So tired of the poor network performance of this game

About 4/5 games I end up in have what appears to be an invisible ~400ms latency built into them. I have a mod that shows ping, but it always just shows some value in the 39-60ms range and appears to have literally zero correlation with how the game feels to play.

Lately it has been worse than ever. Enemies teleport when I “hit” them, in that an attack is displayed as if it connects, only for that hit to appear to force some sort of update from the server so the correct enemy location is displayed at the moment of weapon impact, so in fact I was hitting into thin air I suddenly learn, and then I die a moment later as the gunner/reaper I thought I was about to kill was three meters left of me gunning me down instead. It has become unplayable in most games.

The one unique benefit of this is I can literally count on charging muties being closer than they appear, so when one comes charging at me I can usually melee hit it at 2-3 times the normal melee weapon distance. Because even though it appears far away, it’s actually pretty much on top of me. I’ve some times killed a mutie with a melee hit after it appeared to grab me. Ridiculous.

What’s amazing is how incredibly different this game can be from one Havoc 40 match to the next. Some times it feels like LAN play with zero latency, attacks hit stuff because enemies are where they are displayed, I never get hit because in fact I know how to avoid attacks, etc. etc.

Other games feel like I have syncronized to a group of players from forking Australia. What the hell is going on that makes this game so incredibly inconsistent in it’s apparent networking performance? It’s ruining my desire to play the game as it affects such a large portion of games lately it’s become unplayable most of the time. As in roughly 1 in 5 games is playable with the rest being a massive pain in the butt.

Do something, fatshark.

a network routing service (not sure what the correct definition is) like NoPing could help. it won’t reduce your ping to below what your connection is capable of but it will mostly fix lag spikes

So I had a similar experience to this recently and do you know what worked WONDERS?

Completely cleaning my Nvidia graphics shader cache (the proper way that requires multiple reboot etc) and then I switched the cache to unlimited in the nvidia control panel once done.

My game no longer stutters or rubberbands anywhere near the level it used to. It feels like a totally different game.

Worth a go IMO!!

If this fixes it for you, like it did for me, then really FS should be pinning a post about how everyone should do this.

It is crazy how better my performance is after cleaning shader cache. It felt like network issues the entire time but it seems it wasn’t the cause for me.
