PRAISE THE OMNISSIAH.
Give me a Techpriest/ Skitarii archetype and I will not stop playing Darktide.
Great post/ idea!

One of the playable characters is a psyker who was captured by the inquisition. The gameplay, the lore, the dialogue and even the penances all suggest that âourâ psykers are extremely dangerous. Lets list it up just a few to make it clear then (sry for formating im on my phone)
penance that requires you to kill 5 elites or specialists in 10 seconds
penance that requires you throwing 20 enemies out bounds with a single push
penance that requires you to deal ALL the damage against a monstrosity without the help of your teammates
the Psyker informs the party that he can sense far away some other hive city and that people are dying there quickly (all of that while heâs actively fighting)
one of the veterans dislike the Psyker and âdoes not appreciate that the inquisition sent him out to oversee the missionâs successâ
gameplay wise you can kill packs mutated and fully armoured ogryns from head to toe in mere seconds
you can also roast hundreds of poxwalkers in a minute
you can block bullets and lasgun shots with your powers
you can take multiple plasma pistol shots to the face
in other media psykers crush space marines. The strongest of them all of course (edit)
As you can see. Yes, we are âjustâ rejects, but at the same time we all have a hero syndrome because of the power and also because how fast have we risen to be officially recruited by the inquistion at lvl30. Sure many of the things that I listed up from the top of my head are compromises for the sake of fun gameplay, but we are clearly at the power level of the Atoma Prime Four. I have no doubts that we can make more compromises to make the most requested character, the techpriest easily accessible as the 5th playable character
I agree completely with this. I think a tech priest is too high a status for our rejects, even skitarii might be, but it can work.
My pet excuse is this: Some 'mostly dead, partly malfunctioning skitarii, who are being shipped home to Mars or any other forge world to be Recycled⌠pass through the system and are then siezed for use in this war by the inquisitor.
This would fit nicely⌠and would allow individual characterization of the characters.
Nice to see you here Barracuda. I still have my hopes high for a techpriest. If there is one media where you could excuse putting anything into it then it would be the 40K. We literally have a deamonhost who is on such power level that he can flatten titans and cause earthquakes. We can totally get a cool techpriest with extra arms and lightbulbs for eyes but just on a lower power level than that of the one in lore just like we have gotten a balanced out deamonhost that you can âwoooshâ your combat shovel at. It would also be cool that we could get a character with a superiority complex that despised the other playable characters. Maybe even some cool lines where we argue with Hadron lol
Iâm not really arguing that a tech-priest would be too high-profile. I just think it would be easier to base different classes on already clearly-defined tabletop units. Then again, we only have 1 subclass for each class, and those donât even make very much sense, so who knows?
I see. Thanks for explaining. I honestly canât wait for more subclasses to come. Melee psyker and a gun lugger ogryn canât come soon enough
Eh, Iâm a little bit against techpriest on principle, just because that title implies to me high rank. Remember this is a civilization with an aristocracy.
By comparison, a Skitarii would have access to most of the same tools and weapons, but would be of lower rank.
Like, in the middle ages, you hear of Knights, but thereâs another rank, who did all the same things, armored heavy cavalry, warrior elite, but who was of lower social rank. That was a âMan At Arms.â Today that sounds much more general, but once it effectively meant âknight without a titleâ instead of just âman who is armed.â
That said, thereâs a lot of people of lower rank in the ad mech, such as enginseers⌠and perhaps they have the title? I donât know enough about the lore to be sure.
That said, I do know Skitarii are the rank and file troops of the admech, and they would be amazingly fun. Like the Guardman but for the Admech.
I see that almost everyone is onboard with the techpriest in the game besides some people that would prefer an ad mech. Like a skitarii ranger. Itâs a common misconception that the techpriests are so rare and uncommon. Adeptus Mechanicus is an entire faction that is intertwined with the imperium (they produce weapons for them among others). It simply stay above the water with just the servitors doing the hard work.

There are transengineers, engiseers (who are assigned to the imperial guard) and more. Most of them being of the common folk and not high status like a noble or something like that.
Looks like youâre right, and the tech priest isnât so high after all. Still, thatâs certainly a big perceptionâŚ
Meh. I still want a Skitarii, even if I can have a tech priest. I dunno why.
New classes dont have to be criminals. Give them different story cutscenes (or none at all, honestly dont care) and slightly modify some mission voice lines and bam, they were requisitioned to aid our failing effort in Tertium.
They could add an ad mech that could feature both a skitarii subclasses and also techpriest subclasses. The sky is the limit if we are creative enough
