Stepping back for a bit... and feedback for Fatshark

Hah. Horizon II

I find when I leave a game, I don’t go back. And DT will be one of them. 15 special missions away from the portrait frame. Done Mission Improbable. Might try twins hard, and the two last redacted penances (monstronum brain burst and the Ogryn 40m one, if I can be bothered to find a discord group).

I too thought there’d be some momentum. But FS released the Xbox version, did some nice work on the talent trees, the so-so twins event, then just left.

Can’t help but think it was all for Microsoft money, and they’re planning a tactical retreat. Costume shop and p2p are the 6 month focus? Who knows. But new stuff has been too slow and I’ve burned out on the 10 (?) missions we have. Man, that’s quite a thing. There are so few missions. Ah well. Not my thread

Well… my friends stopped playing last week and it seems like we are going to be playing Helldivers 2 now.

What broke the camels back is the utter lack of communication. If there had been a comlink telling people “hey, we are working on this cool feature that will be done in a few weeks”… it might have changed anything… but a large reason why its being abandoned is the fact that there is nothing on the horizon and even the “hotfixes” are laughably in content.

The sound engine is broken for months now. Silent Trappers and Poxbombs are the norm for everyone on the team. The game still refuses not to properly let you change your weapons at times. Its been in this state for a year now and everyone complains about it. Absolutely everyone.

The Cosmetics store is a mess. Seriously, why can’t it be like Vermintide 2 where i have access to all the cosmetics and can actually give you money when i want to? You released a new helmet 6 weeks ago which i thought would have made a nice costume with an armor that was in the store 4 or 5 months ago. Back then I didn’t care for it. I would have bought it with the helmet… but since i didn’t have the armor and you refuse to let me tint these things to color coordinate my outfit… i didn’t buy the helmet either.

I am so very tired on how everything is run here. The fact that you have duplicate weapons in the store. Why do we need twice the same chainsword skin in the same rotation? One on the zealot and the other on the Veteran. Why does it need to be so stingy? It’s like you don’t want money.

Then half the cosmetics are just ugly or make you look like a clown, pimp or hobo. Who the hell designs these things and can we have someone with taste doing this work? Why does every Zealot outfit need candles stuck on it? It’s like the guy working for Vermintide does double duty. Seriously, why all the chain mail?

Why is there still no weapon customisation that allows me to put a flashlight onto any weapon i carry for lights out missions? Why can’t you sell me a backpack with a proper light on it, that lets me get away without a flashlight on my gun?

Why aren’t you communicating with us? And why are we players still called Rejects? Adding “Devoted” to the mix doesn’t somehow make up for the fact that you actively show your disdain for the player base in light of your lack of communication, lack of updates, lack of addressing missing features, lack of response to often requested features…

And i get it… you don’t like us. You don’t want anything to do with us. That is why we are the Rejects. I absolutely get it…

Well… i am done with this toxic and abusive relationship you want to have with us… i’ll be taking my money else where.

Mez, this is an absolutely excellent writeup from a pillar of the VT2 and Darktide community. I figured out how to play Vermintide 2 at high level because I stumbled across your excellent Steam guide on the matter and I credit you with my willingness to actually stick with Tide titles long enough to have brought my friends into the fold.

I think this post deserves to be on the subreddit as well as these forums. Do you have any plans to copypasta it over there?

This make sense, therefore it will be outright rejected by the decision makers. You are going to waste your time cleaning up your inventory from trash items, and you are going to love it*

'* even with mods to automate this pointless process.

It’s sad Fatshark will ignore this post like all of the others.

Yeah pretty much. And thanks for elaborating so well on how you feel. I agree totally.

My friends and I, discussing the things that led to this post recently, were like “how is this company even in business? We can’t think of a game we actually play that has a worse developer.” Heck, even battle field 2042 turned their mess around to a better degree. Why are we still supporting this developer or giving them our time? Total lack of respect.

Thought about it - but whenever I cross post stuff there it seems to go sideways. Feel free to link it if you’d like too. Might come across better being linked by someone else.

Or even raising the minimum item rating cap at brunt’s and the armoury… And melks. Until after a certain point every weapon you see is 380.

I just want to add to this to say I’ve probably consecrated at least 30+ shotguns to blue now just trying to get manstopper blessing so I can make a funny sounding build that will probably be a meme anyway. This isn’t even trying to get good stats/perks/whatever else, this is just trying to get a T2 blessing in the first place. I would just be happy to get the blessings in my library, take any lawbringer with passable stats, then slap the two blessings I want on it and ignore the perks entirely.

This is a very low expectation for what I want out of the weapon and the game currently won’t even let me have that much. It’s an incredible killjoy.

It’s kinda funny how my VT2 crew played DT all the way to level 30 on 4 characters and we haven’t played together in like a year and just play VT2.

DT is great with randoms in Auric but terrible in how builds work.

Like my mate wanted to try the void strike build and to make it work he would just have to pray and dream about the perfect item showing up in the shop with the right blessings.

In VT2 it’s like I want to try this build.
Pick class.
Pick tree.
Make weapon then upgrade it to.orange.
Reroll for 2 minutes.
Builds ready.

DT
See build
Pick class
Pick tree
Buy 72 and a half weapons if I’m missing the base.
Then upgrade that weapon.
Hope that it’s not bricked since this build needs X blessing and Y blessing.
Oh it’s not either one well maybe I just rebless
Oh don’t have it.
Well just pray to melk.

We just play VT2 when we want the horde game fix.

Also DT is impossible to recommend to a lot of friends since 30 hour barrier to hard content exists.

This is the big one for me. I understand the need for careful communication, but no communication is a big bummer.

A simple roadmap – even one subject to extreme/arbitrary change – would work wonders. I’m dreaming, I know.

They probably can’t because it may decidedly lack a crafting/itemisation overhaul.

Can you imagine? Fatshark announces a roadmap and instead of building hype the entire thing is just totally overtaken by ‘crafting fix when’.

If I was the PR guy I’d refuse to take part in that disaster.

More seriously, they won’t put out any kind of roadmap, because they lack the ability to hold to it and rather than change their internal processes to be more efficient they’d rather just give everyone their best deaf-mute impression.

Player retention mechanics are always ideated by out of touch business managers which always ends up alienating their playerbase.

Compound this with icy silence because clearly the community should be punished for calling out lies like its our fault they spoke them.

The opening line feels quite apropo.

what always baffled me is that almost all the games with the longest longevety, almost exclusively mannage to become the mainstaple without any of those artifical retention desgings.

there are tonnes of old almost ancient games that people still return to, yet nobody talks about games from 3-4 years ago.

There were more game devs in charge of the business side from the games of that era not out of touch money men.

That and a lot fewer monetization schemes.

A recent example of a new classic is BG3. The man in charge is a gamer through and through.

It really shows.

almost if putting “industry” before gaming is the antithesis of gaming should be.

I think we are at that stage so even if they will drop crafting fix, huge part of feedback will be like “ffs finally, why it took so long”

That’s just the Darktide subreddit whenever someone has a good take.

I remember that there was one time where I got downvoted to hell for saying that a Chainsword with 80% in all stats except Penetration is better than a Chainsword with 80% Penetration and <50% on all of the other stats.

My main account was banned from the subreddit because I called a guy a neckbeard when he proposed that everyone should send death threats to the CMs.
