Like 80% of psykers I see in auric or maelstrom nowadays are abusing smite. Occasionally I see gun psykers but if a psyker is in my game with a staff theyre rarely ever using it because theyre too busy smiting. You can tell me im being hyperbolic all you want but staff psykers are basically non existent in my games but I sure do see a ton of smite psykers.
There isnt a single cc ability in this game that can be spammed anywhere near as much as smite and smite psykers are the only characters you will ever play with that will go an entire match without popping up in the killfeed at all whatsoever. The big difference between a grenade vet and a taunt ogryn is they are killing things all game, theyre actually playing the game. Now compare that to a psyker who is only smiting for 30 minutes straight. When I play grenade vet im killing things the entire game and min maxing grenades and using my ranged/melee weapons, whereas smite psykers only smite, thats it. They have no boss dps, no ranged dps, no melee kills, nothing. They only provide cc and most of them dont even play with venting shriek so they also lack horde clear and they dont have boss dps either. Lets not confuse smite psykers who do nothing all game to anyone doing anything else actually playing the game and engaging with enemies. Go ahead and name me all the builds in the game where all you do is cc, never kill anything, and with that never pop up in the killfeed. Go ahead I’ll wait. Please do tell me about all the different builds that contribute as little to a game as a psyker spamming smite all game.
The purpose of the skill isn’t to do large amounts of damage it is to enable others to do damage, but to deal chip damage to specialists and elites. (it still does do damage)
For example, if you play a Veteran with range focus on weak-spots, it’s really easy to line up a shot when a Psyker uses Smite.
Your claims make me want to download a score-screen add-on and test this out.
Since you play so many games with these players can you provide some actual data? Because it sounds like you have a score-screen add-on, otherwise this is just anecdotal.
I don’t really think there exists a build where you do no impact damage-wise in the the game even with Smite.
There are builds and ways to play to focus on CC i can suggest that a Ogryn build with Loyal Protector and Attention Seeker could CC at least as much as a so-called “Smyker”.
I wasn’t bringing up the examples of other abilities to say that they worked exactly like Smite, it was to show that there are builds and abilities which provide a lot of CC without particularly long cooldowns.
I don’t experience a super high incidence of smykers but they reliably do the least damage in the game and make the game take forever. This was a 37 minute Chasm Logistrum match. Highlighted is the Smyker. I was playing Psyker with Deimos/Inferno/Vent.
This is another one, I was playing Doom Guy Vet and had someone quit like 1/2 thru.
You know, the Rumbler fire-explosion build on Ogryn gets quite irritating too. Similar to Smykers, they like to spam it as long as they have ammo for it, and they control half the battlefield because of the crazy explosion radius + the occasional double shot + the fire stacks they apply just deletes trash. As a bonus to the blinding smoke, everybody gets to enjoy a full screen stutter every 2 seconds ‘cause the engine can’t handle it
I mean, I get how it’s useful in Havoc, but why whip this out in normal Aurics ? It would be a snooze fest, if not for all the specials.
Psykers do need more meaningful ways to contribute in Monstrosity engagements. If say, Smite applied VoC stagger to Monstrosities and debuffed Monstrosities with Empowered Psionics, they’d be much more helpful in those types of engagements.
Clutching would become easier as Psykers could use this new Smite to get that few seconds needed for revive, melee could become safer and more effective… if only.

that’s exactly what i can’t stand about it, that blinding smoke everywhere so i flail blindly. and the stuttering, that one is weird because my frame rate stays high enough, but the game still stutters.
