TLDR: Implement a Temporary Health system that uses Toughness as the basis of how you get “Grey Health”
I like the idea of Chip damage in Darktide, however it makes Grimoires at higher difficulties painful as there is no way to “regenerate” health (without meds) as there was in VT2 with the Temp HP system.
Using the already existing toughness mechanic you could make any chip damage taken appear as Grey Health and from there you have a multiple options on how to implement this mechanic.
- Grey health is replenished over time as long as toughness isn’t broken and you aren’t currently taking damage
- Grey health is replenished by achieving kills while toughness isn’t broken
3.Grey health does not replenish until toughness reaches max
4.Grey health is lost entirely upon reaching 0 toughness
5.Grey health is lost at a set rate until toughness is at least at 1
- If the player receives damage that would down them with their current “Green” Health they go down
- If the player receives damage that would down them with their current “Green” Health they do not go down
