Surge Staff - Secondary (charge up) action, can't hit 'Weak spots'

Issue Description:
The Surge staff damage table, advertises/shows damage for ‘weak spot’ hits and ‘critical weak spot’ hits for the secondary (charge up) action, yet the player has ‘zero’ control over the actual ‘aiming’ and doesn’t appear to be able to ‘cause’ any weak spot hits at all.

Secondary (charged up) actions visually appear to strike a fixed location based on the enemy and this doesn’t appear to cause any weak spot hits. Regardless of player elevation / aim angle, unable to ‘cause’ any weak spot hits with the secondary action. All additional enemies hit, by arcing lightning also are visually hit center mass, which don’t cause any weak spot hits.

Is the surge staff supposed to be able to cause weak spot hits wit the secondary (charge up) action and if so? how?

(note: Upon further testing other staffs types have the same issues the secondary (charge up) action don’t appear to cause any weak spot hits, including the Voidstrike staff, which shoots an charge up orb)

I’ll ask and get back to ya on this

I got confirmation from devs that Trauma, Purgatus and Surge staff cannot and are not intended to be able to cause weak spot/headshot hits with their alt fire. They’ll look into how to best amend the inspect view for those attacks to better reflect this, as of now the only reason it’s being shown is because they didn’t make an exception for it (and the damage values were just automatic stuff)

The Void Strike Staff can headshot/hit weak spots with its alt fire, however, and this was confirmed to be working correctly. It’s possible that there was some confusion because the void strike staff generates two attacks per hit, one for the direct impact of the orb and one for the explosion. The explosion cannot headshot, the orb can.

Appreciate the follow up.

If the void staff is able to hit weak spots, then flag it as bugged for I can’t get it to work.
The non-charged up actions that launches a bolt, indeed cause a weak spot hit indicator. But it’s the charged up bolt, I could not register any weak spot hits with.

Devs got back to me on this, they can confirm that the weapon is definitely able to do weakspot hits (debug information confirmed it) but it seems that there’s a visual bug with the hitmarker, possibly caused by the fact that the explosion and the headshot are happening simultaneously.

Devs wanna thank you for finding this issue, and assure you that the weapon is properly registering the weak spot hit, it’s just the hitmarker that’s bugged and will be looked into!

good to see a dev response to this. will there be a more general look at perks like the weak spot dmg buff and not allowing it as a perk on the staff? i feel like that was lumped in with the “ranged weapon” category but if it isnt capable of using it, you know

Unless I’m misunderstanding, I believe Purgatus staff was fixed so that that perk won’t come up for it anymore, while the other staves still benefit from it with their primary fire (and Voidstrike benefits all around) so they can make use of it.

I’d say you should definitely bring that up in the Gameplay Feedback subforum if you think that’s still something that should be changed!
