The vox transmissions are just fanfiction. Why should we care?

Oh what’s that? There’s this deep and intriguing story about a Wyrmwood agent desperately trying to escape capture as the entire planet rises up from underneath them? Things are getting precipitously worse? There’s hidden, lurking threats which may or may not be hinted at in the vox logs?

Cool, Fatshark. Sounds neat.

Put that stuff in the game.

I’m so, so tired of live service titles pretending there’s a plot when, in reality, the way they are built so frequently precludes them from functionally supporting a good story or vice versa. Halo Infinite made the same mistake of including story in videos, books, online chapters, forum posts, without ever really implememting it into the actual game.

Fatshark’s “story” in Darktide is just mobile game drivel. It’s the cheap text boxes that pop up inbetween starter levels in a gatcha game so there’s some cognitive excuse to get us all to pull the lever again.

I don’t care about vox transmissions so long as they continue to be nearly entirely separate from the game they are supposed to support. They’re just another ad, overpromising something cool that doesn’t materialize, and i’m kinda gettong sick of them the longer Fatshark inexorably draws out whatever the hell it is they’re teasing.

Yes, FS, you guys are cooking. That doesn’t make me any less hungry. Please, for goodness’ sake, add the story of your game into your game and not any and everywhere else.

Edit: Also, those scented candles are an embarassment.

1: they haven’t promised anything in the vox messages. don’t act for a second like these are ads for anything, they aren’t.
2: in-game, our characters don’t know a lot. they’re disposable rejects and noone cares when they die. the vox messages are to let the players hear details going on beyond what our characters would ever learn to better understand what’s going on
3: if you reach much harder to relate this to a gatcha game you’re gonna pull something and i’m already carrying all these console players so i’mma leave you to die.

DT is worse than a gacha game. Gachas have a pity timer for good gear. DT doesnt

You guys complain about everything

Surely they could add in a Vox prompt somewhere on the Mourningstar. It’ll give us something new to do instead of just playing the matches. There’s a few threads here from myself and others on ideas for improvements to the Mourningstar.

I don’t know what constitutes an ad but at the very least it’s a teaser to generate hype.

“The fact the story sucks is because the story sucks.”

It’s a valid complaint imo. If a bit impassioned.

This is literally a thing in other games, people making excuses are just doing that, making excuses.

Hell they could also have the ability to replay cutscenes which we have had since what, the 80s, early 90s?

It’s always the same people complaining about people complaining.

Not true. Our characters are intricately aware of a surprisingly large amount of knowledge and secrets within the imperium. Something average Joe reject couldn’t know or even fathom.

I mean just last round my psyker casually started asking how people feel about the emperor eating the souls of sacrifices to stay alive and everyone was like, ehhh he probably feels bad about it the poor thing. Like wtf!?

Isnt that like the most guarded secret in the imperium? And our rejects were privy to that info?
Doesn’t seem far fetch to get some random vox message if we already get secrets like that.

Would be nice if the mourningstar had more to do than start mission and buy paid cosmetics… Just saying.

Yeah, it would add just a little breath of life to the Mourningstar, maybe even be a step towards having proper communities on it.

Our characters somehow have access to information that has been straight-up restricted by the Administratum going off the voice lines alone.

I agree completely. These things need to be in the game to support the narrative. Why not put a new station/computer in the Morningstar that lets us ‘review transmission records’ or something to that effect? You could have all of these, and the ability to replay cutscenes, dialogue transcripts from missions that unlock as you hear them, information about various enemies that unlock as you kill more and more of them (like Warhammer Online did way back).

There is so much cool extraneous stuff that already exists that could support the story and lore of the game. We just don’t have easy access to it.

These transmission excerpts are really well done. Let me listen to them in game.

Marketing is marketing. Its not an ad in the most traditional sense (eg. a commercial), but the purpose of them is undoubtedly to generate awareness and interest in the upcoming content.

They aren’t ads for the game?

You’re suggesting to me that freely available video content posted to a developer’s youtube page that is supposed to tease upcoming patches or storyline changes isn’t advertising?

I’m really curious to hear you explain what it is, then, and why they made those logs.

… or library card to Black Library.

every psyker knows about the souls being fed into the golden throne, it’s psychicly LOUD. and given the voicelines of the three psyker voices i’d say everyone’s used to them saying blatantly crazy stuff that isn’t real.

Official Fanfiction from Dan Abnett?!

I read in the Forum that its a waste of Money… :joy:
Well they already paid the Man for doing Lore on the Game. I reckon he wrote the Conversations aswell, prolly with the Team of FS that is responsible for it!

When you hear the Vox and play the Game, especially in the new Level theres a lot of Storydriven Conversations behind it.
More so than on any other Map. Dont forget we just “arrived” at being a reliable Soldier for Grendyl.
We gained his trust just about now. Why would he or anyone else telll us more. (Need to know Basis!)

But in the new Map, we are included in much more deeper stuff regarding anything that happens around Atoma.
Im sure the more Maps we get from here on out, the more we gonna “Uncover”.
I feel like this is a Natural Progression of how i or some othere would do in the position of a Inquisitor or his trusted Retinue.

Dont forget, we had a Traitor Scum inside the Ship, so why spill out every detail to low ranking Acolytes or such

So we are “Proven Acolytes” now. Still we dont need to know anything. BUT WE GET THERE!
The trusted are :
Seargent Major Morrow
Explicator Zola
Flight Lieutenant Masozi
Techpriest Hadron Omega 7-7
Shipmistress Brahms
Commodore Alice Hallowette
Psyker Sefoni
Interrogator Rannick
Mara Vinci
Chirurgeon Oskar Krall
Sire Melk

MOST Trusted (probably):
Seargent Major Morrow
Explicator Zola
Techpriest Hadron Omega 7-7
Shipmistress Brahms
Interrogator Rannick
Sire Melk

I mean, there’s a whole another community of people who listen to those Voxes, those who, for example, dedacted that there will be a Tyranid enemy type, which is kinda cool.

That community is very far and alien to the people who only play the game, and they are indeed getting more of lore and stuff, but they are nothing more then just bits and giggles.

But I would say that these Voxes are indeed just like Logs in any other videogames, which you usually find in form of books or some discs.
I believe that Fatshark did what they did solely because of lore reasons(we are reject and piles of poop and nothing and f-in air that should not be breathed), so we could still enjoy the funnies of logs and lore stuff.

In conclusion, I do not care, nor should you, this is indeed just funnies.

iMHO getting any idea about Nids from Voxchatter is kinda fetched.
On one hand you could say YES, because " Something is stalking me in the Dark, i have to switch positions often" or so the message goes.
This can relate to Chaos perfectly aswell. If you read any 30k or 40k Books for that matter, Chaos comes in many fdifferent forms. It doesnt need to be fully manifested to make disturbances.
In that Case it definetly is, i guess, but still. All the Horrors Humanity imagiend exists in the Warp!

Moebian 6th is Chaos Undivided as i understand due to Chaos Symbols ( 8 Ways/ Manifold) whatever you wanna call it. So there is lots of possibilities. The Dregs are a Nurgle Cult, but Chaos tends to work together from time to time when it suits them or there is a Great Leader (Wolf?!) that Unites them.

What is sure is that Player Characters talk about 2nd Hive City and about Seargent Major Morrow being there at one point and fighting Nids!
That is the most obvious about Nids as it goes. Surely we will have a DLC about 2nd Hive City ^^
