~80% of my matches are the same - one team is full level 35 with multiple blue badges or higher, meanwhile the other team has one level 35 (two on rare occasions), and the rest are low levels, which goes exactly how you’d expect. I’ve been on both sides of that nonsense, and it’s not fun for either side. People can cry about quitters all they want, but the horrendous “matchmaking” is the primary reason there are so many of them in the first place.
It already is dead. It takes up to 5 minutes to find a game. Any game. If you want one that is actually playable and not you, a noob fresh off the bus, and 2 bots VS a 4stack, be prepared to quit and requeue for up to half an hour. It was better for a few hours when the Rat Ogre released, but now it’s back to where it was. I keep seeing the same 20-30 people in my games. The elimination goal of 40 000 during the first Weekly Spotlight event was reached within just a few hours. Now we can barely scrape together 250 000 in almost a full week.
This thing NEVER had a chance to suceed because only a handful of people ever truly cared, to begin with. The 95% off sale of VT2 and the curiosity of people towards the new gamemode, and the cosmetics locked behind it have massively inflated the player count of VS. Oh, and the FOMO events did as well. Now the noobs have been all but chased away, the novelty gave way to being disgusted by the absolute state of this thing, and most people have gotten the cosmetics they wanted.
All this came at a cost of literally breaking the game with various propgress wipes that are STILL not fixed after 5 weeks. Do not for a second believe that data recovery can take this long normally. It should have been done in a day, or at most a week. I should know. There is an extreme lack of professionalism and competence somewhere down the line. The fact that they had no actual backups for their database is beyond insane. First-grade university students who learn IT engineering already know that you are supposed to have backups for databases. First-grade aspiring IT managers know that you do not outsource your backend to cretins who have no backups.
Besides the progress wipes, there have been a myriad of other issues, crashes, etc. Just look at the bug reports on the forum and know that 99% of the players don’t have a forum account or can be bothered to make bug reports. I have found 7 different UI bugs (missing localisation strings) in the menu since the VS release. Even the menus have bugs, on the regular! What does that say about fatshark’s quality control? That they have non. Nil. Nada. Not only they don’t play their own game, they apparently don’t even open the menus.
All in all, I have 0 faith in them ever unfcking this mode. Or the game, any more than it is absolutely necessary to be sort-of playable.
Yeah, they lured in a ton of new players with the massive sales, but they’re not going to stick around when the first game mode they try is versus, and they get crushed constantly.
I am pretty sure that only way to save versus is to make own Discrod server, and use some balancing tool and player made MMR system.
