Thoughts on powercreep and the future of darktide

So, they don’t need to be as good as the dueling sword and the dueling sword can just be better than them? All while blatantly balancing new content around the Dueling Sword?
It sounds a lot like you’re not actually trying to fix the issue of dueling swords dominating the meta

There will always be a meta. Perfect balance isn’t realistic in this game.

I am in favor of some minor nerfing to DS damage btw. But if it goes from top of S to like C that’s not a good “fix”

So I guess we circled back into agreement that they need to place nerfs on the OP outliers.
It’s not like an either or thing to begin with, they can reign in the outliers but then also bring up the weak aspects. See: Ogryn rework will as far as I can see do this quite proficiently by nerfing light em up boss damage and bruiser, but making many other builds viable and buffing bad weapons

This is the opposite of “embracing powercreep”, it’s striving for actual balancing of the scales and it’s the correct approach. I hope they will keep this up and do it for all other classes. Bring up smoke grenades and make exec stance more fun to use, come up with more fun blessings or make weapons more varied, then bring shout+shredders+uncanny in line so it stops being the only choice.

No, we don’t agree. I’m talking about perhaps making the DS take an extra heavy stab to kill a crusher. As far as movement goes, I’d want the norm to move the average closer to knife.

I’m in favor of more significant nerfs to certain psyker builds that practically play themselves.

I want to see at least half the weapons in darktide get some minor/modest speed and damage buffs. We are not the same.

Quite hard to run through a map and break the spawn cap limit with less mobility, eh? I feel you

Back on this? Do you actually think I’ve done more than that speedrun? Honest question.

Also, nothing short of the knife would be any good for speed running. Slow weapons getting a bit faster wouldn’t make them viable for that

That point was not about deep and complicated mechanics’ balance (there for sure you need to be expert), but whether the game feel too easy or not. So, it’s as I wrote, you need the opinion of the whole community, not the 0.5% of sweaters super tryharders

Free to think so. To me, it doesn’t make you invicible… and, with a couple of buff/fix to the others two ults (wich have some problems), all the three ults would be in line

?, dunno if you missread me or if I missread you… but that’s not the reason because I think Plasma balanced. It’s about pro and cons when compared with the others meta ranged weapons

I don’t get what the point of difficulty settings is if the highest one needs to be balanced around “the whole community” though.

Why can’t Sub-Malice be fun for casuals, malice and heresy for the range from above-casual to below-sweat, and damnation for sweats? Is it the rewards? Fug it man, make all the rewards the same then. I just don’t understand why the highest difficulty setting has to be accessible for everyone.

I said exactly this once and ended up having to fend off a whole bunch of idiots who got butthurt over it.

This the game should be balanced around its hardest difficulty it’s the literal logical end point for players.

Literally everything else falls into line that stuff remains easier as it should be. Hell darktide is literally designed around players to progress though the difficulties to access more content and get more rewards.

Are you aware of what exc stance needs in terms of a buff to stand in line with voc.

It’s only going to exasperate the existing issues with the game.

More damage for veteran is not what this game needs.

As a Veteran main: of course we need more damage! :smiling_face_with_horns:

Wish there was modifier “no ammo” appearing across more missions regularly. Feels really rare.

It feels like a completely different game. No safety ranged kills and higher risk up close personal with heavy melee builds.

I would even stick to that modifier exclusively.

They put specials/elite everywhere cause it is exactly what players asked for.
Perso, I would like less elites but more powerful (the elites) and MORE “hordes / lesser enemies” and when I say more, I mean mooooooooooooooooooooooore.
And I don’t like specials everywhere, so I avoid histg.

But I am not sure they would even consider to go for less elites…

Well, we had something. But now that everyone can achieve what they desire, there’s virtually zero chance to get something that’s not so good, but extremely strong. Sure, the method of delivery for some, may have left much to be desired. But… I kinda called this and people thought I was crazy.

You’re still completely wrong, and I ask you to say what you mean because others who haven’t dealt with you before might not know what you’re talking about. The Crafting Overhaul was a NET POSITIVE and actually allows Fatshark to balance Weapons with greater precision because Weapons’ stats are no longer completely determined by RNG and are thus now more fixed in their capabilities. The balancing of Darktide was upset by Patch 13, not the Crafting Overhaul. Weapons having RNG stats was NEVER a genuine form of balancing, it was just a MASSIVE annoyance. Think.

Yeah I don’t think random weapons was ever a good way of determining weapon strength for a player. It was only ever a way of delaying that person getting what they wanted. Therefore, it was a way of artificially increasing playtime, at the cost of someones patience. It drove many people away, perhaps even permanently in some cases. Good for the health of the game? I think not.

It’s nuanced.

For example some malice difficulty player will say that the game is hard. But it might be a temporary statement cause maybe he will become better with time and his opinion will change.

Another thing you need to ask yourself why it’s hard for him? Maybe he don’t understand mechanics cause ingame tutorial isn’t good enough.

Like i think tutorial isn’t good in DT, i would put some short video clips with narration that demonstrate how things work - “here you perform a slide and look ranged enemies are missing their shots, now perform it yourself 3 times”. Not even saying some new players can skip psykanium tutorial. FS should just put all core mechanics tutorial in the prologue mission and add a glossary.

Hardcore players can provide feedback that has no human error involved almost, so like it’s crystal pure data.

But, they can be delusional on how people who can’t invest much time in the game will always do a signifficant ammount of mistakes. Aswell as some pople are just bad at games, and that’s it.

It’s rly on devs to communicate with players and explain why they nerf/buff something and also explain gameplay mechanics well inside the game aswell.

No the crafting overhaul didn’t increase player power it just gave everyone access to the same level of power rather than the triple layered rng hell it originally was.

If that’s a problem, then it’s a problem such a level of power can be reached by players and not having it’s accessibility being locked behind a combination of rng and significant time investment only from the smallest % of players.

So yeah I still think you’re crazy for thinking arbitrarily having things locked behind insane levels of rng that the only the most insanely dedicated and lucky players can reach such levels of power some how had something to do with balancing the game and not just a lazy way of fatshark to try and artificially drag out player time as much as possible by having people essentially ‘chase the dragon’.
:man_shrugging:

As said if those outliers are still around and only accessible by the most elite players the balance issue still exists just more likely to be ignored because of it being in a much smaller scale and directly benefits those players “good players deserve to do better”

This has always been the central point to anything difficulty related, get better at the game and will bump their heads if the challenge is too low, get bored quicker and leave.

Yeah you shouldn’t balance for the 1%, especially not to those who strip away challenge via cheaty mods like @Jado pointed out elsewhere re:DS; this is a no-brainer and nobody said this should be the case.
There is however a fair amount of top-tier players currently because even HiSTG or the tougher Maelstroms are too easy given all the power creep.

Repeating myself for the gazillion’th time: 4 good (not great) players should be properly challenged at the hardest diffs, not snooze through it all like you currently can. Edit: Maybe it should target 4 great players, it’s not impossible to become great with as reasonable amount of hours; something to strive towards.

You should have to use all the (non-OP) abilities, gear, consumables and most importantly your 1337 skillz and brain to earn your victory, not have your participation trophy handed you on a diamantine platter.

I didn’t think this was a controversial subject…
