?? 4080 released 2022 5080 scheduled for q1 2025
given varying availability thats 2 1/2 years.
keep in mind from 1994 on i bought a new rig after 2 years at the latest
IF a rig made it that far it usually had a new gpu after 1 year to make it last.
first quake 1 rig in 1996 had a matrox mystique card for 400dm (guess around 300
at the time) and needed a diamond monster accelarator card instantly for only then i found out the matrox wasnt the best “gaming” gpu but for photoshop stuff and gl quake needed the monster to get 30 fps at 800x600
so we hopped the train to the next bigger city that sold them (was 16 at the time so no car) and got me the diamond monster for 300dm
30fps glquake goodness at the starting area and life was good again ![]()
only two pc’s in my lifetime lasted longer than 3 years
my 2004 doom3 rig with nvidia 680 sli mode for i didnt play any other games than the current id-tech
and
the i7 8700k with the 2080 cause i refused to pay 2400€ scalping prices for a 3080 at the hight of covid.
since 94 thats the only ones. every lan party i had a new rig to make sure hardware wasnt an issue at the tournament.
on the other hand i dont buy “unecessary” stuff and got shirts older than most of people around here
,not interested in “vacations” either so most of my funds are available for my hobby.
