Perma disable Smite is not healthy for the game, nuking this many Elites at once! I like a lot of the changes to new Psyker, but this level of disable spam may as well turn off the game completely.
From a new player’s perspective just getting into Damnation/Auric, what is the point in doing anything else when Smite can turn off the game completely? People are naturally inclined to choose the path of least resistance, this build will become more prevalent in higher difficulties, and in other Darktide difficulties overall.
Right? I’m inclined to believe they’ll do something about this particular Smite interaction, it’s way too strong to ignore now. This build doesn’t even have Perilous Combustion on, and it deleted that entire group of Maulers with no effort.
What is the difference between this and before the patch? This is pretty much how I’ve always used smite, wait for empowered and use Scrier’s Gaze to melt everything down steadily over 20 seconds if there is too much junk.
Biggest difference is the addition of Immaterial Focus - pretty much always active in this build, so near infinite stun immunity, and 20% Rending from Penetration of the Soul where before it was just 10%. Also the deletion of Operator Modifiers (a good thing) also means Psyker gets more strong damage increase Talents to apply to Smite.
Watch them buff Psyker even more next patch. The whole class isn’t healthy for the game with what it does. Requires practically no aim, has inbuilt accessibility functions and absolutely melts everything with a competent pilot.
Smite should be directional and work with a cone that the psycher has to keep on enemies that they want to smite. As soon as the psycher moves the cone away, enemies are unfrozen.
This way it will be more about clever positioning and target priority
The amazing amount of thought around an ability that has infinte cast, infinite cleave, can’t even kill its user, has little to no travel time, and can easily be combined with soulblaze to delete everything in the game, and be made so that kills reduce peril and therefore increase its uptime. Surely, it takes a top of the top martial artist who understands the very art of “positioning” to figure out how to make use of this skill.
I disagree. To me, Smite and balanced and fun. It’s very situational. Sometimes using it’s even counterproductive. It “stops” a player, preventing it from doing damage or other things. The frustration comes from those who use it badly… but we certainly can’t nerf it for that reason
Smite is nothing more than a quick way for players without real skill to reliably complete runs. Since they can’t do anything on their own, they just have to let other players finish off the enemies that have been turned into punching bags. I can’t possibly understand it, but maybe they genuinely think they’re providing support and find it fun. When on earth will Fatshark finally remove or rework this toxic ability?
I rarely play as psycher but this doesn’t seem like a very fair take.
It is a team game and requires teamwork. Often that support can appear as different roles.
As Arbites or ogryn I often play as the stagger support where I stagger as much as I can so that teammates can finish them off. This is actually essential at high havocs.
There’s no reason to nerf the ability that turns off an entire room of enemies for an entire minute. It is fair and balanced that an ability that operates peril, something you quell from 100 to 0 in less than 5 seconds even in havoc, and can be made easier/meaningless to quell, to turn off an entire room of enemies, regardless of amount or difficulty, for an entire minute.
Well, Havoc and Auric are so drastically different in terms of gameplay that it’s hard to say, but at the very least, most Psykers playing Auric HISTG just get easily taken out by mobs. Maybe that’s just my bias, but I’m sure there are some skilled players among them. Still, gameplay that consists of nothing more than spamming Smite is simply boring and only destroys the challenge of the game, so I can’t feel anything but dislike for it. That’s why I will never play with Smyker again.
Holding down M2 from Scrier’s Gaze activation to Scrier’s Gaze activation immediately upon Warp Unbound ending is not “situational”. Watch Mr. E’s video.
