Thoughts on Patch 15 and the overhaul in general (Long and rambley)

Preface: I’ve put in about 150 hours since a little before the big rework through to today and have a total of 270 hours in the game total. Played a good amount of all the classes, all at 30, not too many builds but generally have a feel for all. I prefer to vomit all my thoughts into a single post rather than make 70 different posts, so its like a reverse patch notes deal. Wall of text about different things. If I think a small issue should be focused on a post I will do that eventually.

So I haven’t posted in a good while, I crunched around 100+ hours in the first two months of release and gave my feedback, so finally back to it after a much needed upgrade to the game. Good work Fatshark on improving the game, the builds are fun and diverse and cover different playstyles, the weapons feel better, and thank The Emperor the penances are fixed because at this point I have plenty of resources that are sitting there because I have the weapons I want with the right stats and stuff so penances have been my endgame.

TLDR: Good job so far and small tweaks are needed, otherwise should be good other than the Vet Talent Tree. Fix that right quick because Vet may be a rare species until it gets looked at. Also more banter. Love the banter and need more.

Classes (Usual build I went)
Ogryn
(Build: Bullgryn with some dips into heavy attacks, Shield, Heavy Gorgon Stubber, big boom) Doesn’t feel like a big slab of glass getting shot down within seconds any more. Actually feels like an ogryn that can dish out pain or take it or become an ork with dakka. Have no big complaints about them in general, have only been improved from my memory.

Zealot
(Build: Melee focus with Eviscerator, Heavy braced autogun, dashes, stuns, martyrdom keys) Used to feel like a melee murder machine, feels like a melee murder machine with nitrous oxide now.
-Complaints: The charge sometimes uses up both dashes in a single dash, would be nice to have an internal CD of like a second or 2.
-Can be shotgunned out of the charge, would like to be an uninterruptable missile after hitting the button. Damaged yes, just wasting the charge no.
-Fire grenades should be a drastically different color. There’s some deference now but still hesitate going into it.
-Still feels just a tad bit squishy. Either a bit more toughness on kill or no health damage unless toughness is broken. Or just flat damage reduction not just toughness but earlier suggestion I think would be better because its kill more heal more rather than just take more like the ogryn. This is just me nitpicking.

Psyker
(Build: Deimos force sword, surge staff, Assail, bubble shield, empower keys ) Actually feels like it can handle anything now rather than just elites. New powers focus on what enemy to focus on and that generally has your weapons filling the gap or double downing on that choice.
-Complaints: Brain burst feels bad in my book. Charge up is too long, not much toughness regen from it, a vet with a revolver does your job better and faster, a single melee hit takes you out of the charge. Too many problems to me. Could have the charge be faster, regen a percentage based on what was killed, talent that makes it uninterruptable, scabs/dregs should charge faster, something because its fallen behind in my book.
-Assail was right to nerf, I used it as weapon 3 instead of a “power”. Maybe just a bit more damage on focus or make it faster.

Veteran - Mostly before patch 15, will end it with thoughts about it.
(Build: Heavy Lasgun or revolver, power sword, Krakk grenades, almost full support build)
Feels good now, still some identity issues but generally a long range menace to elites and specials. Depending on the weapon it was either a killer to everything that could spam shots or a destroyer to any elite/special.
-Pre 15 complaints: Volley fire lighting up ALL ranged enemies needs to have a different color for elites, specials, dregs/scabs. Hitting ult and seeing nothing but yellow dudes really messes with target priority.
-Upgraded medkits/ammo crates should be a different color. Just a little QoL upgrade in my mind.
-Voiceline for the shout should always go off no mater what. Don’t care if it clips into something but there should be a notice that it went off.

-Post 15 complaints: I think the krakk grenade was stealth nerfed or just bugged. Used to always kill a crusher or bulwark but it just knocks them on their ass now.
-Talent tree has too many nodes on it. Others have done the math and said their piece but it sucks now. Either merge perks, get rid of perks, give some branches to the side of the tree so they’re not necessary to reach the roots, just something because it feels bad and doesn’t feel like “my” build.
-The Marksman keystone should be changed to losing stacks when not scoped in. Standing still is basically death in the game and doesn’t matter if you can get around it with headshots. Baseline should just be unscoped to lose stacks.

Enemies - just gonna say the complaints
Elites: Maulers, overhead should not fully down a full health and toughness person.

Ogryn: Need to be louder. Big ole stomps or something because stealth crushers shouldn’t be a thing.
-Overhead same as the Mauler. Big damage yes, but with them being stealthier than Clan Eshin Assassins it needs to change.

Specials:
-Dogs need to slow the hell down with the amount of health they have. Yeah they have higher stagger and damage from melee but it’s hell trying to target them.
-Snipers need to have a longer setup and time between shots. Have had them literally snipe and kill people within 2 seconds of a door opening.
-Trappers should make constant noise. Laugh while spawning and static before shooting is not enough for a run ending special that can shoot through a horde.
-Bombers fire should go away sooner. Just lasts too long for the damage and size of an area it denies. Also/or get rid of the slow it causes. Wouldn’t mind risking health if it meant I could save the lifetime it for it to go away.

General: Maybe having them trickle in from a door I’m LITERALLY SWINGING THROUGH is a bad idea. Just reroute them to a different door/spawn.

