Something has to be done about smite

Just like the title says smite most definitely needs reworked and im totally whole heartedly sick and tired of what feels like every 3-5 games were all forced to play with someone who only has cc and a bubble. I just got back on darktide after not playing for hours, first IIIVEG I join and we have a bubble perma smite psyker who proceeds to smite and only smite for like 5 minutes straight and I just left the game. Also what is it with these perma smite psykers and smiting everything that moves within the game and why are they smiting bosses? What is wrong with this playerbase? Something has got to give with this dumb boring played out ability that is abused by like 98% of people you see using it that has completely hijacked games at an alarming rate. I really dont have much else to say im just sick and tired of seeing people abuse this ability for 30 minutes straight with absolutely nothing else to offer a team for the entirety of a match. I would really appreciate if we werent completely forbidden from engaging with the ai in our games just because someone wants to play this game at the highest level but never show up in the killfeed and not engage with any mechanic in the game outside of quelling of course.

I understand that alot of people simply dont seem to care to play with psykers who only smite for the entirety of a play session but im sick of playing with them to the point where i really dont care to play this game I cant stand it anymore it is the most brain dead playstyle this game has to offer and its beyond toxic imo. 

People dont have to like what ive said and I really dont care but more people should have a real problem with this ability completely hijacking games because the only thing we can do is leave game and block them and trust me my Block is basically all perma smite psykers to the point where I have to delete people and add more everyday because its just that absurd at this point.

   There are also new perma smite psykers made everyday and you will see this if you make a new character and climb the difficulties or just do anything on any difficulty anyway. Its insane to me that smite has been left as is in terms of just how spammable it is and the new shock grenades being limited to 3, shocking enemies for only 15 seconds, really makes me wish that smite somehow worked in a similiar way or had charges. As it stands its totally toxic for this game and I dont really think its even debatable at this point in the games life cycle.

Can someone who actually plays the tabletop game correct me if I’m wrong here but isn’t smite supposed to be a high damage attack and not a giant crowd control taser?

I think I’ve only encountered this like once or twice ever? I see threads complaining about perma-smiting Psykers once in a while, but almost never see them in person (where they’re usually bad and get bonked from behind a lot so their downtime leaves a lot of space), actually I rarely see Smite psykers at all most of the time.

Honestly my biggest issue with it is the frame rate drop :rofl:

Aye, though its functionality and availability has changed vastly over the editions, it’s never been a crowd control ability. It’s first iterations were something of an armor-save ignoring stormbolter, then it became the ā€œevery psyker has thisā€ ability that would do a couple wounds through any level of toughness/save so was very good en masse against monsters and powerful characters for a couple of editions (including when DT launched), now it’s limited to only Space Marine Librarians and basically gives the Librarian a random shot heavy bolter they can empower to be something of a random-shot Plasma gun.

I only play when I can get at least one other person I know to group with, so limiting randos on the team to 1-2 tends to help I imagine :sweat_smile:

Is the problem you are having with the Smite ability, that it stuns the mobs?

the charged secondary fire for Smite would be a better primary, and allow the secondary to be more of a Biomancer weapon charging/self-empower buff, like a better version of the ā€˜charged heavy attacks’ node.

This has to be just based off where you live or the region you play in because I que east United States and its all I see all the time and as I stated this is something you see in every single difficulty. I had days where all I would play was havoc when arbites came out just because I got sick of smite on the auric board, id go olay one game on the auric board at like 8pm at night boom first game on perma smite psyker. I get home one day 6pm I hop on boom two maelstrom games in a row two different perma smite psykers. Its so bad that anytime people
In the pre game lobby see a psyker with smite and a bubble they just leave the lobby because they know all that player is going to do is smite from the time you see the very first enemies to the end of the mission.

Its really hard for me to believe people when they say this because you either dont play the game or your the luckiest player alive or just flat out lying. My entire block list is perma smite psykers and I have to delete them and add more to it everyday because they are just that prevalent in games its really just that bad. Maelstrom is filled with perma smite psykers perma smiting so that they can immediately go get on their main and start havoc at 16 and its hilarious fatshark didnt see that coming. I mean you could almost say maelstroms been ruined because of it. The odds of you seeing a perma smite psyker in maelstrom is way higher than an auric mission and its simply due to them knowing if they get carried through the maelstrom they get a head start on havoc. I rarely ever touch maelstrom because there are so many bubble smite psykers.

Still strong in clutch situations, but heavily punishes players for wasting it.

It just occurred to me that from a certain point of view, Fatshark gave the Arbitrator a proper Smite with the dog shock blitz.

Yeah and you gotta be a paladin too.
And I don’t think most psykers are paladins.
Terrible charisma scores.
The aren’t persuading themselves out of any issues with local law enforcement.
Game don’t make no sense…

Delete smite from the game.

It does indeed help and you can see it play out on this board quite regulary

People with established group(s) tend to have far less issues with the team aspects of this game, up to a point of near non-existence

The OCE/Asia server clusters seem to be worlds away from what it’s like in NA/EU.

tbh i see a real variety of psyker builds. it’s one of the things i like about the class

They gave the class proper smite with shock mines. 15 seconds of shock limited to 3 on a 60 second cooldown unless you pick up a grenade. Far more balanced than what smite is and the meer existence of them makes smite look even more ridiculous.

Smiters can break the gameplay even in Havoc and hilariously TOP the damage charts at the same time. No idea how Fatshark ended up with their take on Smite. This ability stands against everything Tide gameplay is supposed to be about.

I really don’t like how toxic this convo often turns, but Smite should have never been added to the game in the shape it is atm. It could have been a quick force attack which damages and staggers, knockbacks or knockdowns enemies in a small frontal cone, but not this abomination we have in the game atm.

Limit its CC size, make it generate a lot of peril really quickly, and give it charges / cooldown.

My main problem with Smite is that the name is not indicative of an electric tickle whether it comes from mines or someone’s fingers, I’ve always seen something that is called Smite either something like a paladin light-show smack or a lightning bolt/call lightning effect.
