see, ogryn is the class that has me in quake 3 / tournament mode again for it translates every muscle memory to a “t” and the point where it just “flows naturally”
gonna make a requested branx video soon and truth be told, people asking about “frame skipping” i’m not even conciously aware i’m doing it.
weird to explain but it just “feels” like being in there.
this as a background i’m much more of a help / proficient / carry maelstroms etc with the “build” i picked cause for ingame translation its quake right out of the box.
even “ult” is embedded in a motion process and not a disconnected “i try this then and see if it works”
same with branx and kickback synergising with pushing heavy hits in between the “downtime” of the other…
so all im saying is i’m my best if i do things my way and not delude my playstyle to compensate for others.
then again book and bubble being THE thing right now, how many boosts do they need at the cost of mates contributing to the offense?
1 month ago no one cared if there even was a zealot or psyker at the team, much less what talents they used
Right off the top of my head you guys ran heavy on dueling swords, and on eof the biggest and most helpful things I felt like we had in dealing with captains was how helpful chain sword felt for popping his shield. You guys had raw murder power with that many dueling swords, where we relied a lot on the crowd control provided by slab shield.
My friend and I did pick up groups until 33~. Where we stalled out due to some unfortunate modifiers. Played with my brother yesterday so we had 3 in our premade, and we had a very kind Ogryn that was havoc 40 join our group for one run, we hit 34, then the Ogryn offered to take us on his assignment and we were able to clear 40.
Honestly I didn’t feel much difference from 31 to 40. It all feels the same as a psyker hiding in bubble and using the infernus staff. In fact the 33 mission we had in the smelter complex was far far more difficult than the 40 mission in the carnival mostly due to the end event.
It’s not a super enjoyable mode for me, mainly because I have to be a meta slave to be successful. No scriers gaze gun psyker build. No fun just purg shield purg shield purg shield. Long missions and somewhat draining. I appreciated the challenge but now that i’ve hit 40, the only thing left is to get true survivor (we were so close on that 40 run too) and some of the other penances that come over time.
After i get that true survivor penance I can’t see myself playing havoc for fun very much. Tox gas (bombers) with no increase in med stims on the map seems like an overly punishing modifier. I may just not be a skilled enough player to enjoy that level of play though.
You’re def right about the dueling sword power output… I wasn’t running any mods but I suspect the dueling sword / flame staff guys probably did 2x my damage. The dueling swords piled on enough damage to pop captain shields pretty quickly (altho maybe not so quick as a chain sword)
I think shield ogryn is underrated for high level havocs honestly. The few times I’ve been grouped with one I was very impressed with the damage output and durability.
Mine was the same grind between 16-40 with Brad ^ after we did that Maelstorm to get invited for Havoc as the requirement. I was Chorus Zealot, he was Ogryn & we also had a Psyker bubble guy, plus 1 plasma VoC Vet. Pretty much the perfect combo all classes together on this one. We eventually got True Survivor on 39, I believe. Like some guys in this post we weren’t even trying for it at all it just kind of happened as well. It actually was fun doing it together and talking our way through it all. The communication made things very easy also watching each other’s backs at all time sticking very close. Some maps like Gloriana, Dark Communion and Vigil Station were pretty brutal. We failed maybe 3 times out of all of it which wasn’t too bad at all. We all are experienced at the game with thousands of hours, so it wasn’t shocking we did well. All-in-all, I think Havoc is fun with friends. They still should fix aspects to it of course… But yeah, I changed my mind slightly on it. A good release in my view even if it is artificial difficulty. I feel that it’s just a fad and it will probably be a dead game mode soon like the Twins Hard Mode until the next big thing. Next year, we’re getting new maps, weapons, etc which I’m excited for honestly. The real thing I’m hoping is that they fix Ogryn up because man, he needs love.
I think they just need to tune down gunner damage a bit, tune up melee damage a bit, and nerf gold toughness – probably gold toughness should just be scaled down the same way regular toughness is.
Edit: also psyker shield durability should be downscaled like toughness is.
