Agreed. Melee weapons are so beefy now. A lot of them can kill most threats relatively quickly, and the best ranged builds are no longer as good as the pre-skill tree best ranged builds. There simply isn’t an equivalent to pre-tree vet autopistol or bolter.
This is by design, but Fatshark definitely went too far in some cases. I still think Volley Fire got done dirty and had its damage nerfed way too hard.
Communal ammo pickups are something I’ve been in favor of in Darktide since launch. It’s such an obvious solution to the ammo problem.
survivalist got nerfed from 1% gain rounded up to 1% gain to a minimum of 1
i play bolter vet, my melee damage is about 50% of the total, even with survivalist and 15 ammo pickup on average i struggle to keep my build going
i’m fine with ammo scarcity for specialist ammunitions, but reworking (nerfing) survivalist on the current build of the game would be such a taxing effort with so little gains that if Fatshark does in fact undertake the effort it would be a killer for the game itself
and honestly, do we really want a 4th veteran rework?
Eventually, yes. The current class has plenty of issues that could stand to be addressed, such as the aforementioned aura situation. The other classes also need revisions to correct their own flaws as well.
I mean. They’d be completely fine. My true solo runs I get further on just melee only zealot than I do on full kit Vet. Zealot can get by with zero ammo.
As for psyker the absolute worst case scenario is they just start using staves again.
Not sure what ranged veteran builds are gonna do for those auric maelstrom missions where you get over 200 specials in a single match if some of the players here get what they want.
i don’t think the argument isn’t necessarily that survivalist should be nerfed, but all of the other aura offerings are absolutely pitiful and there needs to be valid choices besides massively increasing the uptime of ranged weapons and 5% movespeed
at the very least i’d like to see us keep the “basic” version of our class auras so we aren’t just completely losing survivalist on other choices
if ammo is not such a big deal then just, you know, leave survivalist as it is?
or everything that would allow a slightly different playstyle than yours should just cease to be a thing
Melee in darktide is already in a bad state of its own, do you want to bring the gun play to the same level just because you dont use guns?
You are the one choosing to go full melee, do you blame and shun unpon the ranged guys that steal your kills and make you look bad on the scoreboard ?
I play bolter, when i’m with psykers and revolver guys i feel useless sometimes, but i know my value and what i bring to the table, so i never felt like complaining on the forum out of jealousy
Now THAT is unhealthy
if scoreboard wasn’t a thing there would be none of these conversations
One of the points I made is that survivalist pigeonholes Vet into needing to exist for gunlugger/gun psyker, and that not running survivalist is a detriment to your team as vet because it is severely valuable for your entire team to keep using ammo.
The existence of survivalist also impacts ammo economy and has to be balanced around survivalist which again forces vets to run survivalist and to have a survivalist vet on your team (the emotional support vet). This issue continues into bots just feeling useful because they print ammo which is honestly a massive issue for a number of reasons.
That’s the literally the point I’m making, and have been making.
The classes that have ranged options don’t really run out as easily because they don’t have to lean on their gun as much as veterans do, and even IF they do they have options to let them still be highly effective.
What bad state?
Ogryn, and zealot are in a bad state in melee? This is huge news to me. All these times I’ve been absolutely destroying gunner, and crusher packs with my dagger zealot must be mind blowing for people.
Psyker I can maybe see that being a thing, but even they have a good melee build that can absolutely shred crusher packs, and hordes. Like vet though I don’t like being in melee for too long on the squishy class though vet doesn’t have the option to throw assails out to kill specials free of ammo.
Damnation’s fine with or without a survivalist Vet… literally never seen anyone run dry. Sure, ammo may not be “plentiful” but there’s usually enough to keep everyone with a decent reserve from engagement to engagement.
It’s probably my Zealot brain but when I saw that tree with “1% ammo return” I immediately thought “nah, extra team damage seems more useful”, which is clearly in the minority.
I barely have an issue with ammo when team distrubutes it according to the current need even without survivalist. I believe it might be an issue when more party members are using ammo hungry weapons and don’t bother to use melee weapons very often.
Once again the reason why the Survivalist dominates is because the rest of the auras are just unimpactful in comparison.
Sorry, but I’m not a fan of this non-sense. Every game needs to be balanced certain way including PvE focused games. It’s called difficulty. Things might not be perfectly balanced and never will which is fine but that doesn’t mean balancing is not needed. I played way too many games that basically became walking simulator because of the trivial difficulty caused by power creep justified by the same non-sense.
As opposed to just not pointing out that the issue exists and dealing with the annoyances it causes for the rest of the game’s lifespan? Maybe I’ll agree with that take when Darktide is no longer in particularly active development, like Vermintide is, but prior to that point I believe that’s a very silly position.
Besides, there are plenty of ways to potentially address the problems of survivalist without just making the game worse. If Fatshark Fatkark’s the solution up that is on them, not on players pointing out why they don’t like the status quo.
Players point out why there are issues are incredibly needed for discussions. Player feedback is invaluable for a game especially when it’s constructive criticism.
You want authoritative word from Fatshark saying “yeah we totally have this in mind”? The same Fatshark that is infamous for not saying much of anything about their decision making processes? Does this not strike you as a tad absurd?
