I think Voidstaff needs a buff, and before everyone goes nuts hear me out.
I do Auric Maelstroms on every class but Ogryn, and the damage output comparison is just wild. Psyker given its fragility most certainly does have powerful options, one of which being assail cleave+shotgun build, but the dedicated “nuke” options seem to underperform.
Even when playing at my best I feel like a BiS voidstrike build falls behind, while it can mitigate some priority targets quite quickly, I feel a lot of other careers options can do the same without the nessicary ramp up time.
Being able to feel pretty safe while spamming lights on Zealot doing 1m cummulative damage in maelstrom is a drastic difference to the void staff experience, where even playing at your best (functionally a mobile turret) I think I capped out at about 600k.
I understand damage is relative, but it seems a bit wild that to delete for example a crusher quickly I have to invest so heavily, when anyone with a bolt weapon (for example) can just pap pap pap instant delete.
I can achieve insane output on psyker but the build variety (for damage) seems a bit limited, and might even need to be addressed since cleavy assail builds feel like they trivialize a lot.
You might be playing it wrong, because 600k looks like almost bare minimum I’d usually get on aurics, let alone maelstroms.
It does sound like you’re trying to kill things with bodyshots or without fully charging staff. You should aim at the heads and try to stay at 3-4 stacks of nexus. With surge blessing that will proc your double-shot pretty often, and now that Empyric Resolve is a thing, staying at critical levels of peril in a fight for crit buff is easier than ever. Surge crit shots pretty much oneshot crushers in the head.
And I’ve not even mentioned infinite cleaves on voidstrike. You just charge it, aim at the head level of mixed horde and watch your killfeed go crazy because nothing in this game except monstrosities can survive fully charged voidstrike headshot. That thing does not need a buff or it will actually become bolter except without bolter’s downsides
I mean, I understand the core principlies of it, I think the bigger issue is just having stuff die while charging, I generally play with decent players not public lobbies so stuff is vaproized pretty quick. I think the biggest problem is just getting to full charge in order to 1 shot a crusher, when it dies almost instantly.
Yah, I removed the crit blessing in favor of the charge time reduction blessing for this reason. Takes too long to charge up, and the extra crit chance doesn’t matter as much as being at full charge more often.
If you play with 3 good players, dmg done becomes all about who kills fastest, rather than having the highest theoretical output, most of dmg comes from killin chaff to begin with. In other words, the game is a snoozefest with capable players being absurdly powercrept, regardless of “difficulty” and modifiers. A seasoned 4-stack will breeze through anything 90%+ of time on autopilot, at which point, damage distribution matters little to none.
If you really care about topping dmg charts, just use purg, nothing can really touch it outside of kekback lugger maybe.
I don’t really care about charts, its just an issue im noticing playing around on psyker. Charts just provide some useful data sets, especially if you know your entire team and know they are pulling their weight.
