STEAM memory leak upon reaching character selection, 100% occurence rate

Issue Type (Required):

Other

Issue Description (Required):

A Steam memory leak is causing a constant crash when booting up Darktide specifically

i currently, post march 17th 2026 update, cannot play the game

moments after reaching the character selection screen(2-4 seconds) Steam itself(not the game) baloons in memory usage, up to 4-6 gigs before the game inevitably lands a game/system crash(the steam memory leak can then keep expanding)

this only happens with Darktide

game was working fine pre-update yesterday and the day before(hadn’t played for a while but booted up the game no problems on sunday and monday march 15 and 16 2026)

no mods are in use, game is not patched for mods at all, appdata folder flushed, fresh install with files verified

i have attempted system reboots, problem persists

i need some update on this FS, i straight up cannot play the game i paid good money for and played for hundreds of hours that now refuses to work, theres 0 chance steam would issue a refund too

managed to finally get around this. for now, with a semi-clean steam re-install(only keeping user-data and steamapps folders)

This should be in the tech support section. Maybe @FatsharkJulia can help you, I don’t know.

this sounds more like a steam specific issue with the game.

u running out of memory with only 8gb used seems more like the issue?

try running a dskcheck, boot time scan. It could also be a corruption issue. Might have to uninstall the game/move it to a different hard drive/ssd/nvme/micro sd-usb3
