I once met a havoc forged smyker with 3 wound curios in auric, he went down constantly it was hilarious.
Uff… I want to play this game so much, I’m still waiting on that keyboard and mouse support for PS5 , just like Xbox has. . Happy gaming everyone!
The proposed de-rank system is gonna reduce play because it turns H40 missions into precious items people will hold onto and be too careful about. (1) It discourages challenge runs, (2) discourages jumping into pubs, and (3) discourages pubs from taking anyone not running meta builds. Explained:
- I’ve got a premade I regularly play with and beating H40 is not a big deal at this point so we are doing challenge runs (e.g., 4 Ogryns, only melee, etc.). If we only get 3 tries, it’s real discouraging to try hard things. We do 2 challenges and then run the 3rd with meta gear to make sure we can stay at 40? This is not how we want to spend our time.
- When friends aren’t on, I’ll hop into pubs to try and help. The low 20s seem like they need the most help. It’s regularly a bit of a clown show, but I find it fun to try to help and clutch things out when needed. However, if now I’m risking losing my H40 mission to play with friends, then helping low-level pubs is too risky. Low-level pub runs are fun, but not as fun as playing H40. Even if you don’t have a crew, if you prefer playing H40 you’re now gonna hold onto that rank and not risk a low-level pub game removing a chance to play it.
- Similarly, if the risk of de-rank is high, pubs are only going to take folks running the meta. This was how it was at the beginning of Havoc (forget showing up as Ogryn) when everyone was trying to get to 40, but now that things have settled I see a lot more off-meta stuff and people being more relaxed in who they’ll let join. Let’s not go back to those early days.
Please please think through this change and what it means to make an H40 mission a precious item to be careful with.
absolutely, in an ironic twist i’m “glad” not having a premade, cause at the end what you’re gonna play?
for now i’m in that weird situation that, given bearable side effects, i play 6-8hours a day just to “occupy” myself.
maelstroms aside i can squeeze in the odd HISTG when the timer for a new map hasnt expired.
now i imagine in a 4man, 3(successful) tries done… oookay guys thats it for the day whats good on netflix???
cmon sharks, you cant be serious.
this isnt a demand/supply-thing that thrives from shortages.
I do feel the derank system to be pretty arbitrary, and I can only assume its here as a way to artificially inflate playtime by slowing down people who’re planning to stop playing after reaching 40.
But if that was the case, too little too late, those folks have already hit 40 and left because it’s 1000 times easier to ask for help on the Discord, get a bunch of god gamers to boost you to 40, and call it a day.
If they wanted a punishment for failure, they didn’t have to do anything, the loading times are punishment enough. Not like they have a “Replay Mission” button on the fail screen or anything.
Or perhaps it was to create artificial tension, “This is our last deployment! AAAAAH!”. But you’re buying that tension at the cost of real annoyance and frustration. Darktide’s plenty tense as is!
This is right along the lines of the games that try and introduce tension by restricting saves. “If you die you’ll have to replay 2 hours, isn’t that scary!?” which like, yeah it is, until you die and decide to play something else instead. The frustration always outweighs the tension.
At least he planned ahead.
I had a buddy who’d regularly tell all-wound martyr non-zealots something like “You have a lot of confidence in our ability to pick you up that many times”.
But they’re playing the meta builds. They’re using their crutches and their carry-me-Fatsharks and they’re still getting repeatedly and consistently flattened by the dumbest things and showing a complete absence of mechanical skill in the process of doing so.
Why is that, if not that they’re being boosted?
Well, in that case indeed, they depend on exactly the meta playstyle from the entire group and were most likely carried.
Honestly, it’s a shame about the time wasted.
But, I’m not desperate, Havoc is dead to me and is not a new ‘mode’, just a new map tab where the requirement is 30++++ and new modifiers.
However, I am curious to see the Visions, I don’t want to guess, but if they are on the level of Havok, then the game is dead for me, and what you do with it is no longer interesting.
Reward as a motivator or a nice bonus, well gold I do not get a long time ago (limit of 25 reached VERY long ago), the weekly contracts turns out to have a limit. Achievements - so they run out.
