Im being a bit hyperbolic to prove a point, my point being: Most classes have very strong CC that they use as a “crutch”. And smite is really distinct when used (easy to spot). Hence getting more attention.
Yes i know we are adressing “smyking” but as i said that behavior is probably mostly self healing.
And it will be used by players to cheese and try to achieve what they want more easily.
I’m talking about “attention seeker” it was in the old tree aswell and worked the same as far as i know, it works with pushblocks. So you can essentially tank everything (not bosses i think). And its very spammable.
Sorry i don’t really know how to respond to you, are you trying to use domination techniques or are you trying to be some kind of sideline judge?
Don’t know how I’m a sideline judge when we’ve already interacted and this isn’t a private thread.
You said you understood this:
Then immediately showed you don’t.
There is nothing wrong with not understanding it. As my anecdote states, I was in your shoes once too.
But you insist you do and that everyone in here saying it’s a problem is wrong and then gave examples trying to equate them to Smite when they don’t come close to equating, because nothing does, hence the thread.
Is there anything I can do for you to break this down more?
It’s generally good practice to form an opinion after you understand a situation.
Not at all, there are plenty of folks who like Smite as is for their own reasons.
I just believe that, to defend your position, you wouldn’t say things like:
There is no speculation in saying that turning off the AI in this game is detrimental to the combat design. Maybe some speculation in saying it’s boring for anyone not smyking, I suppose.
No other CC, besides perhaps book zealot (which is also pretty shat upon, esp when spammed), turns off the enemies for as long as you can hold a button.
CC (aka interrupting/pausing the enemy AI) is part of the combat design. There are 2 extremes to CC, none and permanent (like using invis with the solo mode). The possible range of “turning off the AI” doesn’t run from none to Smite, except in the sense that Smite is currently the most effective and long-lasting form of “AI disabling.”
Seems to me that Ghoul understands that from his posts in this thread.
It’s like you are trying to force me in some kind of trap with the way you construct your comments, I’m not gonna discuss semantics with you because that’s really off-topic.
I’m trying to say that Crowd Control it’s part of the combat design.
List of things that are Crowd Control
Indomitable
Loyal Protector
Attention Seeker
Venting Shriek
Telekine Shield with Enervating Threshold
Stunstorm Grenade
Chorus of Spiritual Fortitude (that you mentioned)
Voice of Command
Smoke Grenade
Also some mechanics that are Crowd Control:
Stagger
Suppression
I feel if we just keep misunderstanding each other maybe we shouldn’t engage, for the health of the thread?
Edit: I misunderstood this part below completely, so i removed my answer to it but the list still holds.
I mean you’re intentionally misquoting here, they’re saying no other CC lasts as long as simply holding down the button.
Personally I just want Smite to be more interesting. I hate it in it’s current form but never play with Smykers so it’s not an issue for me, I just hope it can be made into something that isn’t “hold button to stagger lock an enemy.”
I don’t think I’m misunderstanding you at all. I guess you just disagree that smite is fundamentally different than the other CCs you’ve listed which require actual brain power to decide when, where, and how to use appropriately vs hold button and walk forward the whole mission.
Hyperbole aside, you’re glossing over, I’m assuming unintentionally as this has been covered a hundred times, a very important distinction:
the other “CC” stuff have a) limited uses and 2) they don’t turn you int a quasi-turret, they let you continue to do other things like move, dodge/block/parry/thrust/dip, damage (lots more) etc.
When it’s not spammed it’s fine. ← That’s my opinion. That should be clear.
This is true what you say (except that you can move and dodge when you smite).
Yes they have Cooldowns but they are around 30 seconds long (more or less) so i argue that people will still think that Smite will be spammed even if it were given a limitation since it is so easy to see when it’s used.
I get it, Problem is: It’s not engaging and fun when someone is only using Smite continuously the whole match. Which apparently is such a big problem that @Thermaal needs a bigger block-list. And it’s uses should be somewhat limited because now it isn’t.
Can we get that out of the way now?
I do not see people playing like this so i don’t see this as big of a problem, some in this thread seem to believe it is. It might be a regional issue, or I’m not playing the same games-modes or it might just be exaggeration.
Smite should have a single stun interruption on the initial hit, that lasts a second at most, instead of lasting the full channeling duration.
It should hit fewer targets, but do way more damage. The more targets it branches to the more peril it generates.
Mobs already smite-stunned once should get a buff lasting 30 secs reducing the duration of the stun on 2nd and 3rd hits to .5 and .25 seconds. 4th hit should be immune to the stun to prevent infinite kiting.
The enemy buff should synergize with staves and force swords to encourage weapon switching and dynamic play rather than just smite-spam. Hitting smited enemies with warp staves or force weapons should do something that isn’t just a dmg increase, but gives temp health/toughness/movespeed/dodge buffs. Biomancers are typically melee psykers.
After playing Dawn of War again as the Imperial Guard, I really did miss the Sanctioned Psyker Smite that is just a big ball lightning explosion, not whatever Darktide’s lightning tickle is.
You sure about that? It seem dodge is disabled for smykers and they can only move backwards.
I could have used a bigger blocklist ages ago, I may or may not have written a (private) block utility mod; I can neither confirm or deny these rumours.
i smited a bit too when this ability was new and i noticed how effective it was at freezing everything in place. however, i lost confidence in my melee since smite was such an easy panic button, so it’s best to not even start that.
