I was testing the graphic optimization function of Nvidia App (the new replacement for Nvidia Geforce experience) and upon launch everything in the config was deleted/reset to default. This includes window size, resolution, etc. and all of my mod options that live there. I could set up everything again fine, but that would mean manually adjusting every mod I had again, with some like Custom HUD taking a long time. I wish to simply copy+paste my old mod settings over.
I noticed it resets when config is edited with a lot of lines, and not from changing values.
I have tried:
Read-only on. The game somehow ignores the config completely and runs default settings.
Deleting the original file and replacing it with a backup.
Launching in admin mode.
Launching normally through launcher, as well as a launcher skip executable.
Is this intended behavior? I understand it could be something in my setup that the game doesn’t like. Is there any way to prevent the game from doing this?
If needed I can upload console logs.
I did not learn coding, but have learnt by experience.
When you don’t understand a language, you work by testing until you have enough knowledge.
I would test by replacing parts and test…
Try a little part… It works… Great. Try an other part… Etc.
Until you determinate that:
you can’t replace (i doubt of this)
there’s a line that create this problem (what I think)
Be careful, it could be several lines.
Also, I am not sure you work on the real config file. The config file has no mention of the mods…
Hi Julia, thanks for the suggestion. Tried it just now, but it also did not work. I have a feeling Ralendil is onto something, and I will test it later today, out of stubbornness of this whole ordeal. I will update whether or not things work out.
I’ve fixed it, you can mark this as closed.
It was definitely some section that was causing issue, like a deprecated line or some other; I can’t say which as it was an old backup. I can only wonder the original issue of why Nvidia’s optimization caused this.