The main problem of the game - great ideas and suggestions from REAL players who are not lazy to write them, but Fatshark does not care. And don’t tell me you have to coordinate everything with GW, I know.
Havoc - everyone was talking in advance about the problem of dragging level 1 players straight to level 40, it could have been fixed in 1 month, which was before the release of the mode, but for some reason they decided to leave it for almost half a year. IIf we start a new season, it’s more correct to drop everyone in rank, yes it’s unpleasant, but it’s fairer and not as frustrating (why do I take 40th every week, and here I am raising 10 levels again from scratch?).
And damn how I am pissed off that in the DEVBLOG description of changes is not complete, why should I guess what and how it will be, if the full description will be in the patch, so leave better before the patch information, do not need to make intrigue, you do not know how to do it properly.
As much as I love this game, I’m just as annoyed and pissed off by Fatshark
I don’t believe there is any solid evidence (correct me if I am wrong) that this is true.
Typically, established IPs care about cosmetics, worlds, and other elements staying true to the source material, but game mechanics and systems is usually not something that the House of Tolkien (for example) is concerned with in a video.
Respect the source and make money for the owners.
I disagree. Enraging Elites seems to be really annoying, and breaks current smite/voidblast psyker or chorus zealot playstyles. I’m looking forward to see a chorus zealot using their ability just to get karking BONKED by a mauler. Fun times!
Tell me about it. I play psyker. I ALWAYS have to take bubble. Not just a passive aura, but the whole ability. Playstyle is locked to it. Imo Emperor’s fading light IS the most annoying one of all the mutators, no doubt.
All in all I may be glad if we swapped Emperor’s fading light to Enraging Elites .
What you listed as bad things about Enraging Enemies, I see them as good things actually, forcing Zealots / Psykers to Dodge from time to time instead of perma stunning enemies sounds more engaging to me, their teammates will have to prioritize CC immune targets while they cast
i’m just reading through this wall of text now as i have a bit of free tme, and it’s indeed what i’ve been thinking since learning about the changes: it’s like someone at fatshark considers barriers to actually playing the game a part of the game’s difficulty. it’s a weird concept i can’t get behind. give children the toys, breaking open the toy box isn’t part of the game.
Well if it’s all from the same designer, then that’d make sense no? I would hope their designers are like, flexible and properly trained and use a lot of metrics and critical/constructive feedback when designing stuff but it could also be just one guy who plays League of Legends and thinks this is what good design is.
I had a GM like that once, believed the only way to run a good game was to inflict as much suffering as possible. They also played LoL. Correlation, not causation, but it has colored my opinion a bit.
What did you say! PM me if it was really that bad I wish the forums would only hide the comments and let us choose to see it or not.
hopefully they roll back the team derank change… its gonna be so toxic and unfun
I feel like they definitely think Darktide is something it isn’t. Everything about the game design suggests it’s some seasonal, constantly evolving meta and content game like Warframe.
Actual reality is they push out like one significant update a year or so and the game is live service only where it’s detrimental. It’s not at all a live service experience.
Lol, if only.
And in their defense, it’s more like 4.
Also known as “The Live Service Standard”.
Seriously, only DRG and Helldivers 2 even get close to deserving that title. Maybe a few other games I’ve not played too.
As far as I can tell, the majority of Live Service games are just regular games that demand more of the player, be it their time or money, but don’t actually justify that with any additional value on their end.
I mean, they might talk about continual content updates and the like, but there’s plenty of non-live-service games that still do that.
Aye, Darktide has constantly felt like whoever was in charge of all the ancillary systems and mechanics, outside of the actual combat loop and mission design, was building something for a Gacha collection game or seasonal title with constant regular releases or an MMORPG, and Darktide is just…none of these things.
I don’t know if that’s Tencent hammering stuff from above without really knowing what they’re doing, or if it’s internal management/dev leads chasing industry concepts and trends from other titles but who fundamentally don’t actually understand how to properly apply to their product. Regardless, we end up with lots of garbage that doesn’t work and drags the whole experience down.
