The atmosphere of reddit is much better than FS forums

Reddit is for memes and the now infamous “reddit takes”, rarely for serious discussions.

The “true game enjoyers” are usually very green or bad players usually posting clips of awful, awful gameplay moments and very often chock-full of all the cheaty mods the Lua heap can tolerate.

This should tell you something.

How I sleep when heavily downvoted on Reddit:

Only to have the hive-mind come around on the very point I was making some time later.

Nothing better, as they’re sprawled out in their full Havoc drip, title and all, mouthing off in chat, as my goofy ahh auto pistol + catachan sword + smokes setup clears the space and waltzes over to them, and FS’ beautifully written and performed:

“You practicing for when someone shoots you, ‘soldier’?”

Rings out across the field

Post Scriptum: To be fair though, the “repeatedly-going-down” zingers in this game are all brilliant once again; On the subject of Vets, the Maul & Seer one’s stick out in my mind:

“I give up. Leave the Veteran down there for all I care.”
and
“Are you intoxicated, Veteran?”

Classic

I earned mine fair and square without relying on any meta crutches and I’m extremely proud of that.

I miss using Catachan Sword. Although, I’m still not at the point where I’ll resort to using the OPness of Krak Grenades to compensate for Catachan Sword not being good enough against Carapace and Flak anymore since Armoured Enemies collectively got their HP buffed.

I get closer every single day, though…

One of the best decisions Fatshark ever made for the Tide series was to include unique dialogue to address the Players who go down a lot.

Gaming subreddits are mainly people who share a passing interest in a topic. For most there, Darktide will simply be one of many subreddits that appear in their feed.

This is also reflected in the quality of their guidance. On the forums, most players understand the deeper layers of the gameplay mechanics down to the numbers, and even how the game’s code works. They build useful guides and consistently play Darktide, and play it at a high level. On reddit, players find it novel that you can block and dodge. They’re mostly tourists.

I play Vermintide 2, Darktide and a couple other older games occasionally with friends. Almost nothing else holds my interest. I’ll sink 100 hours in Darktide or VT2 for every other hour I put into another game.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a game as an occasional hobby without hyper-focusing on the meta. In fact, I’d say you’re probably more normal than someone who’d take the game seriously enough that they find their score and place on a leaderboard important enough to engrave it on their tombstone as an epitaph. I find raising a family, education, and focusing on developing relationships far more meaningful. I don’t blame you for failing to understand the kind of person who would put all that second to their score in a video game, because I don’t either. But, I kid you not, they’ll proudly tell you, this game is what they care about.

I wouldn’t say reddit or the forums are better. In general, it probably depends on how deeply involved you are with the game. Even just playing this game in my free time occasionally, I can see myself easily putting in up to 3000+ hours. I’m at over 3500 in VT2.

so from which Group are you?!

To be honest, I find it manageable for the most part, whilst still an annoying slog. I’ve got like 2 and a half variations of an Autopistol + Sword build, with my favourite by far being the one with smokes instead of kr*ks  (I believe I posted a generic/combined version from what I could remember off the top of my head on here a couple of months ago in a thread).

Basically to me it all boils down to using the more left-behind-weapons (i.e. our beloved Catachan Sword) alongside rapid fire ranged weapons to try and claw back the satisfaction of melee combat with said options by (ab)using the Onslaught talent. Of course, I don’t believe for one second that I’m the only person who thinks like that, especially here on the forums, but still, I love “synergy”-dumping at times lmao.

Big ol Crusher train making moves? Pepper 'em up nice til they hit say ~20% brittleness, then wail on them with the H>L>L ST combo with serrated blade, hits keeping the brittleness up, bleed ticking away in the background; throw out your parries + followups to make you say “hell yeah” and drop the big boys flat.

Hyper-aggressive plays with hyper-aggressive smoke use with Executioner’s Stance + Autopistol + Catachan Sword is where it’s at for me, and has been for a long time now.

Bliss

Bit of a tangent here:

Summary

Honestly, I even find that it’s still a very different flavour of hyper-aggressive gunplay to a Desperado build, and it’s the one I prefer overall by a large margin, even though I still find Desperado Scum a lot of fun when I run it; I find my Vet setup offers a lot more in terms of strategy and general moment-to-moment gameplay decision-making options than just “Activate Ability - Ignore Bullet” etc.

Further Tangent and I don’t want to derail the thread, but it’s one of the many reasons why a small part of me dies inside when people cry from the rooftops, insisting that Vets are “weak” or “dead” or “replaced by class I don’t like”…

Vets are absolutely clapped, same as always

Funny enough, that even that topic was hijacked to “discuss game balance” :person_shrugging:

The forums are a discussion board, where people write in paragraphs and talk detailed issues, sometimes quite heatedly.

Most of the Reddit content is memes or otherwise low-effort video/image related content (e.g. showing a pic of a Guard powerfist sergreant with a title “vet should get a powerfist” and a single line of text from the poster talking about how they think powerfists are cool without any further depth).

For people that enjoy memes or stream-of-consciousness posts, discussion boards tend to heavily discourage that type of content being posted just for its own sake. A forum like this really isn’t the place to extoll the virtues of a particularly great match you had, that’s just not its purpose.

Likewise, Reddit is a fundamentally terrible platform for the type of content that a Forum serves. The physical formatting and structure is really terrible for in-depth discussions, while the upvote/downvote dynamic rewards a different type of content entirely.

Different platforms for different purposes.

Catachan rocks on vet and psyker. I tend to prefer the one with only sweeping heavies. With a cleave blessing it feels like a budget power sword but with access to movement and parry.

Yes and no. The removal of the two 5% toughness reduction nodes at the top killed them for me. It was all vets needed to be sturdy enough for high havocs. It is absolutely true that they have their iron will, shout and stuff which if played into it makes them very strong but I preferred them better when that was optional.

Playing around game mechanics like enemy suppression, buff management, stagger, blinds, and optimizing movesets is sooo last year bro. We’re all about infinite ammo and cleave now get with the times.

now, first of all if you want to call me out, find the :egg: :egg: to do so by name :joy:

grown ass man here, not gonna lose any grey hair over some fun internet banter.

that statement´s mine and since i know it stuck that long with some random guy from the internet, the idea grows on me even more

that being said i dunno if i even indulge this much further by what seems to have blown some minds already :exploding_head: , failing to grasp the possibility that someone can excel in “both”

and ruling out anything besides the focus on one or more hobbies as “priority” to family life etc.

then again, to me, a man without passion or ambition aint a man at all.

and more often than not they turn into a wallet or doormat when just focusing on “family life” as their sole purpose or “priority” to define themselves.

yep, that truly seems the issue here, cause honestly just being content with being the happy :gear: in the great machinery that’s out there to drain you of your last drop of :drop_of_blood: only to make some random fat nobody up the chain richer, being replaced the moment you kick the bucket and call it a “life”…. i mean sure, some people are (for some odd reason) happy to play the serve or only feel validated if they generate something for others rather than themselves.

if that´s the “normal”, existing and doing your part for “society” until the next worker drone replaces your now corpse starched carcass…. more service for you i guess :man_shrugging:

looking at the true examples like schwarzenegger, tyson, professional musicians etc, you think for one second they´d have bothered with a regular blue collar life ?

then again no one remembers the later after the funeral party goes their merry way, so….

(and no, this was just an example, not putting myself up there with arnold etc., still those people achieved something the faceless masses never did and never will)

aint guinness world records either, aint no one giving you a medal multiplying the human race or get enough smarts (force fed most of the time) to push them wheels they want you to in order to squeeze the max out of your labor.

thats not to say one can not find fulfillment in a happy relationship, as long as he doesnt lose himself or submit fully to an ever nagging spouse, like said above, passion and ambition to fulfill what oneself wants to achieve.

not what others expect or want from you…. see the doormat

the moment you lose your edge you become exactly that, guaranteed.

find a good partner

educate yourself enough to the point you can get the most out of the system that squeezes you of your lifetime with the least effort

and find some few but true friends

how that should be mutually exclusive with wanting to achieve the best in the stuff that is your personal passion eludes me but hey, guess society needs “normals” to keep things going after all

besides, as stated often enough here, this being the darktide forum leave everything else at the door, ingame stuff/performance/experience is all that matters here after all.

dont care if you got 12 side chicks, dont care if you´re prof med something, dont care if you collect people like pokemon and catch em all ( btw thats a psycho or sociopath thing to do? …..mix them up every time when it comes to social manipulation skills  )

now, back to the important thing again that is…. drum roll please :drum:

playing the game, cya

I didn’t really say anything intended to call you out. I was explaining to @Sunmelt that people on these forums are much less casual Darktide players and so our feedback often reflects that. You might have thought the epitaph comment was a dig at you, but you literally said it yourself, and I was only using it as an example of how much more dedicated forum players tend to be compared to casuals on reddit.

I never said you couldn’t excel at both. I wasn’t even addressing you specifically. To me the value I put on my relationships and my family is so far beyond the value I put on games that it’s keenly absurd to me to even consider putting my gaming achievements on a headstone. When you first said that, I thought you were being facetious or messing with me.

A lot of what you said here isn’t really about Darktide. Suffice it to say, I have different views on masculinity and ambition, and I have a lot of respect for people living ordinary lives and doing ordinary work. I’m not interested in arguing the value of blue-collar work or family here.

My original point was about why feedback differs between reddit and the forums: time investment and depth of engagement.

Anyway, enjoy your game.

in which language is calling someone “abnormal” usually a friendly notion…?

aye, and at least I stick with it

like I said, all good here, just some forum banter to pass the time.

Preach!
This is why I hate when devs have an official forum and only actively communicate on Discord or Reddit. Like, cool, those are fine for quick chats and burst style discussions, but they’re terrible for actually relaying information to your players. Titan Quest 2 doesn’t even have official forums, so we use the Steam forums (Emperor protect us), and it’s constantly “devs confirmed on Discord” instead of announcements. One patch had half completed notes that left the community asking if something was a bug for weeks, “devs confirmed it’s intended on Discord” ok, cool, why wasn’t it reflected in the patch notes or the patch notes updated to reflect the change once it was pointed out to be missing?

Fatshark is at least (somewhat) active on their official forums, even if they refuse to comment about Solo Mode
