Following the latest patch, Crushers spawn in reduced numbers but have higher health (like all other elites).
This is fine.
However, if there’s even just 1 veteran on the team, these Crushers might as well not exist. EVERYBODY and their mother takes Demolition Stockpile and Demolition Team. With 3 kraks on hand and probably 2 more in the next 20 seconds, there are no spawns of Crushers (in AURIC!) a single veteran cannot delete in a matter of seconds. There’s zero thought or skill involved.
You might as well not care about whether your build can take on Crushers ; it’s pointless to invest resources in that because a Veteran will just delete them in 5 seconds. And everybody in QP uses that Vet build because it’s just 2 talent points ! Smack dab in the middle of the tree !
And, to make it worse, when there happens to be no Vet on the team, people have no idea how to not die immediately when faced with 2 crushers! In AURIC!
its also equally as easy to grab the single stamina modifier node you need for achlys 6 to ascend to chaos god tier. with all the crit damage coming out the ying yang and the current lack of upper damage limit on finesse or whatever ridiculous nonsense is to blame there is no need to even do this. not that the krak buff isn’t spectacular in its own right and still worth it just for mass damaging the bulwark blob. just get like 30% crit chance by running desperado + 5% crit chance on your weapon, and then ruin crushers with crit push attacks. I am in love with the new bolt pistol for making a melee only vet loadout just gross. any time you think you won’t be able to block cancel activate and swing just dump a bolt pistol round into something in your face for some AoE stagger.
Making kraks the only viable damage grenade because they’re now so insanely fast and damaging compared to shredder frags is certainly a choice that was made.
On the one hand they might be too good yeah. On the other hand considering how many weapons get hard cucked by new crusher HP, what’s it’s doing for Vet weapon variety is probably hard to overstate.
Wanna play caxe, taxe, heavy sword or claw sword and don’t particularly want to be forced into taking one of the handful of guns that can passably deal with crushers? Cool bring a laspistol for combined boss dps/sniping and you can still have a well rounded kit with kraks.
I’m not saying that justifies their current power level, but I do think it’s something to consider.
What changed with shredders that made them suddenly unviable?
Even pre-update they didn’t kill Crushers and Bulwarks on their own, their strength was stunning big packs of enemies and having great horde clear, which was unmatched unless you played melee Vet with weapon speciliast and power sword.
Kraks are now only better in Havoc, because of absolutely absurd Rotten Armor modifier where Crushers take almost no damage outside of melee, and kraks being still one of the few things that can oneshot them with Grenade Tinkerer.
But even during Havoc 2.0 early days, Kraks were already better than Shredders in Havoc, considering Garden outheals their bleed, there’s no point in stunning Red enemies, Kraks stick to Rinda Karnak’s armor if thrown directly at her and can also stunlock Weakened bosses until they die.
Nothing. This is just an upset tryhard whining that there isn’t only one way to deal with crushers and that is a Sweat Lord Approved ™ meta-weapon.
Never mind that any veteran “spamming” krak grenades is 90% certain to also have stuffed demolition stockpile, grenadier, grenade tinkerer, and demolition team into their build. Four talent points (5 if you count krak grenades themselves) to delete one crusher or maybe a pack when Obesetuna’s lack of collusion between mobs results in their stacking up. So 5 talent points vs. a dueling sword or knife that anyone but an Orgyn (maybe Arbites - actively repressing that “content”) can pick up.

Haven’t seen a single person mention it was a skill-less playstyle back when everybody and their momma only ran Shredders, because it was “meta”.
You guys are missing the point and putting words in my mouth. And why are you comparing it to Duelling sword when noone has brought it up here ? I’m not saying that the super meta builds using DS to one-shot or two-shot Crushers are perfectly OK ! That’s not what I meant by “investing resources in being able to deal with Crushers” ! I mean stuff like Brittleness blessings, Trauma staff, +Rending talents etc.
My problem isn’t that “waa waa they’re not using ranged or melee like me to deal with Carapace”, I’m not a 6-year old child.
The thing is that when Vets invest just 2 talent points in Kraks (and that’s not a huge sacrifice), then suddenly other people don’t really get to interact with Crushers and Bulwarks. A single grenade will easily kill 2 of these when they’re close together, just like they could before their health buff.
Just consider Vermintide 2’s Chaos Warriors ; the Shade can one-shot backstab ONE about once every 45 seconds. The Bounty Hunter can use Locked and Loaded to kill ONE about every 30 seconds. And they sacrifice a lot of survivability or horde-clear to do that.
You’re trying to convince two people who just made stuff up to be mad at and disregarded the entire conversation in order to do so. The real problem is now the fuse length on shredders is so much longer than kraks that having shredders feels so so much worse than how quickly kraks kill things, but they just invented some stuff to argue against because idk i guess it’s their hobby.
Kraks’ fuse was shortened because in most cases teammates killed Crushers before it could detonate. If you can’t understand that or have not witnessesed this live, that means I was right about below-average player complaining about a niche novelty, the same thing happened when Kraks were first introduced.
Crushers and other elites have had their health pool nearly doubled. Do you really think that still stands true now ? Not counting crazy stuff like Scrier Psykers with DS4 with Precognition, Uncanny Strike and Disrupt Destiny at full stacks ?
Always nice to get an ad-hominem argument from a self-assured guy who just assumes that people weren’t aware that Kraks’ fuse was too long. I never complained about that buff specifically.

It is the reason why “vet delete crushers too fast”. Extra capacity barely matters because otherwise Kraks would be wasted most of the times. Anyway, the first post sums up the thread very well:
Things have changed, now as Veteran, no way I can melee a crusher, or am staying all day scrapping his beard off and giving him a new look rather than killing it, and with how game is dynamic and quick moving, I am forced to spam Krak on Crushers now, also with their Higher HP, i cant remove multiple crushers at once, unless someone cheeses them together with any CC ability.
yeah now need to tend to use all grenade nodes , because this is only way i can deal with crushers. or waste ammo , and in the year of 40,000, there is only ammo scarcity.
Don’t kraks have kill flags for crushers? Should work without grenade tinkerer, and frankly I think it is alright. It is a total of one monsti/captain/crusher/bulwark (squad) in a minute/ 50s. Unless you play with a very strong vet on a low diff there should be plenty stuff to kill. It is the same like purga psyker, where you don’t have to hit hordes anymore - a very specialised setup.
