"Sprint" interrupts attacks and chains

Using “Sprint” interrupts some of attack animations.
The most buffling is with different weapons the problem manifistate in different ways.

Latrine Shovel mark V:
Normal attacks while sprint works only from right to left way - only one animation, its first step in chain.

Achlys Mk I Power maul:
Normal attack animation interrupts after second step of chain.
Heavy attack animation work only from right to left way.
If you try to sprint forward, while you preparing a second step of heavy attack (after standing still) it clearly interrupts and chain go to first step.

Orox shield have the same problem as Achlys, but cause of its size it would be not so visibly.

Mk III Special bully club interrupts after second step and you could clearly see a start animation of “running with club” instead of third step , but almost at once it will be interrupt.

And most iconic - “Krourk Mk VI Cleaver” cause it have a “thust” blesing and it works a bit different: there is an intterrupt second step heavy attack only if heavy attack would be cast before fully charge.
At the video you can see how sprint prevent second heavy attack:
A sound like a hit was successful, but is no one and “thrust” charge buff remains persistently active (until next attack move)
The fully charge heavy attack work fine while sprinting.
Also krourk complete only first and second steps of normal attack chain.

All other melee weapons (for all classes) are affected by sprint for their attacks and chains similar way.
For example Hammer MK IV and Heavy sword Mk VI (zealot) have the same issue that have achlys - only first step of heavy attack will able to perform, second step will be immediatly drop after using sprint to the first step.

Or one handed chain sword performs only first step of normal attack chain.

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

  1. Go to psykhanium
  2. Take any mentioned weapon
  3. Try to complete attack chains while constantly holding “sprint” key and moving forward or bind “sprint” and “move forward” to one key and move forward or try to push sprint while perform a chain.

As some one who binds both dodge and sprint to shift, due to there just being not enough buttons and an already wired brain for dodge on shift as well as sprint, I hate this thing so much. Ever since the release when playing slow weapons like Thunder Hammer I’d constantly get these attack cancelations mid swing, and it absolutely happens still.

This is something I struggle with on the Steam Controller because I’ve got sprint setup on a toggle. I’ve come to accept it as part of the complexity of the game. I’ve used mods and macros to iron out so many other mechanical wrinkles that drive me insane or hurt my body, and this one I can mitigate with some effort, so I just try to cope.

But it still bites me in the butt sometimes, and it is frustrating.

I really haven’t thought through the mechanics of sprint and how it would feel if it didn’t cause this interaction…would we just be windmilling murder machines if we could walk-n-combo everywhere? What would Swift Certainty be like?

I cant accept it like some new degree of complexity coz it ruin gameplay for only part of weapons in the game.

If u’ll play for zealot with eviscerator MK XV you dont even notice this issue - heavy attack run fine and normal attack chain work for 1st and 2nd steps, then interrupts. But 3rd and 4th steps very similar to 1st and 2nd and u could not feel any difference in gameplay.

If u’ll play for Ogryn u will be able to succesfully use “shovel MKV” or “club MKIII” with heavy attacks coz they work fine and Ogryn gamestyle have to use heavy atttack in general.
But if u want play with “Achlys” or 'Shield" - there is a problem.

So I just was force to completly stop use weapons that have “interrupt effect” by sprint with heavy attacks.

Btw, when u perform attacks animation ur move speed downs to normal (and in chains too), so you not need to worried about any crazy widmill.
Even now, sprint activation between steps (with interrpupts) of chain cause minimal effect for general move speed.

Welcome to the forums lad. To be completely honest I don’t see this as an issue. In fact I abuse this on certain weapons to my advantage to reset certain combos. It’s tricky but it works.

This is absolutely an issue, I very often use sprint mid swing or between the swings in order to get closer to my desired target, which more often than not leads to attack being cancelled either mid swing or a the very beginning.

not when the reset results in a more awkward animation that makes the heavy attack take longer to charge.

Don’t do that. That’s the problem right there, position and the fact that you instinctively press shift to get closer.

Use another weapon that lets you take advantage or lay off the shift while in a combo.

I like this weapon tho I would like it to function less awkwardly

I’m sorry but I really don’t get it. As in, all weapons are weird when trying to do this mid combo. I’m not sure there are any weapons that do more than 2 combo hits before they cancel animations if you’re also pressing shift. Knife is the only one that comes to mind that if you press shift it rather cancels your sprint then resumes it and cancels it again but kind of lets you combo. It’s very weird tho and non functional. There are some special attacks that you can do while sprinting but that’s another matter and they do not have a combo. This is working as intended as far as I can understand.

Janky animations shouldnt be in the game, i just want the game to be better.
they dont have to outright remove it they can just fix it.
make it so sprinting before charging the next heavy resets the combo and sprinting after the next attack is charging just extends the range.
