The Drastic Decrease of Quality Players!

that’s what i’ve been ranting about too, people on autopilot.

Man, this is SO painful to watch, as I can totally relate to this situation - exactly at this spot too.
During missions where one has to do more “complex” objectives in order to progress - I just assume we are all going to die, because having players coordinate and prioritise properly is not a given at all. This entire thread in fact, is painfully relatable.

Most of the time when there is a strike team wipe, the reasons for it are so ridiculously obvious; zero cohesion, zero PTFO’ing when needed, zero strike team synergy, zero apparent understanding of how to do the bare fundamentals of the game mechanics, type dodging muties, hounds, trappers, not bullrush into the open away from the team to get firing squad’ed to death etc.

I could go on for 10 000 years.

Playing with randoms in all over auric, maelstrom and havoc alike is like going to a casino with a 1% chance of winning. I have been blessed enough to have had two strike team experiences in Havoc thus far where the others aren’t playing as if they had never played the game before (maybe a bit blunt to say, but I overexaggerate for dramatic effect here).

Makes it feel like level 40 is on another unreachable planet…

This is so true. I feel True Level means nothing to me.

I have been in strike teams with players upwards of lvl. 800 and they played like complete clowns. Heck, even had a lvl. 1000+ player in a Havoc mission and he was the culprit by miles!

I mean overall I agree. Using True Level for prejudice over others is just bad form anyway, and I’ve seen plenty of people under 100 play very well, and others over 500 just … not. But since Havoc the average level has gone way down from the idk ~50-200 into barely 30+, and this time it really shows on their skills too.

But yee like I said imo it’s actually fantastic since it makes those games way more interesting and fun. And so far I’ve yet to run into the combo of both really bad & really toxic - you know the kind who don’t carry their weight and then also blame everyone else for it. As long as I don’t get those, I’m happy.

I hard carried a hi stg on enclavum barros the other day with my purgatus psyker and the veteran on my teammates threw one grenade all game and was shooting crushers in the face with a XII lasgun and the ogryn on my team had a cleaver and no way to deal with crushers either so I had to kill them all, lucky for me I had a deimos and soul blaze. Funny thing is they dont even understand how hard youre carrying them. I mean the fact that penance points has made it so that we have to carry sedition and low intensity malice players with horrible unoptimized gear every game is mind numbing and beyond annoying at this point. It really just makes me not want to play the game at all. I mean I bet I had like 50 brain burst kills and like 15 crusher kills that game.

I felt like I was doing 90% of the killing that game while managing all of the threats. Never mind the constant revolving door of horrible players leaving and other noobs joining. Honestly I dont really have fun playing this game at all right now because 98% of my games are filled with people who have no idea how to play darktide, or craft, or build. The fact that noobs have infiltrated every single difficulty of this game including havoc and it is a constant thing really makes me not want to play this game anymore.

I feel you

Yes, gentlemen… It seems we have a lot of these kinds of stories to tell. I can say this… I will NEVER play with randoms again, literally NEVER again, I’m done. Only pre-mades for this guy from now on… It’s more fun that way anyways you meet new people & you don’t have to sweat as much carrying anybody. Everybody is at least competent in how to play. That’s how I got through the toughest maps/modifiers on Havoc. I strongly feel that Farshark needs some kind of overhall & rework of their tutorials from the Psykhanium or elsewhere. A lot of this “training” doesn’t seem very intuitive enough in my eyes like there’s so much more that’s missing here I’ve learned later on just from experience playing. Just a more in-depth how to tutorial. There’s Youtube, sure… But I feel like it should be apart of the game at the very least. So many people don’t understand the core combat mechanics & general play, plus also the objectives sadly enough. I’ve literally found myself doing them alone most of the time which is nutty. I feel that newer players or even people that play occasionally could learn from something like this. I’m not saying this out of spite or anger. I just want players to be at their best, so that they don’t get carried & can be independent. Because if 80-90% of the time we wipe just with randoms which is massive af. There’s a huge problem with the players lately & something is not getting across here. I just want something done about it. I don’t want people getting frustrated & quitting the game because of the large crappy player base who’s not knowledgeable enough at Darktide. Knowledge is truly the key here & I think it’s lacking, so that’s why people are sucking because they don’t understand sht about the game.

I only got the game a few weeks ago. I’ve sunk quite a few hours in V1 and V2 though.

When I started I just did difficulty one to get a feel for the game, know the specials and my abilities. Steadily staid on difficulty 2 and only went into Malice when I was about level 26.

