A few months ago, Valve released their version of a shadowplay-type screen recording software for Steam, accessible through a beta. Although fairly barebones, it’s pretty solid so far, and seems to take up less CPU than NVIDIA’s shadowplay does.
However, some games don’t play so nice with it. A couple of games (such as Balatro) straight up won’t work, and VT2 is the strangest example I’ve had so far - it used to also just not work, but now it only captures video. There is no sound in the recordings whatsoever. The issue doesn’t happen in Darktide.
I know this is probably a strange and incredibly minor request, but if you guys ever get the chance, could you look into what may be causing this?
I’ve queried this with our developers who have said the best course of action would be to report the issue to Steam, as they should be able to handle this.
Nvidia shadowplay and a fervent user of the steam beta version here. Both work for me with vermintide.
Have you tried some default hotfixing steps yourself and looking at the settings properly? I might be a special boy though and have it working even though it shouldn’t. If it’s a common problem with the game I’d definitely not call it a minor request as this working properly once it releases with the game would be used by way more people than just a few.
Steam dropped a new beta version recently that defaulted it for some users to record in multi-channel, making it seem there was no audio, since it was just muted in playback by default, you can check by using some dedicated video player like VLC and check for any extra sound channels present in the recording, if any at all, if there’s none then it’s actually just not capturing sound, if there is audio without any sound then it’s most likely capturing the wrong output for audio. Also the current version has issues with surround sound virtualization in some games. I could go and on, gotta look for the specifics if it’s just troubleshooting.
Steam has their own whopping list of known issues and FAQ, I can’t remember the actual page, will find and send link later when I am at work.
If you’ve tried messing around with it, file in a request and a report ticket to steam with this, like Julia said, hopefully it’s not a more broad and complicated issue.
Feel free to hit me up in DMs if you’d like some help trying to figure it out, but I am not really that knowledgeable about it besides the common knowledge that’s available by googling. Don’t go raising pitchforks at steam support, the thing is still in beta. The whole steam thing is pretty wonky at times.
