The Book of Grudges: May Each Be Struck in Time

a week are you mad? no way FS manage to fix a single pothole in a week

Steam I can sort of get, those forums are almost always unhinged from what I’ve seen, but their own official forum? That makes absolutely no sense. Not to ascribe the worst possible intentions here, but I can’t shake the feeling that the overall critical tone these forums take is a big part of the reason. Not that that justifies it, if anything that criticism is what they should most enthusiastically listen to.

I’m sort of taken aback by how many different ways FS finds to just do the worst thing in the worst way, even now. This seems like such a simple and obvious concept, but… yeah…

Try to find the forums for War of the Roses and War of The Vikings.

Two tales of woe, both scrubbed from history. Guess those Forums weren’t important enough to archive. Guess this one won’t be, either.

Looking at how grudging past updates have been on the RNG, it might just be that.

Some dev or middle management type can’t take the heat from their poor decisions, and so everything gets locked down here. They know they’ll be rigorously held accountable for anything they say, so they say nothing.

they probably open’d the forum when they were still small ambitious but now after they sold their souls have noticed that it actually takes time and work without any (direct) profit
so they let it vegetate and do the bare minimum that is required to not lose face

Yeah I really can’t think of any other explanation than this currently. It’s like they’re addicted to skullduggery. Just tell the truth and make sure that the truth is something that wont bother any normal or reasonable person. I get that that’s easier said than done, but it’s the only righteous path really.

Not really working too well though is it, eh?

Criticism is what improves design. It’s what lead to ‘Kingdom Come: Deliverance’ - fun story about that, creator wrote a post bemoaning Skyrim and mainstream RPGs a decade ago. Instead of just constantly crying about it he instead put his money where his mouth was and made a better game:

Taking criticism is a fundamental virtue that one must accept.

It takes wisdom to understand that when someone critiques, or gives negative feedback, they are not doing so from a place of hate.

You’re preaching to the choir but hear hear. Send that in a letter to FS HQ and maybe they’ll read and understand it. It could become our new avenue for change. We’ll overwhelm them with physical mail carrying our critiques. Do 'em Hogwarts style.

well, actually it is working well,
its easy to be a fan and say “the game could have been so much more”

But FS always in every interview or any other medium i’ve seen has proudly proclaimed that the game has met expectations, and therefore is a success.

Frankly i think they aimed to make investors happy, and they did, how their players feel is secondary really.
We see the bigger picture, we argue that happy players means more profit, we argue that’s a win-win situation.

But investors and the FS suits look at it realistically, does it meet the bottom line? Did it out gross prediction

I believe it. It’s the sickness of our age. It’s a culture of min/maxing and money is the only metric worthy of consideration. It’s why every modern building looks like a shoebox, why every new movie is a remake, why every game is an uninspired and unfinished mess and so on and so forth.

The current and previous generation has slid down the slippery slope at mach speeds.

I remember getting belittled back then, when I got mad about the horse armor and people buying it “for the lulz”.
Fact of the matter is though, that most people don’t realize they’re getting cooked when it’s happening slow enough. We’re at a point where shipping a barebone shell of a game, well placed interviews promising the sky and preorders are enough to get a large enough dose of initial sales. The rest is taken care of by the few thousand brain damaged whales that’ll buy anything regardless. So long as fiscal predictions are met, nothing will change.

Man this reminds me how much I despise paypiggies. They’re both a symptom and the root cause of the absolutely horrible state of gaming.

well it takes two to tango

as long as people continue to buy into these lazy excuses of media they don’t get to complain if you ask me.

I’ll never get over how awful the original payed horse armor looked.

They’re also the biggest defenders of these faulty products too. Usually you can see them defying all sense of rationale by jumping through hoops, back flipping, then catapulting into the stratosphere in an attempt to rationalize a lackluster release.

Anything to remedy that mild dose of buyer’s remorse I guess.

Keep in mind you could mod hundreds of armors into the game back then.

This entire debacle was mostly carried by xbox players. Thanks lads.

Sunk cost fallacy with a dash of ‘look how SPESHUL’ I am.

I have a theory that your average whale is generally a very bad player that wasn’t able to unlock the hardest cosmetic rewards in older games, hence the coping mechanism.

I hate that it feels like the devs are saying “we dont care about console players *spits” one example is when it comes to QOL mods.

The statboard should be added from VT2 (its a joke that it still isnt in the game) and have a toggleable setting to opt-in or opt-out of showing your stats at the end of matches. (For the weird ppl that think its a bad thing) Its such a basic feature to any game of thus genre and the devs come accroess as “oh well theres a mod for it so we dont have to do it” this goes for other mods ive seen ppl with that console players and even ppl that dont like dealing with mods will never get to experience and benifit from. Like the see your rank past 30 mod a simple little thing but its cool to know i had a pc player tell me mine and i wish i could see it for all my characters.

Console just have to wait and hope to get basic features? Or wait until enough ppl complain so much that they realise they should do something about it, but they know ppl wont complain because pc have the mods so they dont bother complaining and use a work around not everyone has access to so nothing will be done.

Another reason it feels like this is with the current performance issues that came with the pennance update xbox performance is terrible and nothing is being addressed or mentioned. I saw a reply to a pc performance post from a fatshark memeber on how to get a pc work around or some beta server download idk to make the game run better. so what about console? "Shud up spits - devs is how it feels and alot of ppl i played with have wuit and want to onky come back when the performance is fixed. its never been perfect on console even before the update anyway lol.

Darktide is on gamepass but feels like this console community is just being neglected so why even have it on there.

yeah i will never understand the “im fine in paying premium, as long as it helps the devs” argument with any big studio, we have several accounts of ceo’s being the worst scum like bobby kotick
or leaked recordings of them talk about their customers as sheep (I’m putting it lightly)
it goes even so far that there are educational courses on how to ripoff your fans and how to aim hook AND CREATE whales

im sorry to burst your bubble, but some of these CEO’s get laid off with a premium that could have paid the entire staff of the studio for multiple years, and you think your patronage is going into the longevity and betterment of the product?

I agree with that generally but it’s worth considering just how ubiquitous this entire mindset and worldview is and has been for most people. Anyone born after like the 80s will have been inundated with this stuff since birth and have been primed to become the consumerist drones we see today. To simplify it quite a bit, they’ve never been taught to think or look at things in any other way. It takes a lot for someone to not get caught up in all that and most, even us here I’d say, are still to varying extents. Albeit probably less so than the average person.

Hmmm. Y’know, maybe I should run an election campaign? I’ll be the most impartial mod ever! Literally everyone likes me, and the current mods could go back to their discord circle by making me deal with every single flagged message single-handedly. AND, as a bonus, I’ll tell everyone literally everything I know that’s not NDA-locked. So, y’know, probably absolutely nothing at all.

Sounds like a win-win though, right?

VOTE FOR JAYNE 2024!
