Had the amazing experience of pairing with a speed running, knife wielding, stealth using Veteran that was skipping entire sections during a maelstrom while leaving the rest of us behind. I survived for almost 10 mins as he kept pushing further into the level, spamming knife heavies why the f does a tiny knife give you momentum like you’re swinging a giant hammer and using stealth to make the enemies completely useless as they kept funneling back to us because of how utterly broken this move is.
Three people joined and left in the process of this. I ended up getting trapped and dying but decided to stay so I could watch this absolute god level gameplay. To say I wasn’t disappointed is putting it mildly. Using stealth/knife is FAR more brain dead than I ever imagined and the fact it even exists is baffling to me.
It is one of the most broken moves I have seen in an online gaming environment and I would go as far to say it makes the Hive Scums Bazooka look like a toy in comparison. At least the Bazooka has limitations and doesn’t auto regen - stealth literally has absolutely no limitations other than a timer that can be EASILY negated with the mobility of a knife and as a result, you can carry entire teams and solo levels with it which completely goes against the entire idea of Darktide.
Shroudfield and whatever the veteran keystone for stealth is should be removed ASAP and never to be seen again. If you are one of the people using these moves - don’t kid yourself into thinking you are doing anything remotely impressive.
Back in the day, my buddy and I would just leave the lobby when it was a stealth knife loner zealot, it just wasn’t worth the risk or the trouble. Did it for a few vets too, they ware much rarer though. Honorable mention to the lowbie vet who kept getting the lowbie psyker killed then bragged about how he revived him.
The infinite speed lunging knife movetech was a bad idea since its inception, it needed a spam limit years ago.
stealth in a horde game is a hard sell to begin with. but the implementation of it is really scuffed and bad. it’s like a 2004 game where if you pop stealth everything just deaggros off you. not even a “huh what happened” animation just “ok lol ai go next”
i’m not even that bothered by randoms using it. i agree there’s a lot of grief potential though. my main gripe with it is how boring this mechanic is, it feels very static. like its either griefing or its broken op or its totally useless. i’m sure some people are bound to like it but i never viewed it as a fun or interactive mechanic
A handful of us have made this exact point in the past, even like a 0.5-1s Vincent Vega “???” animation would have gone a long way to reduce the friction. I’ve seen far too many randos get aggro-dumped to death by other randos that it soured me on the whole thing, this on top of the experiences I mentioned before.
Stealth+knife-dash seems to attract the worst players, and paradoxically some of the best I’ve pugged with, but the latter was basically a statistical anomaly.
combat blade speed runners r the most disgusting part of this game. this is a coop game why r ppl like that just run far away from other teammates to show their peak gameplay skills. FS should add some measures to prevent speed run in coop
i think that might’ve been what the point of the ogryn packmaster is, but it’s not like he’ll spawn in every mission.
just reminded myself that fatshark made this boss then just dumped it into a dead gamemode for months lol. crazy decisions
Invisibility worked well for the Shade and Ranger in VT2, and eventually I got past it in the Huntsman. With Shade it’s elven magic, with the Ranger it’s a smoke bomb, sure. With the Huntsman, I just don’t care.
It bugs me in DT, though. It is indeed scuffed, both mechanically and realistically. (I am aware that “realistically” is a distressed concept when it comes to 40K.) I would have liked to see something less “invisibility” and more “stealth”: You don’t gain aggro for the duration.
Also: How long has “scuffed” been everyone’s favorite word?
You’ve never seen that the optimal way to complete some levels in vermintide is to have the handmaiden who can dodge through enemies I guess. This is a feature not a bug.
Yes, I agree stealth seems a bit odd in Darktide.
For the Zealot I wish that they would change it so that the player is not invisible but counts as doding melee attacks for its duration + the ability to dodge through human sized enemies, a bit like a culexus assassin not really invisible but distorted
I’m ready to be wrong but I’m pretty sure he’ll be added to the daemonhost slot because when you spawn them in they roam. Less avoidable optional boss than DH with no corruption.
The “move tech” infinite mobility boost on knives is pure nonsense. I’m sure I had a rant about this years ago. When it comes to stealth players…I have seen few good ones. Most run forward, aggro elite clumps they cannot manage, they usually panic, ran back to the group, and then dump the aggro on the rest of players when going invisible again.
The whole issue is made worse by Fatshark game designers not really thinking one step ahead yet again. If someone goes invisible, all enemies who were going after that player should at very least get unmutable medium stagger applied to them, to prevent unexpected INSTANT aggro switch to other near by players. Also if someone dumps aggro far away from other players, enemies should not be magically made aware of those player position.
Skitari does not have stealth. All three abilities have leaked, and none of them have stealth, if anything they have the opposite – You will see in a week or two.
Shade, or the assassin trope is extremely popular trope and people love playing it. hence why you would see it often in most game modes, like even in battle royales like Apex Legends, you have assassin trope characters like Wraith that does the invis, being the most picked character for several seasons. only to be topped by another character that does drugs and runs faster. so all in all. its just something that prints money and hence they would not remove it.
Definitely not a feature. If you hit stealth then the enemy AI completely breaks. They stop doing whatever they were doing and become a still statue and wait for the person to come back out of stealth. That is an actual broken mechanic that shatters the AI of enemies and yet it’s not only allowed but applauded by some people
For starters, the knife movement speed boost should be removed.
Personally, I don’t think stealth gameplay fits the Veteran class and is unnecessary. It would be much better to replace it with a more interesting ability.
I also think the way it interacts with enemies needs a complete revamp. As of right now it breaks the AI in most cases and alters the flow of the battle in a completely weird and not normal way.
It resets aggro and if there’s nobody near them they’ll just stand there like an ambient spawn. It means you can’t just be a hundred metres ahead, dive into a horde, hit your button, and be safe. Again feature not a bug.
So zealot should get a free massive AoE stagger that stuns bulwarks and crushers, making shroudfield even higher tier?
