Solving Hive Scum tree

Scum is now taking shape into what they’re supposed to be

The tree however allows a few remaining issues that could easily be solved, which are:

  1. Swap Gunslinger and Ruffian Auras

Gunslinger is supposed to be the “generalist” aura, with slight team support and so, it should be placed in the middle

  1. Long Lasting / Blessed Stimms change and addition

Reduce Duration of Long Lasting to 3s. Long Lasting should also reduce the cooldown of the stimm by 3s, since people AVOID this perk just to not suffer through that. And the worst part is, current Desperado is FORCED to take it, which makes things worse for everyone

Reduce the amount of Corruption cleansed from Blessed Stimms to 25%

Now, combine Long Lasting with Blessed Stimms, so they both are 1 perk. This perk will be placed on the left side, as indicated by the picture

Lastly and most importantly, make this perk affect Stimm Supply (as in, affected teammates will have the duration of the stimm extended, and will clear up to 25% corruption on kills

  1. Move Pickpocket

Simple, move it here. I can already see people saying “but that will make Long Lasting a tax node!”, dw, the next 2 changes will make it make sense

  1. Swap the Combat Abilities around

Re-adapting the Combat Abilities to match the talent changes above, as well as the Aura change

  1. Create another either/or option on the tree

So essentially, the user will only be able to pick one of the two nodes:

  • Pickpocket
  • Long Lasting + Blessed Stimms hybrid node

What does this achieve?

  • It prevents Rampage from getting Pickpocket
  • It allows Stimm Crate to choose either better support (By giving teammates stimms for longer and better corruption clearing) or more toxins (pickpocket for needle pistol)
  • Desperado is no longer forced to pick Long Lasting
  1. Swap the bottom tree in the exact same way the Combat Abilities were moved around

Just for consistency of course, due to the combat abilities being moved

Overall, these changes should allow Hivescum to be less problematic when combining extremely good talents (Pickpocket) with extremely good combat abilities (Rampage), as well as placing other limits to allow Fatshark to tune the talents without having to worry about “but what if this combination…” again

These are interesting changes – kinda reminds me of the Zealot tree with Chorus central.

I guess I’m still holding out hope that Pickpocket is changed again, because this proposed layout lessens the tax nodes to pick it up. So it becomes central to Hive Scum rather than central to one of HS trees (Gunslinger).

I like the idea that Rampage leans more into melee so logically would make less sense to grab Pickpocket.

I feel these two talents lack synergy, so making them an either/or option feels weird.

Also, Box can enhance melee as well—it provides better attack speed and strength bonuses with better uptime. The combination with Hyperviolence and Hyper-critical still works for melee builds plus Pickpocket.

I suggest making Pickpocket a branch of ranged abilities or keystones, while turning Hyperviolence and Hyper-critical into melee branches, completely separating them

The main reason why I’m doing this, is because I don’t want Rampage to have access to Pickpocket

Yeah which is why you’re allowed to pick either one or the other, for box I think that lasting stimms + blessed stimms + the buff to both also applying to teammates if given through stimm supply would be an interesting option

The thing is, Hypercritical is not an issue, it’s actually a decent talent that doesn’t generate any problems on any combat ability (all combat abilities could pick it and it wouldn’t become problematic)

Hyper violence on the other hand, only becomes an issue with Rampage, so I don’t see why it would need to be locked only for rampage since the other 2 don’t generate an issue with it

The main thing all of these tree changes is trying to accomplish, is mainly to lock Rampage from using Pickpocket (no more perma needle cringe while being a god in melee), as well as allowing pickpocket for both Stimm Supply and Desperado

These changes also allow Desperado to gain 1 extra node point (not needing to pick Last Longing), because I believe Desperado needs a little buff in itself, as well as now getting the option to pick crit aura if you want without any further tax nodes

You definitely getting it next update, in the new paid DLC class of course!

Honestly, I think the class is in a much worse state, design-wise, than it was at launch. It lost identity with the poorly thought out changes to Pickpocket, and buffed the class to be a generic speedy melee class, which we’ve seen a lot in ‘tide games.

It was better when it was the class that pew-pews all over the place or is a crazed junkie with discernible highs and lows due to the debuffs after Rampage . . . while still being able to abuse the busted Needle Gun.

No, man, this class is in a bad spot, design-wise.

No, good design is when every class is melee zoom zoom. Except ogryn, ogryn is slow clown of the team that no one plays.

This would be the best solution to the problem, because it would force you to choose ranged as a playstyle if you want to abuse Needle Gun. The changes OP are proposing would still allow Chem Box Scum to use the weapon infinitely as well. Infinite ammo IS incredibly strong, but right now the talent is in a place where it’s not functioning well on gun scum, but OP on every other scum.

I feel it is made just to accommodate personal feelings.
I was not taking pickpocket before… I don’t know what the OP has with pickpocket, but I said it before…
Pickpocket was not the problem. So you nuked a gameplay and still have the problem. Nice, well done.
Continue to destroy the class… you’re on the right path.

I am tired of these threads that just want to ruin the classes. Zealot was ruined… now Scums.

Genuinely why? I think if you want infinite needle spam you should at least have to commit to a combat ability (desperado), or keystone (vultures) that is otherwise suboptimal for needle pistol. That seems like the only way to balance it reasonably to me.

Getting to play full support but also getting 1 billion free ranged damage seems deeply problematic to me.

Try cleaver with bullrush and get stuck in, big man goes turbo! Really usefull in expeditions with randoms I’ve found.

Would mean another forced stimm talent for rampage scum, desperado would stay a dead pick and needle spammers would just use box if they aren’t already.

The tree is scuffed enough as is, just make pickpocket an offshoot of desperado or vultures and make it work with ranged again if inferno psyker isn’t getting nerfed so the non-needle guns have a reason to be played.

Please elaborate on how the gameplay was “nuked”

It’s still perfectly viable

Pickpocket was a problem before on it’s own, now it’s only an issue with needle
