[Suggestion] Ogryn Barrel Throw

Hey all, what if Ogryns could pick up and throw barrels? Would this be feasible?

Could be feasible, it could be balanced by requiring a talent to perform a barrel throw. Also barrels could act like cores where the Ogryn would be unable to use weapons while carrying one and would be at greater risk of incoming gunfire while carrying it.

This would be awesome to throw at psykers and blow them off the map

Assuming the Ogryn can actually hit the Psyker. That’s quite a bold assumption from what I’ve seen in matches… :thinking:

Adding to this, I think that it should retain the movement properties of the power cell. Like carrying power cells, it should also allow you to push with your off hand while you have stamina. It would also allow for some Ogryns to conserve ammo or be a good improvised weapon in a pinch.

I also think the animation for the throw talent should be an overhead two handed throw. That way you get more distance than when tossing a power cell/barrel compared to the current “push up/weak basketball shot” distance.

They could implement it as a talent that allows throwing of barrels and also gives that animation and throw range for the power cells. That way it could also be useful as a teamplay talent since you would be able to pass the cell and throw it greater distances. Either that, or I was thinking they could make a side talent next to it that enables the throw on power cells.

This gives me another idea, what if they added roll physics to the barrels? I could imagine rolling barrels down some stairs to take out some elites/small hordes in some areas.

Also, it seems to me that FatShark is not opposed to experimenting with barrels - there is a sub-condition for more barrels on some missions (saw it on a maelstrom mission). I also saw the clever barrel placements on Clandestium Gloriana and other maps, and they are frequently a ledge hazard. But barrels don’t have to be used only as a map hazard. In Vermintide 2 there were some barrels that could be picked up as objectives, but there were also oil barrels littered across the map which could be useful.

Barrel throw essentially could be implemented as a crude weapon, but with the aforementioned talent idea, it could also be a way to “disarm” particularly dangerous barrels before someone in the group sets them off. It also could be hazardous to the user themselves, if someone is too trigger happy.

Maybe it could allow for one to “barrel jump” like grenade/rocket jumping in some games. You could use it to launch yourself or teammates upwards or forwards in a desired direction. Another possible use is as portable stun/knockdown or a fire damage source for Chaos Ogryns and Monstrosities. It would also allow Ogryns to be more ammo efficient and not hoover up as much ammo when using certain weapons that consume ammo quickly, or have a low ammo pool such as the Grenadier Gauntlet. Some missions have tons of barrels!

Would honestly get me to play Ogryn far more, it needs more things that lean into its abhuman strength that aren’t just big weapons if they’re gonna kneecap lore accurate things like outrunning genestealers for balance reasons.

Agreed 100%. Breaking out of Trapper Nets and Pushing off Pox Hounds should also be abilities of Ogryns, IF they have a certain amount of Stamina at the time they are disabled. For as strong as they supposedly are, it’s silly a little hound can permanently disable such a behemoth.

Also, Ogryns have mediocre dodge distance and awful Stamina efficiency compared to the other classes so this wouldn’t be terribly unbalanced.