Sure, but I really don’t trust Fatshark to do any of these things even remotely correctly. So, I would only disagree because they get almost nothing right as it is, it’s their entire lore now. When they start “nerfing” anything it gets downgraded to a point of no return and they almost never come back to fix their mistakes, so you open up the flood gates of hell. The original state of FNP for example was perfect in my view where he was actually tanky, but they fk’ed that up beyond recognition and it’s unusable now the only good build is Heavy Hitter and even that is iffy sometimes. I wouldn’t have them touch anything like this. That was really the only thing Oggy had that was great. Now, all the other classes are over-powered with him having next to nothing with a new nerf each and every update almost. I would disagree just solely on their history of fk-ups. I think that some OP things in the game are okay by me personally it’s just apart of it. I wouldn’t want to nerf so many things at once knowing how they are. I feel people want a bunch of things nerfed right now and putting too many Fatsharks in the cookie jar will eat all the goodies if you know what I mean… They’re super irresponsible Devs that cannot be trusted. I can’t put my trust in somebody with this kind of track record. Although, I see what you’re on about.
Hmm… That’s actually a fair point, Oggy. They really do screw up a lot at these kinds of things. I wouldn’t trust them as well. Most people now from what I’ve seen don’t even want to play Ogryn anymore just because of that which is sad. He’s in the lowest state he’s in at this moment & they’ll probably do nothing for awhile to rework his tree or skills. Fatshark: “Let’s just nerf Ogryn again & give everybody else overpowered abilities & weapons.” It’s almost super criminal in my mind. Ogryn should have something that competes with other classes in his own right. Sure, the pickaxe is actually pretty damn strong it’s his strongest weapon thus far, but that’s all he has it’s pure B.S. This is going a bit off topic, I apologize.
It’s wild, it’s gotten to a point where even actual play testers are making videos about how they should fix Ogryn & some of them don’t even play Oggy that much either. lol
The biggest crutches were a Psyker who knew how and when to place the bubble offensively, a flamer to torch hardened stacks of Elites, at least one Chorus for downed people, objectives, and to take the heat out of a situation for 5 seconds. A hammer is honestly a boon too. Most of the time Monsters are quite manageable, but if you get a slug in a bad spot, the road gets rough.
For Vet I can recommend forgetting about anything but any Laz you favor, I like the Heavy Laz Pistol MkX, plus Infernus on the Hardened modifier, and whatever you like on anything else. Smokes are useful on maps that make you do hacks out in the open, but they are still rather unreliable.
The only complaints I have about Havoc have to do with the Party Finder and how only the host immediately levels up. Most of the Havoc levels are nowhere near hard enough to warrant being forced into building a group yourself. The host being the only one who levels up becomes a massive kick in the backside the second you are online, but your usual host is not. You either accept having to start with your probably much lower rank, or try fish for the higher one, which will not work 99/100 times.
End events play a large part in why I enjoy Havoc. Usually easy ones, like Logistrarum, the map that makes you gather five cartridges from two trains, is an absolute madhouse.
Wait, did they buff the Power Maul or something recently that I don’t know about? Or is he just using that as a meme? lol. He’s got balls playing with it in Havoc.
As for my journey. I’ve gotten from Havoc 10 to 11, jumped to 16 working up to 32 and after week 1 then jumped to 38 and jumped to 40 from a friend’s havoc rank.
Havoc’s kinda cool but it’s far too restrictive, it straight up invalidates a number of builds and I hate that.
Got a video of our first Havoc 40 run where we also got true survivor at the same time
It’s an alright weapon with Skullcrusher and that double explode blessing on it, because it’ll put 80% increased damage taken on every enemy affected by the explosions. It’s really only something that has high value on Havoc, cause stuff isn’t dense enough anywhere else for that to ever really matter. It’s a 100% support pick and you’ll want shredder nades and flamethrowers to capitalize.
(This build was nerfed just in time for Havoc by moving the explosion range node out of range of charge)
Just realized he doesn’t have skullcrusher in the video… oh well, missing out on giving everyone 80% damage!!
Hmm. Interesting… I’ll have to try it out & give it another testing just to see out of curiosity sake. I always thought it was poo-poo when I used it & I put it directly into the dust bin. Damage usually sucks & doesn’t hit too hard at all & is pretty slow. The only thing I suppose is stagger with power hit is alright, but this was a while ago from my playing like years literally. Although, 80% seems decent enough when you can take advantage of it, I suppose. I just don’t really see it as good as other weapons still even from that vantage point. But you know, everybody wants to do different things nowadays. I just think other weapons offer higher DPS & more value of course. I did find the video amusing at the very least.
