The only reason this issuie exist is because it is in the talet tree. The setup is simply stupid. Of course people try things out and come to a conclusion that matching the keys to same action will help. To not understand the connection and try to insert some bs over autosabotage or effectiveness of this strat is just annoying an conmpletly counterproductive. If it wasn’t there, people would not be doing this. if the talent worked in a different way it would not be used like this. Stop making excuses for a clearly broken piece of the game. I don’t care how others choose to set up their talents. It’s their choice. Even if it is stupid. I care about a piece of their game that annoyingly interferes with my game.
Personally I almost always tag everything, even if its right in front of the team. Mainly because having a giant red outline around an enemy makes it much easier to snap a quick headshot especially depending on distance.
This.
You don’t even have to tag the most prevalent target if your teammates also tag something. It just stops you being hit by ‘high priority colour’ in the midst of ‘lots of colour’.
And in low visibility or dark missions. Or smoke. Or … anything really out of the ordinary. Hit TAG to special select at infinite range.
Or far targets at 100m+, hit tag. Let someone see and decide if they can deal with it.
Uh…retype all of this, with spellcheck.
But you want it for the 12.5% dmg boost up time only time where you’d want full stacks ks honestly only boss / assassination targets.
Cause i hit my breakpoints I need with that 12.5% dmg buff to the team and that’s fine.
Let alone if you take the stamina and toughness perk keystone then you DO WANT to use it at the next viable target to get the perk benefit.
You want to tag the next available target, yes.
You tag an enemy, kill it and then tag the next one.
That is how you actually get the bonus.
Not by continuously spamming the button as fast as possible, while looking at a single enemy or at a group of enemies.
That said, the issue could be solved by simply adding a little cooldown to the sound that a tag makes., and by removing the tag sound when re-tagging an enemy that is currently tagged already.
No need to falsely blame a talent for the stupid actions of <1% of players.
To help with OP’s issue - there is a mod that you can download to change the sound for tagging enemies to the sound for tagging items, making it much less of an ear ache.
Already linked it for them, hopefully they used to to solve their problem. Tag Abuse - #14 by gpkgpk
I haven’t encountered too many of these. First two or three times was shortly after someone brought it up on Steam forums. I can only assume as an attempt to troll. After that, nothing. Now about 2-3 weeks later, I just ran into another. I don’t know what they think the purpose of this is, other than to annoy. If anything it drowns out the sound of specials.
Either way, I think a 5 second cooldown per 3 pings is reasonable. It would prevent the spamming for the most part. This happens in every game where you are allowed to ping freely. People abuse it, and a cooldown is added. I don’t see why Darktide couldn’t do the same if the problem persists.
With every problem there is a solution.
Have option to disable player tags audio, so you won’t hear and only can see if you’re actually looking their way the enemy highlights.
Perhaps optional to show in subtle manner on your HUD what enemies they pinged as visual notification instead of audio notification.
Probably some mod out there or will be made for this. Like many things, mod will fix it seems to be usual theme…
You can turn that sound off in the base game settings
Even I decided to install this. A very good addition from the mod community.
And you would be to first to cry at veterans not using their skill during hardewr runs like auric and damnations etc.
Huh? Binding Ping/Tag to attack button is just a bigly terribly noobly thing to do.
The vet ping is completely different to a normal ping what are you talking about you cant spam the vet ping coz u have to get stacks up. thanks for your nothing argument
