques associated with each weapon family. Eg push attack combos for power sword or (really creative now) headshots with headhunter rifles.
I’m not going to restate everything I’ve already said, but this has been my biggest complaint with the penance update I’ve said on multiple threads.
We have a pathetic amount of free weapon skins. Surely penances to give at least one skin per weapon family wouldn’t have been that hard to do?