The difference between smite psykers and every other characters cc or a trauma staff or an inferno staffs left trigger or any other cc in this game is that the person doing those things is almost always engaging with enemies and killing things and you just conveniently leave that part out. You wanna know the difference between a cc perma smite psyker and everyone else with cc? Perma smite psykers dont kill jack all game. perma smite psykers are not useful in a lobby with 3 competent players. Every single team a perma smite psyker plays with has to make up for that psykers extreme lack of dps for the entirety of the mission and you just conveniently leave that part out. A veteran thats tossing a grenade every 60 seconds to cc enemies is staggering enemies while bleeding everything on the screen throwing sometimes like 50 60 grenades a game. The ogryn that can stagger enemies with its pickaxe is killing those same enemies. The arbites thats throwing a grenade every 60 seconds is killing enemies. Whats the perma smite psyker bring to a game? Only cc, thats it. Perma smite psykers are the only characters playing this game who are afforded the luxury of only having cc in a game and people within this community like you will sit around and defend it. Perma smite psykers are also emboldened to keep playing that way once they beat a hi shock mission not realizing they contributed jack to said lobby doing less damage than everyone else and not helping in regards to kills or boss dps or horde clear or anything anyone else playing the game is contributing to. If that same psyker was playing any other character doing anything else they would be dead all game because they suck at the game and have no business being in auric lobbies and the only reason they can exist within those lobbies is because they have infinite cc all game but they dont have ant damage at all whatsoever and not once do they ever pop up in the killfeed and youre actually trying to tell me they are useful in games when thats simply not true. A psyker crutching on smite who relies on everyone around them to do everything for them every game they are in is only supporting themselves and their inability to engage with a single mechanic within the game.the fact that youre misconflating the only character within the game who can spam a blitz and omly use that blitz for 30 minutes straight to every other cc in the game is actually hilarious. We would rather play with bots than play with perma smite psykers because bots kill things and bots will revive you, two things you will never ever get from a perma smite psykers. Perma smite psykers are the most selfish players within the game and they are only supporting themselves because in a competent team they are worthless but in a team with 3 noobs and a perma smite psykers they are even more useless because none of the 3 noobs theyre playing with can make up for the 25% dps loss they have all game and then they get over run by armor and lose. I had a game just the other day with a 4 wound psyker who did nothing but smite 80% of a game and then they disconnected. The bot we had on our team was more useful than that smite psyker was because competent players would rather you kill something than only cc for an entire game. You are worthless in this game at high levels if all you bring to a game is cc and nothing else. The only thing perma smite psykers are supporting is their lack of skill, thats it. Please dont conflate a grenade vet like me throwing 50 shredder grenades in a game providing constant cc and damage to a psyker who can only cc enemies while standing against a wall watching their team kill everything all game because they are two completely different things. Perma smite psykers have no boss dps, they have no horde clear, they output no melee damage, they have no range dps, and they cant help you clutch and they also wont revive you and they also provide little to no dps when you get over run by armor. they are literally worthless in a lobby and yet here you are somehow trying to argue theyre faux support build is useful when that couldnt be further from the truth. You wanna know whats useful? Me bleeding everything on our screen with boosted frag nades and lighting up the killfeed. When we get over run by armor and i wipe the screen with boosted shredders and get us through that engagement guess who wasnt useful and what I didnt need? A smite psyker holding those enemies in place while I killed them all its absolutely meaningless in the grand scheme of things it makes zero difference in the long run. You could probably even argue that perma smite psykers are the least useful and the least supportive players in this entire game that you will ever see outside of maybe someone spamming smite in a havoc lobby with venting shriek but even then your talking about someone who understands why smite is even useful there who actually knows how to play the game. Just remember perma smite psykers are the only character in the entire game playing a build where all you have to do the entire game is spam your ability and quell and hit med stations, noone else can do that. Id also appreciate if you would stop talking about perma smite psykers as if theyre competent players because the 4 wound idiots in my games who spam smite all game just so they can get auric money and resources who die everytime they get surrounded by anything are not competent players at all whatsoever. Also I dont play with any competent perma smite psykers theyre all like malice players abusing smite so they can complete auric penances or so they can beat a maelstrom and start havoc later. I also know this to be true because 98% of perma smite psykers I see play with bubble because they dont know how to engage with gunners or shooters. There are no venting shriek smite psykers trying to maximize dps while Playing with smite those players literally dont exist in my auric lobbies.
You’re repeating the same points you’ve already made, just with more text. I feel you’ve created an archetype of “Smite Psykers” that doesn’t really match reality, and as long as the discussion is based on that, it’s impossible to reach any consensus. I’ll leave it at that.
