This is the most perfect weapon i had so far

Before you ask - I tested this thing.
Headshot CAN heavy stagger a crusher on damnation
Man… i grinded for it 400 hours… but i love this one

Also… it can one shot maulers on full charge headshot under “Focus Fire”

congrats - it’s pretty rad

You find Falter is better for it than whatever the aim crit chance blessing is?

They gave the reason for that: it seems to stop crushers. Which is neat actually. Although I’d build it differently I see the fun in this.

I understand that. I was asking if they think that’s worth trading the crit chance blessing for.

Uh… no?
I already can one shot maulers. Even if i crit on crusher = it does not much. If i do 2 crit headshots, i kill them. Other wise i need to 4 full charge headshots to kill them
So staggering them is better

I don’t want to wait for 2 seconds before shooting

Also… this crit headshot can stagger plague ogryn??? That was unexpected

I personally enjoy Surgical entirely due to these being considered Lasguns so you can take the free ammo perk and literally never stop shooting, which is nice.

(I run around with a III though, so for sure changes the feel since I take a bit longer to charge anyway along with doing high damage to armor. Can easily see this being a lot more fun of a ‘scrapper’ variant that doesn’t care about the ammo consumption and just dumps shots and slays things).

Ah, that’s nothing. Look at this incredible out-of-the-box knife I got.

Ohh I’ve stared at Falter often but never realized it can do that! This sounds like a really fun idea!

One thing i probably should clarify
It works on SECOND fully charged headshot you make
And that’s why Onslaught is good here. Considering that i got charge thing at 80%. It becomes a matter of shooting heads. If there are 3+ crushers = i constantly switch targets after each stagger
Probably (IDK fir sure but this is my suspicion) if i had stopping power at 80%, i would be able to stagger them with one shot, because stagger is pretty long after second shot

Ok so… idk what to say but I re-blessed 3 different Helbores to Falter IV for testing this out on psykhanium, and it didn’t work. These are the stats of the weapons used:

Helbore Mark Dmg StopPwr ChargeRate Stagger 2:nd Blessing
II 75 80 73 14/20 Onslaught III
I 78 76 65 17/24 Onslaught IV
III 76 79 75 26/36 Surgical IV
  • Stagger = Weakspot or Crit / Weakspot AND Crit both. Note that Helbore III’s WSCrit does more stagger than two non-crit WS hits from Helbore I, so even if Onslaught 3 vs. 4 would have been the difference the HB III should’ve worked.
  • The dmg tables aren’t always reliable however, for example Helbore Secondary Action Carapace dmg has always been wrong as heck. So there is a chance that like dmg, the Stagger values aren’t accurate.
  • I always made sure to cap Onslaught before focusing on the Crusher
  • After the first round of failures I added Exec Stance (+25% dmg) & Marksman passive (+20% Power), both for the +20% Power itself and in case Exec Stance description was wrong and it actually added Power instead of dmg. Since Power affects dmg, cleave & stagger this could’ve made a difference. But there was no change.
  • For the same reason as above, all tests had Precision Strikes (+30% WS dmg), Superiority Complex (+15% dmg vs. elites), Bring It Down (+20% dmg vs. oggies)
  • This was a pretty fast test so I didn’t check out any other targets in particular, just took a few shots against the other elites & specials to get a feel in general and there were varying stagger results there. But most of them died from 1-2 shots anyway ofc.

tldr;
Falter on its own had no effect on T5 Crushers in psykhanium with any Helbore. If you can @Time , would you mind sharing your build on Gameslantern (Build Editor for Darktide - Create your own Darktide Builds - Darktide WH40k - Games Lantern)? I don’t say this because I doubt you, but this does indicate there’s something going on I don’t understand and I’d absolutely love to find out what! :joy:

Some examples of what I might’ve missed:

  • The worse Charge Rate on my HB I could just barely make the difference. With possibly wrong stagger values on weapon details, it could also explain why HB III didn’t work for me either.
  • I missed something or made some mistake, in which case I want to learn better
  • Some talent or something else about your build doesn’t work as described, and is what’s causing the difference. This would be huge and might open up tons of other possibilities! Trust me, this happens in this game more often than one would think.
  • It’s also possible your experiences were from missions, not sterile tests. Since stagger stacks (enemy stagger recovery time = enemy mass vs. stagger strength and frequency), it’s possible that even a few hits from teammates between your 1:st and 2:nd shot could prevent the Crushers from recovering from the stagger, letting the 2:nd shot push it past Crusher breakpoints.

I’d really love to learn what’s going on here!

Here you go… now that i think about it… Maybe it got something to do with rending?

Ok this is odd. So I copied your build assuming it was Marksman’s Focus for that “x% Finesse Power” which I’d always taken to just mean dmg. But it didn’t work.

So I went and bought a ton more Helbore I’s and got lucky to get one with 80 in everything except stability. I upgraded & modded it to Falter IV, Onslaught IV, +20% maniac and +25% carapace. Still didn’t work. Finally moved the nade recharge talents to Marksman and Rending Strikes just in case. And STILL it did not work with ults and all. I even tried it with various charge levels to make sure I didn’t just wait too long between shots and ofc Onslaught and Marksman’s Focus were stacked.

There’s just one possibility left I can think of. My plasma has always been bugged so weakspot hits against crushers esp. in psykhanium don’t actually count as weakspots. Idk why, never met anyone else who had the same problem. But afaik it was about plasma and crushers specifically (and no, not about the bugged rending blessing back in the day it was bugged, not sure if it’s fixed now, all plasmas even unblessed / perked had the same problem). So I guess there’s a chance that it just doesn’t work right for me in psykhanium but would in missions? Idk.

But from my PoV, Falter is useless. Esp with Marksman’s Focus a Helbore I / III just flat out kills anything that could be staggered with 1 shot anyway, and if it doesn’t, it won’t be staggered either. Berserkers included.
