Stopping to smell the roses and search every crevice just isn’t how these games are played though. The game encourages you to move with speed and efficiency, and when you finish the objective and it tells you to get to extract, you need to rush to extract. If you are way out of position then you’re not playing the objectives and they are right to leave you rather than risking the entire run saving one person. And if they are max level, they have no reason to care about whether you survive cause they aren’t there for dockets or xp which are both basically worthless at max level. If everyone else is trying to get to the end of the map, and you’re slowing down the run, you’re wasting their time. The game rewards faster gameplay, VT2 did as well.
it was a group of HARD runners
your job to stay with the group, and its the majority who decide the pace. you might not like it, but that’s just how it is.
personally, I flip between trying to find everything, then remembering it doesn’t matter so I speedrun the level
completing the final objective, they ran off and left me surrounded by enemies
you did an entire mission with them and didn’t see this coming? personally, I never bother with extraction horde and just run past it. if someone gets left behind then they should have been faster
both are valid complaints you have with your teammates, but also a post could be made that “got a join where we constantly had to wait for him to catch up which made our mission take 30 min, then he raged at the end after diving into the extract horde and saying its our fault”
/////////////////
and the second part. you got burnt out, that happens. not the games or the devs fault that you don’t want to play he game anymore. now if you had an issue with performance or crashing or balancing or anything fixable by the devs then sure. but your complaint is
“I don’t want to play the game anymore and its your fault” how are the devs going to fix YOUR taste in games and teammates
Stopping to smell the roses and search every crevice just isn’t how these games are played though.
The game is very clearly designed for people to move at a steady pace as a unit. There are several mechanics that reward that behavior along with exploration. Some people only care about themselves though and make for bad teammates.
Its really not though, while staying together for coherency bonuses is great, a “steady pace” is subjective. The faster you move, the less enemies that get spawned which reduces your chances of failure. I agree that people should stay together, but you should always be pushing towards the goals. If one person wants to break off to gather stuff, they need to understand how to fight solo and how to catch up to the group
And I don’t want to come off as “so and so is playing the game wrong” cause we all have fun differently and some people don’t enjoy things the same way that I do. However, the core design of the game encourages the group to move as quickly as possible to complete the map, this is true of basically any of the A to B horde shooters out there and while playing with pubs, its going to be expected of you.
I’ve got 360 houts played and never seen speed runners in difficulties 3-5. If you’re still playing 1 or 2 you can just make private lobbies if you dont want to chance more speed runners. Matches are still filling up just not in the lobby. Use the discord if you want to form a group using voice comms.
It doesn’t though.
On your first comment? Kinda. The game does require some searching and exploration, if only for ammo and healing. If you bumrush to the end without looking left or right, you are absolutely not playing the game sensibly, no matter how fast clear it. The same can be said for going too slow. If you’re dragging your @$$ and holding everyone back so you can peek into every nook and cranny, you’re not playing very well, or considering your team.
I WAS going slower than the rest… but I was not going slow.
And yes, I saw them running. I wasn’t planning on getting isolated at the last moment, or hovering near the extraction point and trying to be useless.
As for that comment? "a post could be made that “got a join where we constantly had to wait for him to catch up which made our mission take 30 min, then he raged at the end after diving into the extract horde and saying its our fault.”? Several points need to be made here.
One, they NEVER waited for me. Not even a little. They barely slowed down for the various enemies, often running past them altogether which is why I called them ‘hard runners’.
Two, I didn’t ‘dive into the extract horde’. I was away from the extraction door. They swarmed as they usually do. I tried to work past or around them, but since it was only me, they all swarmed me. The choice was die, or try to escape. I managed to escape, if only barely.
Three, I didn’t ‘rage’ at anyone. I just asked ‘no help at all huh?’ after I made it to the dropship. If that’s your idea of ‘raging’, you must play with some really mild people.
As for me getting burnt out: yes. Yes it IS the devs and the producers and the execs in charge of quality and who made the decisions as to if the game was ready to be released fault. How do I figure this? Because the REASON I got tired of playing is the number (excessive) and types (a lot of which could easily have been avoided entirely simply by taking more time to polish the game) of errors, glitches and problems the game has, not just me playing the game.
In my opinion (and opinion is all it is) the reason I got into a team like this at all is because all the type of player I might have run into are just kinda tired of the issues in the game too, and so aren’t playing anymore. One guy even plainly admitted in the comments here that he joins missions intentionally to troll new and lower ranked mission players because the game has so many issues he can’t have fun just playing it normally anymore. If it was just me, then fine. Maybe I need a break from it. But a lot of people seem to feel the same way I do; that the game has enough problems that its just not worth the effort. Do you not think they could work on their product more and make it better?
And commenting here on something you replied to from another commenter. I’m not one to ‘stop and smell the roses’ either. If a game is designed well, you literally have the ‘roses’ shoved under your nose as you play. That’s what ‘immersion’ is. I shouldn’t have to pause to take in the scenery; it should present itself as I play in a way that impresses me AS I play. This game does fairly well with that, and it’s not an issue for me.