The second char I went straight into difficulty 2, then into Malice around 22. Etc. Started doing Herecy when I got good gear and found Malice becoming too easy. I’m not even thinking about Damnation before I got all classes up to Herecy and notice I’m starting to carry. I see no reason to rush into Havoc.

Now I’m levelling Zealot last and I get into Malice at around 20 and boy… It’s full of level 8 Playstation players who hoover up all ammo, put med crates down just before a drop point and shout into the mic to get them up. At this point I just leave them. I’m not going to risk anything to get them up.

You know what’s really toxic? This Reddit mentality that you’re supposed to babysit anyone who comes into your game, no matter how bad they are.

Also, can we please disable crossplay?

Speaking of below T5 difficulty…

After the itemization update dropped, my friend decided to return to the game (he still didn’t like it lol), and since he has only one lvl 30 class and pretty outdated gear, we just played normal and event Heresy. And I gotta say, Heresy was full with not only “bad” players, even though people on T2 and T3 handle themselves much better, but also with people who intentionally grief and troll.

In one game session (around 3 hours) I’ve seen:

  • People running into DH and attacking it with melee light attacks or something. One guy in particular attacked DH, died, and then raged that we didn’t help him and started ruining on purpose (refused to go forward, “teabagged”, etc).
  • Two guys (veterans) who were in party set up a “defensive position” at the very first section of the map and just stood there and shot enemies. This was clearly a troll so we left.
  • One player shot barrels and poxbursters to TK other players. No, it wasn’t an accident, he waited until someone was about to push the burster or walked near a barrel and shoot at them.
  • And also countless cases or hogging ammo, wasting and not deploying packs, not healing or wasting healing, etc.

That felt surreal at some point.

Talking with a friend about this issue, we shot around a few ideas. Really we were trying to think about if there is an effective way to gatekeep certain difficulties (Auric, Maelstrom, Havoc at certain levels, etc).

The idea is pretty simple: what if there were challenge trials that you needed to complete on your own in order to be cleared for certain types of missions.

We realized the psychic test chamber is really underutilized but could have a series of challenges or trials added to it that not only let you test different situations, but could also be used as a bit of a skill check. Note - the “creature spawner” mod was updated to include various “waves” you could spawn and challenge yourself to clear - so it would be similar to that.

There could be some item/gear specific challenges, some survival/damage avoidance challenges, scenarios where you’re surrounded and need to push your way out. Could be opportunities to explain & teach some of the more nuanced mechanics that are important for survival on higher difficulties.

OP doesn’t understand it’s not a decrease but an increase of trash players using controllers in a FPS requiring agility and fast 180° rotations.

Flick Stick + Gyro Aim FTW.

I’m trash with a controller - BUT - I can at least hold my own and more importantly SEE how a Flick Stick + Gyro setup could work wonders in a game like DT where the fast 180’s and precise aiming are both needed.

I sync’d my Nintendo Switch controller to my PC and setup this sort of configuration and it wasn’t bad - and infinitely better than a normal controller method.

Someone needs to make a controller where you have the thumb sticks on the front and vastly more buttons on the back. Your palms can hold the controller, and your fingers could be freed’d up to access a lot more buttons.

This is amazing:

IIRC there was a reddit dude who posted a gyro (yum!) controller video and it was pretty good. It’s painful to watch people play this game play on regular controller, it’s…not great.

Apparently the aim-assist is rather meh too? Not being able to easily rebind stuff like single bind dodge and jump seems to be a thing too, see in-game bunny-hop dance then downs.

I never used my 5th slot, I rolled a new character and played that instead.

Also the person saying flick stick and gyro aim is pure cope, its been proven multiple times that Mouse and Keyboard are superior for the genre with only a slight advantage for the M&B over controller when being played by the absolute best, and you ain’t it.

That’s such a good idea. It kind of reminds me of the Batman Arkham series where you could load up a simulation and if you got hit once it just stops immediately until you restart.

The tutorials in Darktide are truly abysmal. I can’t always be mad at “bad” players since the game never explains so many important things.

Could be Martyrdom Ogryn, everyone knows if an Ogryn maxes out his curios on wounds he gets infinite ammo and extra spicy rations.

Immortality for the goodest boy on Atoma.

Extra rations that are spicy, or rations that are extra spicy?
Either way, Martyr Ogryns put the “ab” in abomination.

It certainly doesn’t help, but someone dropping a med pack because they are captured by a trapper twice while everyone else is full health has nothing to do with controller.
