Versus mode - is it a run through points?

Dear developers! Why is the entire Versus mode essentially not a real fight, but a quick speedrun by points? Seriously, why did you choose this particular progression? In fact, we can kill the entire team of heroes in all the matches for the rats, BUT! if they managed to pass a couple of points - they won! What kind of nonsense is this?! In fact, the entire “versus” mode is a speedrun by points, ONLY occasionally fighting off specials. This is all the progress. How so?! Why? When I understood the whole point of progress, I just gave up and lost the excitement. You kill the entire team of heroes without letting them reach the end of all the matches - and you lose. Huh?! Just because they managed to run through some points. This is simply ridiculous! Please fix this!

eh?

That´s, that’s not how it works? Its a competition.

Both sides take turns to do the same thing with their own careers&loudouts, which is to run the map as heroes which the other play as skaven trying to stop them. Points are earned by progressing the map while playing heroes.

Skaven side wants to stop the heroes in order to stop them from earning points. You do not directly get any points as Skaven, you have the potential to deny the other side points. Stopping them early means you dont have to go very far during your hero-round in order to earn more points than them.

So the win condition is simply to get further along the map than the other side do when they play the U5. Either by being better at the heroes than them or wiping them out as Skaven very early.

Side with more points after the final round wins.

You’ve just described everything I wrote above, only more precisely and in more detail. And that’s why I’m in… some kind of misunderstanding. As I wrote above, this is already a run through checkpoints, and not a real confrontation between two sides! It all comes down to “holding down the forward key” and running headlong to the points, occasionally shooting at the Skaven. The very concept of “versus” was EXACTLY THIS way you imagined it?! It’s just some kind of Mario, but not versus!

And how else would Versus be achieved? It’s a contest of skill and risk/reward, and it would be nigh-impossible to balance earning points as Skaven without creating degenerate tactics that aren’t just “kill the heroes as quickly as possible”.

Left 4 Dead Versus operates under the exact same principle as Vermintide. Players on the Infected team cannot score points - their goal is to make sure the Survivors score as few as possible. So, the team who manages to get further ahead, and is therefore better, scores more points!

The one point where it differs, and I’d argue could make the gamemode worse, is that a single player with a self-sustaining career such as Shade or Warrior Priest can truck on solo for quite a while without the rest of their team and still score full points (disregarding safehouse, which is a measly -10pts per hero dead).

Left 4 Dead’s method of tracking score heavily punishes players for dying, as it means that player is no longer actively contributing points to your total. Thus, a full team of four getting 50% of the way scores more points than a single player managing to make it to the end while the rest of his team wipes early.

With a team of intelligent Skaven players, it is extremely difficult for Heroes to make any meaningful progress towards objectives, let alone reach the goal. Again, same thing happens in Left 4 Dead. Scoring points by tracking progress is a way of deciding a match without making constant draws because everyone keeps wiping.

LOL! I won’t even respond to this nonsense. Good luck in running from checkpoint to checkpoint!

I always wanted to be just like campaign run, no points, no stats, no time. I didn’t need competition in just fun mess.

Yes, that’s the whole point

Move fast, keep momentum, complete the objectives and reach the end
If you lose even when wiping all heroes before they reach the end, that can only means you did even worse as heroes than they did

How else would it work otherwise?

Of course it is. I mean it is recruit difficulty. You can push through whole map without any problems. Hordes and elites provide 0 threat. Ignore all rats and run is the best tactic
Thats why it is speedrun.

I honestly disagree on the details of that, clearing elites is generally advisable because many of them got charging attacks that stagger/slow heroes that get hit. Particularly maulers, CWs and shield CWs.

I find my runs safer, even if slower, if the group kills everything in sight as it goes.

I agree on killing the big problematic ones like Maulers and Rothelms/shields, but for the rest, if you can kite them, do so.
