The game looks so good imo. I absolutely love WWZ (also made by Saber) and this looks like WWZ but you’re space marines instead. Sure, the combat doesnt look as in depth as Darktide but that is fine. It looks like it has just enough nuance to it to require skill without being too overbearing. Also the enemy density looks much greater than Darktide. It looks like an actual, massive war against the tyranid swarm. Darktide’s enemy density isnt enough sometimes, imo.
Oh look, weapons that actually change their skins when a higher rarity is acquired. I wish this technology wasn’t lost with Vermintide 2. Shame really…
The game already looks and feels way more fleshed out than what FS accomplished in almost 2 years of ‘constant’ ‘patching’ and ‘fixing’. If only it was first person and had better melee combat…
I remember when Helldivers 2 was gonna be the Darktide killer. I’m sure the prophecies are on the money this time though.
never understood this , what compete? where is it written you can only play one game and everything is always at the cost of EVERYTHING .
at a guess ill play SM" pretty hard for a few days then its shine will wear off and other games will come back
things “compete” by just being different fun games.
Who even said that? Darktide was never alive to begin with. Helldivers 2 despite its massive blunders still has 10x the playerbase than Darktide.
The only thing Darktide competes with right now are random second rate indie games.
There were a couple of threads both here and on the steam forum.
Still OP, I asked a question and you avoided it
I’m not saying it is Darktide killer, but:
Since HD2 release Darktide daily population halved. Of course, it might be a coincidence, since Darktide is doing a good job killing its own playerbase, i think.
there is no particular dropoff so what am i supposed to see here? the trajectory is consistently going down?
I will 100% be playing SM2 because it’s likely at least half decent and looks pretty and is SET IN THE GRIM DARK FUTURE and I get to play as a super human making mince meat of waves of xeno scum and get to finally play against the nids. I’m hoping orks feature again too though and maybe even Eldar or Tau etc
Everyone here bemoans Astartes but let’s be honest, there is next to zero FPS/3PS games let alone any that are good that they feature in.
I don’t enjoy 3PS anywhere near as much as FPS so if FS released a SM themed ‘DT on steroids’ game featuring SM and other burly factions on the same day as SM2 then I’d 100% check that out before SM2.
Would I prefer L4D or Battlefield with Astartes over GOW with Astartes? Absolutely. I’ll be playing SM2 though because games companies hate money and can’t seem to put 2+2 together with the L4D/Battlefield option.
I said there were next to none, not none
Yes it was cool but lacking the true visceral vibe and the enemies were a bit samey if my memory served. I still played it though because what 40k fan wouldn’t!?
I was contemplating reinstalling it recently to explode some nids. Might still do that. I only played it at launch
Edit: I’m also not even bothered by sm2 coop. As it’s a campaign game I like to play those solo anyway so that my 4th wall isn’t threatened. I like to get involved in the story and play it like an unfolding novel or film. Definitely no threat to dt2 imo
sadly not worth it after playing darktide in my opinion.
yes the atmosphere is there, but the lacking combat “oomph” kills every attempt at reviving some coop play with my gaming buddy.
it´s the “we got warhammer at home” scenario you like to avoid as a kid
if you´ve seen the content already you got your visual warhammer fix, the rest feels so sluggish i can´t get into it anymore, especially if i fired it up to pass the timer on the map rotation in darktide.
Yeah for what it’s worth, to me the ultimate Space Marine themed game is an FPS. Immersion becomes much more attainable if you can fully experience all the gadgetry and tech and HUD that is also a key part of their whole thing. My dream 40k game is basically Brothers in Arms (for those old timers that know) but you’re space marines.
Oooooohhhh that would be karkin’ ace!! Yes please!
Basically a campaign mode for the battlefield 2 40k game that I want
ok, but i want
as “jihad-jeeps”
and all the janky goodness of bf1942.
trolling mines for the emperor and wingsurfing for macragge.
I’d like sperce mererns in lernd rerder.
Antigrav ftw!
Going over and being directly involved in the HD2 threads, I don’t see a strong “HD2 will kill DT” sentiment. It has been mentioned in the same vein as any other bold, brash statement. But there was a different undertone in those threads.
The games were directly compared a lot. The companies were compared as well. The success of one and the other were compared. As well as the failures.
For their part, the DT diehards did make a point that I wholeheartedly agree with:
DT’s blend of themes and mechanics is unique. It’s why we love it.
It’s a heap of mediocrity with a diamond in the middle, which is also why we hate it.
But there’s nothing else like it. It has no direct competition.
And that last part is not doing FS or DT any favors, in my humble personal opinion. But I digress -
Let’s be honest here - we play(ed) DT because it was Tide. The 40K aspect wears off fast. The 4P co-op is neither here nor there, and sometimes irrelevant. The PvE is equal parts good and abysmal… But the Tide. Nothing else like it.
So, it’s up to FS to make it better, or worse, or try to and end up somewhere in the middle. But there will always be those 2-3K madlads clicking away, a week after a solid 40K game launches, or the best implementation of live-service drops out of nowhere, or FromSoft drop an expansion…
heresy, if i was 15 years younger and still 40 pounds heavier (the good kind, not the fat chubby kind )
i would have chosen my first tattoo differently.
alas, i don’t have my old back nor would “for the emperor” look good on it now
the atmosphere akin to the action is in fact 50/50
of the appeal for me.
never gotten into the sillyness of helldivers, but 40k, i’d be happy as a pig in mud waking up in that world greeted by a servo skull.
dead within the week i guess, but happy until then
same with the og fallout 1 (before slapstick took over as in your face humor), i love myself a good gritty dystopia.
40K has a special place in my preferred fantasy as well. I understand.
My general point was more along the lines of:
You’re a prisoner escorted by Inquisition, who get jumped and you find yourself in a mob. Ok, cool.
Here’s this Thunder Hammer, Flamer, Plasma Gun, Power Sword and every manner of lasgun you can imagine, heaped upon this here bolter…
Now, they’re all junk, but they can easily decimate hundreds of enemies at a time. And you? Well, you’re a devoted reject, not even Auric level, but keep killing them Beasts of Nurgle and Chaos Spawn…!
Eeh, no. That approach worked in Fantasy, where the 5 were heroic entities. I could buy that.
At some point my previous 40K nerdity clashed with the reality of a Tide game with a 40K suit on.
That said, the suit is near-perfect. Sound, music, levels… near-perfect. Good stuff. Loved a lot of the banter. Ogryn is best, obviously.
Just… not in this aspect. My suspension of disbelief and desire for power fantasy can only go so far…