I’m not sure if you’re referring to me as one of those ‘bad players who only care about themselves’ as far as the game goes, but I’m hoping not. If wanting the team I’m with to clear the enemies, consider everyone as they work towards the end, and be considerate of each other is me being a bad player… I honestly don’t know what to say. It’s kind of unrealistic when thinking of online at all, but the whole game is designed around these concepts to a point, as you said. Why would me expecting fellow players to see that and at least try to stick within that concept be considered only caring about myself?
require some searching and exploration, if only for ammo and healing
only if you need it, and for a group who runs missions fast then you usually don’t use too much in the way of resources. at least I find I’m only going for ammo 1 or 2 times per mission and healing is just whenever I’m running past a Medicaid
and most descent players can basically nohit up to t4 and even in t5(bit of a copout, but my point stands)
I saw them running. I wasn’t planning on getting isolated at the last moment, or hovering near the extraction point and trying to be useless
so you saw them preparing to leave the area and you didn’t think “hmm, I should move to where they are, or at least get to a safe point” I get that its a heat of the moment thing, but I always hardcamp extract point then run as soon as its open
“As for that comment…you must play with some really mild people”
I was going for a post from their point of view. i always take these posts with a grain of salt and assume that you are giving the hard negative account and exaggerating. same with the “got a join where… saying its our fault.” I’m not saying I would believe either that post or yours, just its the same type of situation
As for me getting burnt out: yes. Yes it IS the devs and the producers and the execs in charge of quality and who made the decisions as to if the game was ready to be released fault
well, the devs don’t really get much of a hand in the way of deciding a release date, its just kinda handed to them.
I do agree that the game should not have launched the way it did. but judging from the fact that you made this post to begin with its well within reason for me to assume that you would have left the game anyways even if it launched in a better state.
ll the type of player I might have run into are just kinda tired of the issues in the game too
yeah, this game is sitting at around 20k on steamcharts atm. players are tired of the bugs and after about a month most have left. that being said, the people you find here are dedicated enough to the game to go to the forums so i wouldn’t take them as the majority. and at this point even if they make the game better the damage has been done and most players will be soured.
as for the ‘type of players’ its 20k people, you are going to find all sorts. and if it really bugs you that much you can force a host by downloading something then stopping it after you start the lobby (you shouldn’t have to do this to host, but its the only way I’ve found)
you literally have the ‘roses’ shoved under your nose as you play. That’s what ‘immersion’
you shouldn’t HAVE to stop, but it should make you want to. that being said in a game like darktide the environment should be secondary to the combat and the combat should pull you out of that pause and keep you going
hence ‘fast pace horde shooter’
If wanting the team I’m with to clear the enemies, consider everyone as they work towards the end, and be considerate of each other
it goes both ways, and the majority always wins.
even if i want to go fast, if my team doesn’t then i have to go at their pace and thats fine
if i want to take the time to find every scip or grim or pickup but my team is going fast and skipping hordes then i have to go with them and thats fine as well
just because you want to take your time and go your pace you have to take them into account, remember, its their game too
was them leaving you at the end to sit in the ship kind of a d1ck move if it was irl, yeah
was you wasting their time by not being with them kind of a d1ck move, yeah
were you both kind of in the wrong and should you have looked at the other perspective, yeah
i don’t want it to come off as me saying that you are a bad person or whatever. its just i see players like you and that squad in every game and you both annoy me. its a “i want to play the game my way and anyone who doesn’t agree or goes against it is literally satan” I’m just jaded to the whole situation so i come off as a bit harsh
I don’t understand how being surprised by this kind of things.
The game is designed around sucking the time out of you. Of course players will try and find ways to prevent that. Before I got tired of this shitshow of a grindfest designed to make me waste my limited free time I was only doing lvl 2 missions because they were the optimal balance between reward and limited chance to fk it up and when I was finding the party of people that just rush through everything not giving a st about shooting this and that I was thanking heavens because this would have been a quick one.
The game is s**t because it’s designed with exploiting the players and their time first, not to be fun.
Fatshark deserve everything that will come their way, I hope this fails so bad that it makes some waves and helps people realize how shitty GaaS are.
It’s hilarious that the people (myself included) has been saying that this design is terrible since the pre-order beta were called out for being just “in need to touch some grass”, and now more and more these topics pops up. You genius that think that complaining about something is bad should REALLY have a f**king reality check. If you don’t complain, you get exploited and abused.
Well, it’s easy for the 3 out of 4 to run away and survive when there is the patsy for the rearguard. Happens here, happens in VT2, happens in VT.
well, even when im playing with freinds and we have a “rear guard”
- you should be conscious of you team and where they are
- you/your team should be looking behind you anyways when you get a chance
- when you’re a rear guard its still your job to stay with your group
- if your team leaves you for dead its still your fault for putting yourself in a situation where you are stuck
there is nearly always a way to get out of a situation where you get left behind by your teammates. does it suck that they did it, yeah.
can you get to the extract so long as you play well, absolutely
- xp/money no tied to how long in mission and at lvl 30 it doesn’t matter anyways
- if you don’t need ammo or healing why explore, crafting resources, crafting not out yet
- hoards/bosses/combat not required to do, you just have to do forced objectives
overall its a hard negative to actually fight enemys when you can just skip them
and speedrunning gets you 20-30% more xp/money per hour than actually doing the mission does
Only problem is the money and exp you get is near worthless or is worthless endgame and the crafting mats are the only thing worth anything.
If you actively grind weeklies in the state they are in I just feel bad for you.
XP and money doesn’t matter, crafting mats do. The game also has event spots where a set number of enemies spawn, take your time and kill them as a group and there’s no threat the rest of the way. People who run away from those and get jumped alone are the players who tend to blow runs.
