Weapon Balancing Across Classes

Lmao. It’s actually the other way around.

Zealot absolutely works around every downside of the Bolter while also giving it more power.

This just seems convoluted to do instead of balancing weapon stats, blessings, and talent trees to not make certain weapons outrageous on any class. I don’t understand the preference doing this when you can instead actually balancing every facet that affects a weapon’s performance. Also, Zealot and Veteran have distinct melee paths which Psyker lacks, as they have more a non-force weapons path than melee oriented, so they should be able to take whatever melee weapon further than a Psyker, and that shouldn’t be as controversial, despite it being so with the mk iv dueling sword.

I do think there’s still a problem here with it outcompeting the rest of Psyker’s melee arsenal regardless. IV just needs a nerf, it’s unbalanced on everyone, just to different degrees.

Interaction is fair and good on flamer so frankly don’t want it patched.

They’re right even taking that out of the picture though. DoD, annoint in blood, duelist, heaps of attack speed. Zealot is unironically better at burst bolter use than Vet. Yeah Vet obviously makes the ammo go further and uses it better as a consistent sniper.

Of course there is difference, but not necessarily in either Veteran or Psyker’s favour - for example, on Psyker you can take Infernus Staff as your secondary thus completely eliminating the one problem of DS which is horde clear, while on Veteran you will use your melee for horde clearing at times and there’s not really much of a way around it. I skimmed over the details because such theorycrafting about ‘which one is stronger akschually and why’ usually doesn’t lead anywhere on the forums, so I’m not gonna delve into it now either. Suffice to say, I do not agree that Duelling Sword is more OP on Veteran than it is on Psyker.

As for this though, I need to make one thing clear before discussing the subject any further - what I meant by Dueling Sword being ‘fine’ on Psyker before was that it wasn’t as opressive and fun-sapping for your teammates and I stand by it.
But it was not ‘fine’ by any other means. The weapon was easily the best in Psyker arsenal and killed all of his melee choices. Moreover, it was already straining the limits of how powerful a weapon can be at all, not just on Psyker - and that was back then, before Psyker got melee buffs in his skill tree redesign.

If you just took the DS IV away from Veteran and Zealot now, it wouldn’t be ‘fine’ now. It was already killing all other choices on Psyker so it needed a nerf, but now that Psyker’s melee is no longer desperate and people realized just how OP the weapon is, the problem of ‘Zealot / Veteran stealin all the frags’ would just shift to Psyker as well. We wouldn’t fix the first problem of DS killing all the choices on Psyker that was already present there before the U&L, but we’d also be left with the new problem of an insanely OP melee combatant sapping all the fun from the team. Two steps forward, one step back so to say.

I don’t know what’s real anymore

Anyway, i agree with OP in spirit but doubt FS will make a bunch of copy mks.

I have an assumption that balancing this game during big changes is already a nightmare. OP’s proposal triples the amount of mks in weapon families.

To be fair I just use shout and shredder grenades with a recon lasgun while using duelling sword and hordes don’t feel like much of a problem.

I’d have a hard time believing if you said that you never ever clear a horde with the DS in this setup, while saying the same about Psyker with Infernus Staff sounds like another tuesday.

Although admittedly, it might be just a personal preferences speaking through me here. Not interested in exploring the subject any further though.
