Suggestions: Making Ogryn feel more Ogryn

A dedicated Ogryn button for grabbing/ogryn smashing(?).

Zealots got their wound and dodge gimmicks, vets got their ranged and headshot gimmicks, psykers got their… well their voodoo, but ogryn? He’s just big slow and tanky on the lower diff. Weapons are big and hitty I guess?

So I propose a dedicated Ogryn button for grabbing everything that isnt other ogryns/monsters, to use his ogryn strength with. Grab enemies and throw them. Grab enemies and use them to soak up damage from the front. Grab barrels and throw them. Mutant trying to grab you? No! You grab Mutant, and YOU throw mutant.

This also can lead to talents that makes the ogryn button do something different/have other effects.

For example, one that makes him throw grabbed enemies faster and harder to bowl over more enemies. Or a talent that allows him to escape disablers/disables for a percentage of HP now instead of potentially more HP loss later if the team doesnt get to him fast enough. Or a talent that allows you to use a grenade to put into the victim you throw to add effects to the grenade. Hell, even a talent that now allows him to grapple ogryns/monsters to the ground or do a barrage of punches to them and anything else he grabbed.

Just something more interesting for him too, like the other three classes get.

I had some similar ideas too

Its probably not as good as the others but the Oggy is mostly uninterruptible while reviving or on consoles and he does a fair amount of dmg when pushing with an auspex when scanning comes up.

As cool as the idea of the Ogryn throwing people around is Im not sure it fits the game. Id rather he had a version of saltys trample where horde enemies are pushed out the way during dodges or slides.

You mean slayer? My play group brought that up during the betas, lol.

That would be a lot of work, and be difficult to balance.

If they really want to make the Ogryn feel like a walking tank, they should give it better damage negation (Warrior Priest’s passive could be great), and the passive to trampling enemies who are on the ground

Wow, that’d be very in character for a “feel no pain” kinda thing and potentially make high-stagger builds much better where they currently don’t feel nearly as good in DT as they did in VT2.

I don’t think it would be as strong as vet getting infinite grenades since you’re grabbing one guy. You could also put it on a timer so he’s not just picking up everyone one by one to drop over the railings too.

I thought about more damage negation, but it would still bring the problem he has now with his current innate dr. He feels tankier only on the lower diff, but like walking target on the higher diff to anything with a gun, esp if you’re caught in the open. Trampling over enemies that isn’t as big as him sounds like a good idea though. Not being able to just walk past one guy as an ogryn feels sad ;w;

Throwing people about would be too complicated imo, but picking up a non special/elite and using a meat shield for X amount of damage until disintegration, could be quite cool.

Throwing barrels would be insane fun though.

I think a good place to start with making Ogryn feel like Ogryn would also be making him actually the most tanky class in the game. Right now he’s among the least tanky in most relevant loss conditions.
He’s slow, so he should have the most “buffer”. Right now he has the least buffer, but he does have good melee sustain.

Yep. I have every toughness node/buff going and 2-3 poxwalker slaps deletes my toughness. And then HP is just as flaky.

Ogryn only dies outside of havoc to specialists (flamers + disablers) tbh

I think that’s partially just cause buffer never matters below Havoc, shooters are so non dangerous they don’t really threaten anyones toughness much.
The moment they do though, Ogryn loses out fundamentally, because he has no actual reactive plays nor buffer. If he’s caught out he dies. If others get caught out they still have more buffer (such as more effective toughness), mobility and reactive plays (like vet shout or bubbles or fotf or chorus or stealths). Questionable design for the class that is intentionally slow and gets caught out more as a result. I think this fundamental dynamic is part of why he doesn’t feel very fun or involved on high difficulties, he just literally has less counterplay.

That would be “lit” :fire: as the kids say.

Do kids still say that?

What more says that you live and die to make Emprah proud, than beating a heretic with another heretic?

I want it.

Honestly I have no idea. I’m old too lol.

I’ve just heard kids saying “that’s bare” (or bear?).

And “that’s bare good”.

Literally no idea what it actually means other than ‘good’

Oh yes, the ole Improvised Weapon strategy!

I’d settle for faster ledge pickups, beefy dodges (move, punies), and better stagger thresholds.

Because Ogryn, that’s why!

Can anyone argue with this line of reasoning, no. Ironically enough, because Ogryn!