Missions
-Please please please just let us quickplay and select the missions we want. Spent hours just waiting for the mission type I needed to roll up in the gambling simulator.
-Please just give us mission names. Foundry Fumbles, Explosive Elevator, Radical Radio, Toxic Tree, anything if it saves me the process of describing the whole mission or face rolling a calculator to tell others what map I just played.
-Just leave tomes on at all times and give them fixed spawns. Hate spending 10 extra minutes waiting for others checking every nook and cranny for them.
-Screw grims, all my homies hate grims. Just take a % health and be done with it, creeping accumulative damage sucks.
-Lock higher difficulties at higher levels. During the sale weeks I was playing Heresy with people barely level 12 and I don’t mind carrying once in a while but I mind it if it’s literally the vast majority of my missions. Also insane that I matched with more level 30’s at diff 2 than at diff 4 just trying to get missions complete/no deaths.

Melk Missions
Good job on tightening these down a bit, could still use some work.
-Change kill 750+ dregs/scabs in X to just kill X dregs/scabs/TROOPS. Literally completed 8 missions before finishing killing 1000 of them in X multiple times. Sometimes they don’t spawn, sometimes teammates kill them faster than you can shoot/stab them for your kills, just feels really bad seeing it go up by literal few dozens each mission.
-Lower the grim/scripture requirement. Saw a meme that rerolling 16 books goes like water and wet, PB&J, fish and the sea. Just stupid amount for the work.
-Make the No Deaths mission 1 or less death. See above in Missions for reason.

Items/Gear - Mainly Acquisition
Please make getting essentially BiS gear easier. It’s terrible trying to get the right gear you want. I have 2 Million Dockets, 20k+ Plasteel, and 10k+ Diamantine with my 200+hours. It usually takes a quarter of those to roll the weapon and blessings I want. Said before give us an ingame process to get a max weapon or make it less expensive.

General things
-For some reason my movement turns to 0 after dodging. Either getting caught on rubble or dodge spamming doesn’t reduce dodge distance but move speed.
-Give the banter setting a tweak so our characters interact more. See all these posts about a long back and forth yet I’ve barely experienced them.

Spent too much time on this and losing word make juice. Just my jumbled thoughts on what I’ve played and experienced so far. Thanks for reading this you mad lad if you make it this far.

Edit: Another thing is custom build loadouts. When loading into a game with all psykers with lightning and assail, being able to quickly change into a brain burst for sniper killing would be nice.

In the interest of suggesting ways to help, how are you building in terms of toughness talents, to say you’re feeling squishy?

With Fury of the Faithful and Blazing Piety, the second charge and cooldown on crit nodes should allow you to have a charge almost always available for emergency toughness. With the Evis, I always grab the +50% toughness on kill - you’re frequently getting multiple kills per swing, so it’s a nice little extra burst. I can’t remember if I use the crit toughness DR in my evis/crit build, since it’s fairly tight on talent points.

Brain Burst isn’t intended to be a primary source of toughness regen - you could use it in a pinch (pop head out of cover, target, hide), but I wouldn’t consider Toughness on Warp Kill + Brain Burst to be worth serious consideration. It’s useful for most staves, the Illisi FS and Assail since they are good for killing multiple enemies quickly

I don’t understand this. You can already swap between your 5 loadouts in the pre-game lobby; are you looking for something different?

For zealot I usually go full left side with the middle keystone, don’t remember my evis build ATM but I think it’s crit per hit and maybe cleave. Will have to wait to find out, but I’ll probably switch to tough on cleave. Just me being a bit grumbly because a single burst from at least 2 ranged troops will lower toughness enough to take health damage from any melee. I dodge a lot so it’s less of an issue, just me being whiny when ghost hits and ice skates seem to happen often. Also more of an enemy issue then, just noticed a bit more on zealot.

Yeah have been spoiled for Regen with bees. Used it like pre rework, barely touched the soulfire or shooting build so could try those. Just icing on my overall issue with being outgunned many times by vets.

We already have custom loadouts we can choose from in the mission startup? I know weapons and curios and even perks can be changed, but there’s already a feature like that already? Was thinking of building a few talent loadouts you can just switch between easily in the lobby, if it’s already a feature then duck me I’m blind.

Thanks for reading my word vomit and ramblings.

I haven’t used toughness on cleave in a long time, but it does have a cooldown of 1.5sec IIRC so it may not be as effective as it looks on paper.

My builds tend to use Chorus and/or Inexorable Judgement, so I can’t comment too much on the specifics of Martyrdom - I don’t know how strong the TDR it provides is. Shield of Contempt and the DR on dodge talent on the right branch below auras are nice (although the former requires you to get hot to proc).

What ranged weapon do you use? If you have the braced autogun, Run and Gun is very useful to just make shooters much less of a threat once you are over the required stamina threshold (I use a +3 stamina curio so that’s rarely an issue). I forget what other weapons have Run and Gun, but Ghost is an alternative on the more accurate weapons - requires a little more skill to activate and has a short duration though.

Additionally, depending on preference, you can get +Toughness curios.

You should be able to swap your loadout in the lobby in exactly the same way you can on the Mourningstar. If you haven’t created loadouts yet, there’s a small button at the top right of the inventory to create a new one (which will be a copy of your current loadout).

One thing to note is that if you are changing talents, you should close the inventory to save changes - swapping to the Equipment/Cosmetics tab will undo talent changes. I’m not sure if there is a bug report for it, so I should probably create one if there isn’t :joy:
