Issue Description (Required):
Since a few months the game is having serious issues for me concerning the delayed rendering of textures. I play on an rx 9070 xt and have 32gbs of ram so I do not see why I should be having this issue. On top of that I sometimes get rasters/artefacts to pop up instead of textures. What I have tried thus far:
Reinstalled the game
Verified integrity of game files
Dropped texture detail from high to medium
Changed ini-file value of streaming_texture_pool_size to 1536
None of these things have worked. Pictures attached.

Hi Clanking, I’d recommend removing your AppData entirely; please be aware will reset any custom options. Failing that, let me know, and I’ll pop it in to our database.
Step 1: Disable Steam Cloud Saving
If Steam Cloud saving is enabled for Darktide, this may automatically restore the AppData and consequently cause the issue to resurface.
- Navigate to your Steam library
- Right-click Darktide
- Select ‘Properties’
- On the ‘General’ tab, scroll down to ‘Steam Cloud’
- Disable ‘Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’
Step 2: Delete AppData
NOTE: By deleting your AppData, operative loadouts and custom keybindings will be reset. You may wish to make a back-up of the directory in the event deleting your AppData does not work to resolve the issue.
- Press the Windows key + R
- Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
- Navigate to:
AppData\Roaming\Fatshark
- Delete the entire ‘Darktide’ directory
Step 3: Verify Integrity of Game Files
You will then need to use the ‘Verify Integrity of Game Files’ option, which is accessible via the Steam client and will ensure the installation is complete.
- Right-click Darktide in your Steam library sidebar
- Select ‘Properties’
- Select the ‘Local Files’ tab
- Select the ‘Verify Integrity of Game Files’ button
- When complete, close and reopen Steam
Hi Julia,
I have tried the steps you recommended. There seems to be an improvement in the rate at which the problem occurs, I have noticeably less instances of textures not rendering. It did not solve the problem however and blurry textures and texture-artefacts still show up in most games I play. On top of that a new problem seems to occur. I now get seriously lower fps than I used to have. I normally play with the latest version of fsr. I now enabled frame gen to see if that would solve the problem, but it only helped marginally. The screenshot below was taken after implementing your changes, I only changed the following values in the windows-ini file on top of those:
Ray tracing set from true to false
Fullscreen set from false to true
Thank you for your help thus far
Don’t worry, the FPS will improve as the shaders continue to rebuild. I’ll raise your issue to our database, in the meantime we may uncover a workaround, and if so I’ll let you know. Please let us know if anything changes on your end.
I have an update. After looking around online I found that I am not the only one experiencing issues with AMD cards in Darktide. I stumbled upon a list of ini-file configurations that many people claimed to have success with. I tried these out myself and found that practically all my issues were solved. There is still some delay on rendering textures from time to time, but nowhere near as bad as it used to be. On top of that, my game runs incredibly smooth at high fps now, that is with all graphics settings set to high. Please find the list of changes below.
In win32_settings.ini:
fullscreen = true
streaming_texture_pool_size = 1024
In settings_common.ini:

feedback_buffer_size = 4
max_age_out_tiles_per_frame = 8 CHANGED
max_streaming_tiles_per_frame = 8 CHANGED

max_write_feedback_threshold = 0.009
min_write_feedback_threshold = 0.005

tile_age_out_time_ms = 5000

EDIT: indeed the game runs much smoother now and texture pop-in/rendering issues are less. These issues do however still present themselves, especially the weapon LOD after swapping. It sometimes takes very long to render all the details and this happens pretty much all the time while playing. This also did not fix the the artifacts that replace textures sometimes as you can see in my pictures.
I get texture and mesh popping all the time and I’m using an Nvidia card. It wasn’t always happening but it’s been doing it so long I think I’ve just learned to live with it lol
I get you, seems to be a common problem then. Unfortunately for me I really notice these things and they take away from my enjoyment. Especially because, like you say, this did not used to happen.
