How does it work? Are there stacks? What are some common breakpoints?
I remember back in patch 12 the shovel was able to throw crushers onto the ground with max stacks of thunderstrike and hammerblow. Now it doesnt do that anymore and throwing ragers onto the ground is also inconsistent, not to mention incredibly unsafe because it doesnt interrupt their attacks.
I wish to understand how this mechanic work so i can attempt to play around it, but it just seems incredibly inconsistent, not to mention enemies thrown to the ground can have their animation reset by other hits! That defeats the purpose of the whole stagger mechanic, doesnt it?
Ragers can be interrupted - if you use the shovels special action or slap him in the head, it will always stagger. Its the heavy thats inconsistent. If you have either thunderstrike or hammerblow you can also keep them locked in light attacks, but only when theyre in theit neutral state.
Nope, this is false. Ragers are incredibly bugged right now. They will just decide to not get staggered by things that should stagger them. Shovel, club, and cleaver specials are all things that should stagger them (I mean they reliably stagger monstrosities ffs) but currently they only do about 70% of the time, even if you hit them with a heavy first to build more stagger. I have instances where I have used club slap 3 or 4 times in a row and it still doesn’t stagger them. This combined with their ludicrous HP buff has made them a frankly unfair enemy and they really need to fix this stagger thing.
After all, them being easy to stagger is exactly why they increased their HP in the first place.
The stagger animation override is a persistent bug from the time of Vermintide 1. There’s a light stagger, heavy stagger and knockdown state, and a lighter one should not override a heavier one. It’s why I think their claim of “DT is not forked off VT2” is either bogus or truthful in that they forked of VT1.
I meant sapper shovel, which does interrupt ragers. All ogryns melee special youve mentioned can stagger on headshots. Unless this has to do with desync issue which is then outside of the scope of discussion.
No, no it is not outside the scope of discussion. If something that should stagger does not, that is literally the issue.
It doesn’t if there is desync. See? Completely within the bounds of the discussion of stagger. Spoiler alert: the game is far from perfect and every little BS detail like that deserves to be called out.
Suppression is also charmingly useless in that classic Fatshark way.
The only enemies that can be suppressed (reliably, or at all to begin with) are Groaners, Shooters, Gunners, and Shotgunners.
Shotgunners and Stalkers are the most resistant to Suppression, but can be suppressed.
Everyone else cannot be suppressed, which is weird, because I kind of remember that Bruisers (both Dreg and Flak) could be suppressed before, or demonstrated suppressed behavior.
Suppression states can also be animation cancelled instantly by enemies if they are not fully downed by Suppression (ie Stagger knockdown state), but can be cancelled out of it by damage.
Stagger resets was an issue in VT2 that they eventually (in Fatshark time) fixed, at least for knocked down enemies. This was probably well after Darktide started development, however.
Im only asking about how staggers work, not how shoddy the servers are. Youre not adding anything of value here, because we are all aware of this issue.
What is wrong with you? Weve already established that were not talking about how bad the servers are, only how staggers work. You kept giving an answer im not looking for and somehow im supposed to engage with it? Read the op: ive literally asked about the break points, the stacking, etc. If you want to talk about how desync is being a problem you should make your own thread.
Yes, that is precisely my point. You are acting like a child. You started a discussion, didn’t like my answer, then proceeded to insist that something that objectively affects how stagger work is somehow unrelated.
Well no, you could always just ignore it instead of being petulant.
I’m here now, in fact I recently had a discussion about this sort of thinking with another person that has commented on this post and have been convinced this way of thinking about topics is flawed. We are here now. It is all related.
My man, if either of us is acting like a child it is definitely not me. Youve hurled so many insults at me and ive yet to say anything rude to you back. I could just ignore you, yes, but then what the hell is the point of a discussion? I thought about clarifying my question by posting what i think youve said is wrong - you stated that ragers are bugged, so i found evidence to the contrary. What ive posted has been fairly representative to what ive seen in game.
You then started saying its the servers problem, and im telling you were all aware of it but im not interested in that, because all i want to know is how the mechanic is supposed to work.
Instead of admitting what youve been harping on is irrelevant to the question, you doubled down and called me a child for my supposed refusal to accept an answer to a question i explicitly stated im not interested.
Youre wasting both of our times here. You should take your own advice and just ignore this thread then, big man.
Stagger has always unfortunately been a mostly invisible mechanic. If the enemies go by VT2 stats then they all have an invisible stagger resistance stat which then is compared to your weapon’s and the specific move’s impact rating + any bonuses to determine whether they ignore it, get a light stagger (flinch), heavy stagger (stun) or knockdown.
Ragers currently have a larger stagger resistance after the elite buff change but I can’t tell you what the numbers were changed to, and all the weapon impact numbers aren’t useful without knowing what the enemy’s stagger resist is.
Yes, that is my point. You are not interesting in discussion.
Yes, that is my point. You are not interested in discussion.
Indeed, that does appear to be my question as to why you even started this topic if you, in your own words, “are not interested” in what people have replied. You are not interestied in what I have to say, you are not interested in what zygr has to say, you didin’t even bother replying to simpliv but based on the content of his reply I can guess your response.
No, you showed some meat grinder footage. They work fine in the grinder but when you go to a live match they no longer behave the way they do in the grinder because the grinder does not suffer from the same issues as the live matches, it never has. Historically all kinds of things work differently in there including some abilities working or not working in it but doing the opposite in a live match.
No, I have called you petulant and a child, which are technically the same thing. I have said no other “insult” to you, this reaction makes me think you are actually a child and if you are I apologize. I started off neutral but you decided to be rude by shutting down discussion by claiming anything you don’t like is not relevant to the topic.
My first reply: no insults.
My second reply: no insults.
My third reply: no insults.
My fourth reply: no insults.
Your first reply to me: rude.
Your second reply to me: fair enough
Your third reply to me: rude
Your fourth reply: an insult, or rather an implied insult right there in the first sentence. This is the point where I called you a child.
Yes. I see it clearly. You just want to pick a fight with some strangers on the internet while pretending to be a victim. Congratulations. Ive reported you for harassment and off topic discussion.
Now if the mods could do something about this man itd be great.
Yeah, so it seems. Its just a shame that so many blessings are made around this mechanic yet we dont exactly have the resources to see what does or doesnt work.
I’ve had some time to look around a bit more, and Gameslantern has stagger resistance values, but I suspect it’s multiplied by health, mass, action modifier or something, because it doesn’t really line up.
Testing with a Achlys Mk VIII combat axe
Light combo on maniac does 20-20-20 stagger on weakspot
Dreg rager is maniac
Hit mass 4.00, Stagger resistance 1.00, 2400 HP.
Normal attacks stagger them when they’re not attacking. I think whatever an enemy is doing can give them wildly different stagger resistance values.
Part of the issue as well is the weapon attack breakdown doesn’t give you any values on the special attack.
