The Skitarii / admech request archive

I’ve been fulfilling my Adeptus Mechanicus needs by being a void-rated engineseer in Space Engineers.

Steam Workshop::Tech Priest Player Character | 40k Manufactorum (steamcommunity.com)

“There’s nothing stopping me shoving five nova cannons into the prow of this thing if there’s enough space and the hallowed powerplant can take it.”

Dang!

This is how I’ve been doing it. Gonna paint and do final assembly over this weekend hopefully.

You make me think of past dreams of a game mode with armor.

I recently stumbled upon oipinion on reddit that skittari in darktide is no go due to lore reasons, no explanation added. Is this true? can somebody explain, please, can it work from lore perspective, and if not - why?

I was gonna write a longer response, but I don’t feel like rehashing in universe lore arguments.

Bottom line is this:

In the VT2 games Bardin was actively acknowledged by another character in a lore post as having been a slayer one day and an ironbreaker or something the next day. This is almost completely impossible without a quick “lol tzeentch did it”.

Hell, in-game Sienna went from having X levels in pyromancer to X levels in necromancer, kind of a hard sell outside of something like divine intervention in D&D.

Darktide by comparison has a lot more viable, lore abiding ways to make mechanicus player characters happen.

TL;DR

There is a precedent; if they want it to happen, it will happen.

IT can absolutely work. Just write around the problems. I have my ideas on that above, but any will work. Just write in any excuse you like best.

it can work and lore reasons isn’t really the problem
it’s just that probably would take a lot

considering classes in vt2 had some slow down too when releasing them, especially last one of sienna

Somewhat, if they want to keep the Reject/Penal Squad.

Skitarii don’t have much freedom, so they would not likely become Convicts (and rather kept but with harsher Mind slave programs.

As for Tech Priest (Member of the cult that are really taught it’s secret), those also wouldn’t be possible as Reject/Convict.

This mean there are 2 ways, either not make them Convict/Reject (Voice lines problems) or making them Tech Cultists/Adepts…, basically start them low enough that the Admech doesn’t care about them, but high enough that as they build trust, they would be trusted with the maintenance and use of Admech weapons.

While the career change (except the VT1 to then the Premium career) are mostly non-cannon, her becoming a Necromancer isn’t mechanically impossible, the iffy part is Saltz’s allowing it (Yes I know of the Lhoner’s journal, but even after that).

There’s still options there. One is that they are malfunctioning. Another is they were the servants of someone who was busted, like a xenarite.

They are taken offline as broken machines would be, and intended for recycling/decommission, but instead end up within reach of the inquisitorial war band, which seizes them for use in this conflict and recommissions/repairs them.

I have this linked in the main post, but this had a lot of ideas on what it could read like:

In either case the Skitarii would be scrapped to recuperate the augmentics.

Picking ‘Skitarii’ or Tech Priest is really just increasing the difficulties compared to Tech Adept, while not really being able to bring anything to the table that wasn’t achievable.

Kinda like of they did the Veteran, but had named it Scion or Stormtrooper, could it have worked, yes, but it’ll be much weirder (though both ‘Skitarii’ and Stormtrooper could be names for 1 of the branch, being what the Reject become as they grow into the Inquisition)

Personality wise you can still have some more military minded Tech Adepts, or some that aren’t and are more about other aspects of the Admech.

That’s the point. They are about to be scrapped, but don’t because Grendyl.

Thus “rejects.”

I mean, it’s like saying “Grendyl can’t have a convict warband because the convicts would be sent to prison.”

Except they aren’t sent to the outside where they could realistically be picked up.

All 4 Reject arche were picked in the Tancred Bastion, which is a transport barge of the Penal System.

On the other hand, Tech Priest and Skitarii would be dealt on the forge world they’re on. In the internal cell.

While Tech Adepts would be able to be dealt on the outside, in the Penal system.

And again, picking Tech Priest or Skitarii is like picking Scion/Stromtrooper instead of Veteran, or Bullgryn instead of Ogryn.

Restricting the archetype by picking a specific name doesn’t really increase the wealth that the archetype could have.

Skitarii would basically mean gating out everything that isn’t a Skitarii, be it Personalities (Where now each have to be Skitarii), abilities (Servitor and Guardian Skull aren’t used by Skiterii)…

It’s really just picking a more difficult name without any reason.

That’s not salvaging your argument against Skitarii, which literally was the same as “Grendyl can’t have a convict warband because the convicts would be sent to prison.”

Also, there’s precedent. In Cain’s Last Stand there’s a joint inquisition/admech BASE where they are researching a weird artifact of xeno origin (Actually from the ancient/ctan war) and the Inquisition’s head of security is working hand in hand with a Skitarii officer and Skitarii are present with hellguns to defend the base.

So no, it’s not even a ‘new concept.’ It’s got precedent.

Ok so you want Skitarii/Admech force not as Reject (narrative wise) but as allied force (still player controlled).

If it’s a DLC FS can simply have the admech class arrive by shuttle and skip Tancred as most players would have done all that with the core classes already.

The class would have to be of the same social status as the rejects or none of the existing dialogue and cutscenes would make sense. So yes, some sort of indentured tech adept that can specialise as they advance rather than a vanguard or sicarian or whatever.

But there are still the connotation of Rejects, inside missions, it’s how they are referring to the players.

And while yes, you could not do a Reject from the Admech, but you could take the easy road and do it. Picking Tech Adept doesn’t remove anything that Skitarii could do, it add around it, should one of the Branch basically be themed around Skitarii stuff, yes, but the other 2 could benefit from being able to lean on other thematics.

Like the Servitors drivers, Electro Priests, Acuitors assassins…

Picking Skitarii is more fun, and you lose nothing, not even the regect angle, as you have them headed to the scrap heap and being diverted.

Would much rather tech adept to skitarii if it means more gameplay options, but I will take what I can get at this point.

We all feel that way, deep down. There just isn’t enough content in what is otherwise a danged good game.
