For reference: I play mostly regular damnation - I’m not good enough for anything more intensive. And mostly I’m happy with the new patch.
I have the feeling that more then before the AI director is dead set on forcing us into melee - no matter how I position as a vet there is always some cultist swinging his hatchet at me. At the same time it seems to me as if ranged mobs spawn less frequently. I really enjoyed the firefights and when I played vet or psyker could manage a ranged/melee ration of 70/30. Now it’s more like 30/70 even on clearly ranged focused builds.
This is not a question of difficulty - when I play Zealot or Ogryn it’s 10/90 and I’m fine with that - that’s how I enjoy these classes. And melee oriented psykers and vets can be fun - no doubt. But I loved the option to concentrate more on the shooter part of the game.
Before the patch enemies would occasionally do the clown car thing and spawn a whole patrol out from behind a box or something, but now they’re literally popping into existence right on top of you. Today I had an entire pack, complete with crushers, bulwarks, maulers and assorted trash spawn literally around me. I wish I was recording at the time.
And yes, it does seem like the game now spawns individual enemies right near you in places where there is no possible way for them to get there without being seen.
They’ve also added a bunch of new portals for them to spawn through; New doors, new ceiling drop-ins, and new holes in the ground. I think they’ve also enabled enemies to climb up ledges that they previously couldn’t. A lot of the places that we learned were “safe” are now not safe.
I’ve noticed this too. I wasn’t sure if the enemies were spawning or just invisible for some reason but I’ve seen enemies appear right next to me.
Also seems like the director doesn’t spawn enough enemies occasionally. There will be intense music during an objective that normally means big numbers incoming and only a few trickles of light enemies will come. Everyone will be standing around waiting for the real fight and it never comes.
I don’t like new spawns. Feels there are less hordes, and when hordes arrive there not much elites and specials with them. On auric and maelstrom main thing is specials spawn almost endless but in a small groups. Like in ARPG you just farm elite packs. Hard to tell yet, maybe cause everyone is so overpowered enemies can’t gather in big groups, cause i believe on scorboard ammount of enemies is kinda the same as pre-patсh, but i don’t remember numbers well.
